Description
Maybe you earned it with a long hike or maybe it was just a long week at work: Either way, there’s no arguing with the appeal of an evening spent with friends or family around the fire. This book lets you choose your own adventure when it comes to sips, sweets, and communal cooks. Author Emily Vikre shares dozens of all-new recipes as well as a few greatest hits and remixes from Camp Cocktails and The Family Camp Cookbook, so you’re sure to find just what you want for your next trip:
- The Happiest Hour: You’ve finished unpacking and it’s time to set out some snacks and drinks for the group. Choose from hot dates, skillet spiced nuts, Norwegian stick bread with dips, campfire queso, “baked” Brie, and grilled nachos, and pair them with drinks like a fireside old fashioned, tinto de verano, amaro spritz, or junglebird punch.
- Campfire Shareables: Make an epic, interactive meal with choose-your-own-adventure food on sticks—from hot dogs to kebabs. Or break out a pie iron and make fireside chimichangas, potpies, pizza pockets, or grilled cheese.
- After-Dinner Treats and Cozy Drinks: S’mores, bananas foster, campfire monkey bread, or foil pack pears...how do you choose? Or if you’re in the mood for a warm drink, try a peppermint schnapps hot chocolate, boozy (or not) hot cider, or a chamomile tea toddy.
- Leisurely Mornings: Rise and shine and pair that camp coffee or French press dirty chai with skillet biscuits and scrambled eggs, brown sugar-chili glazed bacon, eggs in spiced tomato sauce, fluffy peach-filled pancakes, or easy breakfast quesadillas.
From sweet to savory and from spiked to sober, you’re sure to find the perfect pairing for your next fireside gathering.

This book is so cozy! It’s filled with a lot of comforting, beautiful, simple recipes to cook on a grill or fire (As well as several drink recipes). You don’t have to limit these recipes to camping adventures only! They look great for everyday use.
I would argue that a lot of these recipes do call for prep either before you leave for the camp or while there (chopping scallions on a campsite means bringing a knife and cutting board).
I would make a lot of these recipes in the summer and fall for casual dinner parties.
This is a wonderful cookbook that has recipes that will elevate any fire pit gathering. The spiked drinks and sweet treats make me want to get outside and enjoy the chilly weather by the fire. I like the simplicity of the foil wrapped pears and the roasted dates, not to mention the drinks look great!
I enjoyed this book and it's fun out of the boxes recipes for being out camping or even your home fire ring. Meals, treats, and drinks (both virgin and alcoholic) are chronicled with gorgeous pictures to help you see what the result would be. I would suggest this book to all my friends that amp.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my gifted copy.
I am hosting a party at my house and will be having a bonfire, and this book just called out to me. The cover is so pretty and that is the first drink I am going to make. I'm excited about all of these, they all look so yummy!!!
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook.
This is such a great little book on how to cook and make drinks around the campfire. Whether you are camping or in your backyard this is pretty fancy looking campfire food and drinks recipe book. The food is basic but it all looks amazing. Easy to follow directions and also it is full of information on how to cook and how to pack for the best campfire eating and drinking experience!
This is such a fun cookbook. It definitely makes me want to pickup and go camping! I can’t wait to make the Norwegian stick bread. I loved the photos and descriptions to go with each recipe. I really enjoyed the vibe of this book. Lots of these recipes look like they would be perfect to make at home too. Looking forward to gifting this book to camp loving sister!
I’m definitely not outdoorsy in a go camping way BUT all these recipes can totally be adapted to make around a fire pit in your backyard! And they are so fun and delicious! Super easy too. Also the author even gives tips on packing it if you are a weirdo that likes camping with bugs and icky things.
This has been my favorite cookbook find this year! I love camping with my husband but have always wanted to do more than just burgers and hotdogs (it’s the foodie in me). This book is absolutely perfect. It will make our next camping trips more of an experience!
Love the pictures! Will be buying a physical copy, for sure!
I thought this would be mainly cocktails but there are so many non alcoholic drinks and snacks. I’m vegan but all of these recipes are easily adaptable. The photos are really beautiful! I’m most excited to make the hot dates and pair them with a salted hot chocolate.
Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Harvard Common Press and Netgalley for this copy in exchange for my review.
So I snagged this on a whim because I was going camping and wanted some ideas of some fireside treats and I was really impressed with the wide range of things in this book. From snacks and desserts to cocktails and dinner. The recipes were extremely straight forward and you don't need a lot of stuff, some of it you could even make before hand and transport in, like the dry goods for the crepes and cake to help save on time and space. I also really liked the tips scattered throughout the book, like how to safely transport spirits or packing a cooler.
Overall a quick read with some really great recipes. A definite pick up if you're doing an overnight or something.
This was such an aesthetically pleasing and cozy camping cookbook! As an avid camper and bonfire lover, this is a perfect hosting tool! Full of easy recipes to cook on the fire or grill, as well as delicious cocktails recipes to pair. Along with recipes, this book also offers many helpful camping or travel tips such as how to pack a cooler, best tools for packing spirits, and camping friendly barware. A must-have for camping and outdoor cooking enthusiasts.
Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group, for the opportunity to read and review this delightful cookbook.

This cookbook is amazing, whether it is the pictures, the anecdotes that go with the recipes or the recipes (not that I had time to test them yet but I will definitey next time I go camping).
As mentionned the pictures are gorgeous and really add some personnality to the book and so does the little anecdotes with each recipes that make it more authentic.
As for the recipes, they are mouth-watering, I am particularly excited at the idea of trying some of the drinks , they look absolutely delicious and so cosy. Also, what I loved is that for every recipe you have the instructions to do it 'at home' or 'on the fire' which make it a great book for anyone.
'New Camp Cookbook Fireside Warmers' is a really nice cookbook with personnality and authenticity that everyone will want whether they are outdoorsy or not !
This was one of the cutest most practical camping cookbooks I have seen. I defintely, badly want this physical book!!! I also want to get a copy for my daughter. It had recipes that were both comforting and actually attainable to make. I loved the photos. It felt so festive and cozy. My daughter loves camping and I enjoy hiking so this was right up our alley.
A cookbook for people who enjoy the outdoors and love life! There's plenty of camping cookbooks out there, but this one should quickly rise to the top of the heap. It's clear that author Emily Vikre gets out of the house as often as possible. Her personality and enthusiasm is woven through her recipes and advice. I even caught a few side-references to 'you had to be there' crazy memories from her past.
But it's not a rambling memoir, she's got her priorities in order, too. The books starts off early with all sorts of playful variations on the classic camp treat, s'mores. I think my favorite recipe is for Norwegian stick bread. I'm a bread maker and always looking for new twists (see what I did there) on a favorite comfort food. What a clever way to bond and tell stories around a fire, brandishing sticks full of food.
All these tasty temptations are going to need to be washed down, of course, and there's plenty of drink options for that. Lots of them are boozy and creative, like the chamomile tea toddy. Emily makes no apologies for enjoying an adult beverage, and I like that. I've seen too much apologetic, toe-scuffing the ground timidness when it comes to presenting a delicious spiked drink, but you'll find none of that attitude here.
Oh! I must mention the food photography. It's amazing. The photos are beautiful AND match the recipes closely. For the first time in a long time, I feel like a cookbooks photos were either taken by the author, or she had a close involvement with the process.
If you don't get far from home often, all these recipes would jazz up an evening on the patio near a fire pit, too. Invite over a few neighbors and make some memories. My thanks to author Emily Vikre, Quarto Publishing Group, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital advance review copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I didn't realize when I requested it, that this was a book for campfire cooking--I just thought it was cozy winter recipes. But, I think a lot of the recipes would work really well as cozy winter recipes, and it you are actually looking for a book of refined campfire cooking, this is exactly what you'd want. Lovely pics and clear recipes! Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
Fantastic recipes! Absolutely love this book, it has cocktails which are unique and classics, easy to follow recipes with ingredients that are realistic for most peoples pantries.
Enjoyable assortment of food and drinks to enjoy around the campfire or just a gas fire pit at home. The Marshmallow Mule looks enticing with a marshmallow ginger syrup. There’s campfire baked brie which could be made stovetop with your cast iron skillet. Lots of goodies in this book. One thing I liked was the index which included ingredients. I have milk leftover – is there anything I can do with it? I would recommend this book. It would be a great gift.
