Advance Praise

Kirkus Reviews (Verdict: "Get It") (January 2024): A gorgeously rendered affirmation fueled by powerful metaphors to bolster self-love. (...) Cino's scientific description of the sun sets a tone for the concept of inner value to be treated as fact, bolstering the messages of self-acceptance and appreciation with an aura of authority. But the text also has a comforting cadence, couched in poetic descriptions with vocabulary-stretching words well placed for easy understanding. (...) The bright colors are captivating, and lap readers will pore over the book's pages.

The Lights That Stay by Cortney Cino is a beautifully illustrated, powerful and uplifting story about the existence of each and every child's inner light. It is a reminder to everyone that, like the sun, the light that burns bright inside of us all cannot be dimmed. This will be a lovely bedtime book that will leave children dreaming of ways that they can shine even bigger and brighter with the dawn of a new day. Recommended.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Whimspire Books for an ARC.

This book! So sweet and beautifully written. Reading it with my youngest was a treat, and a great moment to talk about how sharing your inner light with others can uplift yourself immensely. I appreciate the thought behind the writing, but also how wonderfully illustrated it is. If I were a children's librarian, this would be a go-to recommendation. For now though, it is a go-to birthday gift to all of the younger kids in our circle. Thank you for the advanced copy!
