My 5 year old loves to help in the kitchen! These recipes are perfect - not complicated and kids can do with assistance! I can’t wait to try these out. The illustrations are spot on and I love the information and little quizzes sprinkled through out. A book your child can take and look through to not just pick out recipes but learn about cooking, baking, etc. I would definitely buy this book as a hardcover to keep with our cookbooks!

This is a great book with pretty simple recipes to get kids involved in the kitchen.
I like the guides at the beginning and the steps to follow in each recipe that are easy for kids to follow.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley.com, Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point, and of course the author Rossini Perez for allowing access to this ARC for me to review!

Kids in the Kitchen will be coming to a library or bookstore near you on April 2, 2024!

This book is such a cute little cookbook! I absolutely love the introduction section where she goes over all the kitchen basics, kitchen terminology, kitchen safety, how to prep certain foods and even sanitation! (as a ServSafe certified person, thank you for this!) The recipes are cute, but kind of expected fair, with a few surprises that I didn't expect (like the lemon spinach ravioli or the spinach grilled cheese!) I also loved the little facts and history about various foods sprinkled throughout the book1

I would say that this book is for older kids, my girls are 8 and though they can read, it was harder to keep their attention with the large blocks of small text. I think this would be perfect for ages 10 and up :)

If you are looking for a cookbook that will help teach your 10 and up children the basics of cooking with some cute and simple recipes to get them interested in cooking, then Kids in the Kitchen will be perfect for you!

One of the best cookbooks for kids that I've read! From cooking terms, to kitchen tools, this book has all the basics to get kids cooking. The appealing recipes are sure to lure in even the most reluctant chef.

I kept this book to go through until I had my niece as it is typically aimed at children but I think I loved it just as much as her. She said it was “awesome and super cool” and I’d have to agree. It has everything you’d need in a children’s recipe book;
* bright and colourful pages.
* easy to follow & healthy recipes.
* informative - there are a lot of fun facts throughout the book relating to the recipes.
* interactive quizzes
I especially loved that the ingredients are listed in metric and imperial measurements.

I would definitely recommend this book to anybody with children who have an interest in the kitchen!

Not exactly a kid and I don't have any kids but I really enjoyed these recipes. This book does what it intends to do: help kids make fun, simple. easy-to-follow recipes. This is because, well, kids are kids and they will have a hard time following the "adult" cooking books. so "Kids in the Kitchen" really does well making sure that kids can learn, have fun cooking, and stay safe.
Anyhow, now that I'm done writing this review, a snack looks good, looks like I'll be making one! ;)

This is such a FUN cookbook! I'm looking to add more cookbooks to our high school library and I'm particularly looking for ones that will appeal to teenagers. This one has incredible pictures that are really engaging and show what the recipes should look like. This has so many FUN recipes from smoothies to cakes to banana sushi, to confetti waffles. I'm excited to add this cookbook to our high school library!

This is a GREAT resource for anyone currently frustrated by their kids obsession with beige foods! It features sections such as 'Working with younger children', picky eating and 'healthy eating' (I was interested in how the author would pitch this given that it is an area that seems fraught with controversy in current times), I found this was covered in a fairly traditional way that will resonate with most readers but may alienate a few. While on the topic of healthy eating, I was pleased by the balanced range of recipes that appear, such as the drool worthy 'whipped chocolate milk' which appears opposite the 'kiwi delish smoothie', with equal value placed on each recipe. While on the drinks section 'smoothies and fresh juices', I will say that I have made, and LOVED the matcha latte! This will now regularly feature on my daily menu!

Other sections in this book include breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert snacks, all of which are beautifully presented with fun illustrations and nice graphics, overall giving a beautifully professional finish to this lovely child friendly cookery book. A hearty introduction covers all the basics and more, ensuring our kids have culinary education in addition to a delectable culinary experience!

Massive thanks to the author for providing measurements in both cups and grams, surely widening the appeal of this book to readers on both sides of the pond, this is often overlooked but instantly widens the appeal of the book

This is a great resource that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange to an advance copy..

I have a monthly kids cooking program and this is perfect. I want it for myself. I love the layout and the introduction explaining how to do things like prep your kitchen, how to season food etc. I'm definitely going to use some of these recipes with the kids. Very cool book.

This book is amazing if you're looking for something to get your children into cooking. My son has autism, and he loves to cook but we have struggles finding recipes. This book takes all of the guessing out of it. From how to prepare certain foods, knife safety and so much more. The recipes are easy to follow and delicious. Some of the ones we loved were Sausage Bagel Casserole, Crunchy Beef Quesadillas and Steak and Broccoli.

This is an excellent cook ooo for those who are wanting to start cooking with their kids and teens. Everything about the book has been designed thoughtfully and with children and teenagers in mind, the layout, the recipes being divided into meal times, the how to guides at the beginning all make this an engaging read, would highly recommend

What a great book! Plenty of bold graphics and colorful photography, and the recipes are simple to follow and perfect for all the children in our kitchens. There's also a great introduction with lots of kitchen safety tips. I'll be sure to look for a finished copy when it hit shelves.

Special thanks to Quarto Publishing for making a copy of this book available to read in exchange for a review through NetGalley.

This is such a fun way to get kids involved in the kitchen. I really loved the way that it gives the definitions that they will need to know at the beginning of the book. I think that the recipes are also ones that are appealing to children which would make kids more likely to actually try what they make. I see this also as a great way to add cooking into a homeschool curriculum.

What a fantastic children's cookbook. Ram packed with not only recipes but kid friendly facts on food and the history of food and even quizzes. The photos are attractive and make you want to eat the recipes and the recipes are simple making it possible for little hands to make them.

Well done great book. Please excuse me because I'm going to go throw some s'more bars in the airfryer....

This book is FUN! My favorite recipe? Banana Sushi! I can’t wait to make some of these recipes with my son and nephews. For those with picky eaters, give this book a try. The author uses a lot of vibrant colors and fun ingredients that may combat some of those dinner time challenges. From the fun facts to the quizzes to the historical component, this is a five-star book. A huge thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Such a cute cookbook with great basics for kids. Great guide for setting up kids for being comfortable in the kitchen

I thought this kid's cookbook was well-written. I have to admit, as an adult I learned quite a lot from reading this cookbook. I didn't grow up being taught how to navigate the kitchen or make meals. I just watched and taught myself. It's nice to have an option like this to help inspire kids in the kitchen to cook. There is so much to be learned from this book. I showed a few recipes to my 8-year-old daughter. She was excited and understood what to do after reading through the recipe steps. The fun facts were so much fun. Overall, we loved that we could read through the book together. This in return gives kids and their parents something to bond over.

I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I downloaded this book because I have a 10-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy who both enjoy cooking and baking, and have previously attended a cooking summer camp for kids. Needless to say, this is not their first rodeo with cookbooks, but we enjoyed this one so much that I will be printing it and putting it in a binder for them!

As a parent, I appreciate that the beginning of the cookbook features kitchen safety rules, including proper knife handling, as well as more advanced tips like the importance of seasoning food and a handy meat temperature chart. Like most cookbooks geared for children, this one is pretty standard in its format, as it has easily-accessible sections for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, dessert, etc. My kids and I also enjoyed the interactive elements of this cookbook, including food quizzes and explanations of the history of certain meals, with a focus on multiculturalism/diversity.

While the book does give tips for picky eaters (my kids would not be considered picky), as a psychologist who works with ARFID kids, I don't think very selective eaters would consider most of the foods in here. That being said, if you have a mildly choosy kid and you are trying to get them excited about trying new & healthy options, the pretty and colorful photos may just do the trick to get them to be more open-minded and give things a chance, especially if you let your child take the lead and select more of the tame options (e.g., confetti sprinkle waffles) initially.

Kids in the Kitchen by Rossini Perez is a really great cook book for beginners and children. My 11 year old daughter is taking a cooking class and this is the perfect book for her. The instructions are clear and easy and the recipes use simple ingredients. My daughters are very picky eaters but when we went through and marked pages of what we want to make, there were so many meals marked.

Other things I like:
* tips on some recipes,
* safety in the beginning
* beginner skills: how to measure, how to cut
* how to cut
*quizes
*vibrant pictures

There is such a good variety of foods and it is sectioned and easy to find recipes. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point for voluntarily letting me read this book. The review is honest and my own opinion.

This would be a great book if you want to start cooking with your child in the kitchen. I highly recommend this book!

Wow, what a fantastic kids cookbook- it is so kid friendly, my 11 year old son has enjoyed looking through and choosing recipes to cook and follow. He is dyslexic but has found the instructions easy to follow and it’s been so lovely getting him to do something else other than gaming. He has loved selecting different recipes which he has been making for family to try. Some of his favourite recipes are the pretzel twists, cookie bake, the extra-fudgy brownies and the chicken nuggets. I will be recommending this cookbook to all!

This book will be in my kids’ Easter basket of it’s released then! It included basics needed for background info for new chefs. It was colorful, had kid-friendly recipes that my children would actually eat, and had a fun presentation.

Was this review helpful?

A great book that offers a wide variety of recipes for kids of all ages! My 5 year old is already excited to make some of the recipes.

Although this book is written with American products in mind, the ingredients are written in such a way that substitutes are easy enough to organise.

The book is colourful, engaging, and explains each step well. There is a really well written part at the start, which explains lots of safety tips and rules for children to stay safe in the kitchen.

Throughout the book, there are also pages sporadically placed that offer interesting facts and further knowledge into the ingredients (for example , a page on Bagels and their history!)

Was this review helpful?

I really enjoyed this cookbook. As a mom of girls, I want to teach them how to cook. As a mom of a daughter that is on the spectrum, there are so many variables that can make this task even more difficult. So many cookbooks for kids are either too advanced for my daughter (and assume she already knows how to do something like boil an egg)- this one does not. There’s step by step instructions for even the most basic concepts. I even learned a few things. Also, most cookbooks for kids don’t actually have food that my picky eater will try- this one does! The ingredients are simple and don't introduce too many new sensory experiences at once. I’m looking forward to continuing to try new recipes with my daughter as we try some new things and gain new life skills.

This book was received for free to review by NetGalley, but all views are my own. Thanks for a great book!

I was first drawn to this cookbook because of the fun cover! I love cooking with my son, so I knew I had to check out this book. It’s full of lots of great, easy to follow recipes. The s’mores bars and the sweet potato chips were two recipes that I am looking forward to making. The directions are easy to follow and engaging. The photos are a great addition. It always add something to a cookbook when it has photos.

Kids in the Kitchen is an easy to follow recipe book for children. I love how the recipes are divided, the book is very colourful and eye-catching with the recipes being easy to follow. The difficulty rating was great as they could decide for themselves which recipes they could try themselves and which they might need help with.

The information on cooking terms and the how to section is great for older children learning how to cook for themselves, I even learnt a few things!!

Great first cookbook with fun facts and quizzes for added interest

The empanadas will be the first thing I make from these fun recipes. These are all fun meals and snacks that can be fun to make with kids and that they will eat for sure.

Really nice and easy Cookbook for kids. I love that they give conversions of the measurements. My 6 year old is very inquisitive, and loves the fun facts on the recipes. We will be making the cinnamon crunch french toast in the morning.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

A simple recipe book with helpful guides to the kitchen as well. The book covers the history of some of the different foods, and is simple enough for kids to use.

Was this review helpful?

Excellent and easy-to-follow recipe books for kids! My 6-year-old nephew approves of the book and enjoys helping me make the food in the book. I love that it's broken down into categories rather than just recipes thrown in a book like most recipe books are. My nephew's personal favorite is the Chocolate Dirt Cups. I enjoyed the Black bean Tacos!

The recipes are easy to follow and most of them are quick as well, I believe the longest cooking time was still under an hour maybe 50 mins. I highly recommend this recipe book to anyone even if you don't have kids because all the recipes look amazing and the ones we have created have been wonderful!

Was this review helpful?

This cookbook is bursting with fun! There are so many helpful cooking references at a level that kids can easily understand. The recipes are so cute and kid-friendly. There are blurbs all over the pages that help catch interest like "History Time", "Test your Breakfast Knowledge", etc. We loved the facts, food fun and parenting tips. My kids and I tried a handful of these yummy recipes together. Two of our favorite were Confetti Waffles (perfect for birthdays) and Carrot Hummus, which was surprisingly addicting for all ages.

Review:

Now, I will say right off the bat, I do not have kids. So why review a kids cookbook? Well, I am a very picky eater, have many food allergies, and honestly mainly eat like a kid. I also use kids cookbooks often to help me in what to make for lunches because most kid friendly cookbooks have easy, quick, and healthy food ideas.

Kids in the kitchen is extremely well organized and I really enjoyed reading it. This book is broken into safety/handling and must haves and then goes into categories of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. For the safety and handling I loved the added little icons and images for a little extra visualization. Kitchen safety and handling is extremely important and I'm happy that this book introduces those types of things to kids. That rules and safety points were also very spot on for a kitchen. I worked as a cook in a kitchen for many years while in school so safety and handling stands out as a number one for me especially when kids are involved.

I wanted to not just read this book but also participate in making something from this cook book and I choose to make the chicken, ranch, and cheese roll ups for lunch. It was simple and oh so delicious! I did decided to pack the mixture of cream cheese, ranch seasoning, and cheddar to the side and put it all together during lunch as I wanted to avoid my tortilla from getting soggy. I think even a kid could put that together at school though if needed. I ate this with mini cucumbers and apple slices. It was a great balance and kept me full to dinner! I also didn't feel bloated like I do after some meals.

The other recipe I tried was a breakfast of Berry Frosted Parfait. This was so perfect and made a great start to my morning! It was also travel friendly. I was able to take it with me to work.

I think this book would be so much fun to read along with my child (at least in the future, we are working on it!) and could see myself cooking my way through this book.

This book is loaded with not just good recipes, but lots of tips, tricks, and food/handling safety. It's a one stop read for all things in the kitchen and made friendly for kids. I highly recommend this book if your looking for a good kid friendly cookbook!

Cooking is fun when you have a fun cook book and this is the book that young chefs should have!

A book that categorized in breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts and smoothies/juice, which helps young chefs to decide what to cook. Detailed and clear steps with mouth-watering photos next to the recipe. It’s irresistible! Also some great cooking fun facts are there too!

Let’s decide what to cook next.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my copy.

Such a fun, easy to follow cookbook, perfect for getting in the kitchen with children and letting them get cooking. From the basics of prepping and how to use equipment. There are lots of amazing recipes that are easy to follow and gives you a time to cook and an easy to cook rating. Such a great addition for the kitchen!

Was this review helpful?

I am so impressed with this recipe book! I actually requested it for myself because I'm autistic and find most recipe books either don't have foods that I enjoy or have complicated recipes that make it feel like too much even though I love to cook so I've been trying out kids recipe books and I have to say this is the best one yet! So it might not have been a goal but it is absolutely disability friendly and I love that

Some specific things I liked:
- Cute introduction and sections, so colourful and eye catching without being too much
- Easy to follow guides for cooking methods, measurements, kitchen tips etc
- Good layout with each section being a different meal or food group
- Nice illustrations and images throughout
- Very easy to follow recipes, some even had diagrams, and recipes that kids will actually love with a good range. I find a lot of kids recipe books have recipes that kids would never eat, at least the kids I know, especially picky eaters but this has great choices for every meal and every preference
- Loved the inclusion of history and
quiz time and the fun facts

One of the best recipe books I've read so far, definitely going to buy this and use a lot of these recipes for myself and my family

What a terrific cookbook for young cooks!!! I cannot wait to try these recipes with my kids.

The beginning (before the recipes even start) is so informative for the kids! The recipes are awesome! And not just simple recipes either.

Was this review helpful?

I am always on the lookout for a cookbook to share with my kids and family. I was so happy to receive this as an ARC ebook. Kids in the Kitchen is amazing! I can’t say enough about how wonderful this book is. Full of vibrant and bright pictures and illustrations that definitely get your attention. The details in the book are great. They are simple to follow and understand. The author does such a great job at creating recipes, directions and information that children can follow and complete. The book includes details such as the tools you need, understanding different items like types of flour and the doneness of meats as well as measurements and how to convert liquids. Even things I never thought of needing. It also includes fun history and more throughout the book. I love the step-by-step directions and recipes with things we may not have done before Perez helps detail so we can create amazing food. We have our favorites already; Avocado Toast with Creamy Scrambled Eggs, Crunchy Beef Quesadillas, some No-Bake Favorites and Banana Sushi. The best was a Whipped Chocolate Milk we can’t get enough of. I love how the books make it easy to cook with children of all ages and get their interest started in the world of cooking and baking. We will be buying this for our home and to give as gifts to our friends. I would give a thousand stars if I could. Enjoy it with your family.

Was this review helpful?

The book starts out with some helpful rules on cross contamination between meat and raw vegetables and washing your hands frequently and being safe when using knives and electric appliances.
Then a list of pantry staples such as flours, vegetables, meats, spices and other ingredients are shown so that you have enough available to start cooking.
A section on how to prepare your kitchen and have things laid out and ready is explained in detail.
These things should probably be discussed between the children and adults a few days before cooking commences.
The recipes start out with breakfast cookies, a good choice as cookies for breakfast sounds fun and the ingredients are mixed easily cooked on the stove and transferred to a baking sheet.
Cinnamon French toast is next, the ingredients are mixed together, bread is dipped into this mixture and then it is cooked on the stove.
These recipes are good, but a 8 - 10 year old needs a lot of supervision using a stove.
There are recipes for parfaits, fruit salad, tortilla roll ups and chicken lettuce wraps that require no cooking, which would be suitable for younger children.
The chicken nuggets, spaghetti and ravioli require cooking on a stove, so close supervision is recommended.
This cookbook will give your kids a good basic understanding of how to prepare and cook a meal.
