Description
When Peter Ash receives a phone call at four a.m., it's the start of a dangerous whirlwind that leads him into the criminal underworld.
Lewis has a criminal past that he's put behind him. He’s also Peter Ash’s closest friend, and he’s helped Peter out many times. So when he calls unexpectedly, asking for help, Peter knows things are serious.
An old criminal associate of Lewis's has gone missing from his home in upstate Wisconsin. There's blood on the snow, a burnt-out cabin – and a blizzard to contend with.
As Peter and Lewis search for answers, they discover something else is missing: notebooks with evidence of Lewis’s past crimes. Evidence that greatly interests some seriously dangerous criminals… killers who are willing to wipe out Lewis’s family to get what they want.
Soon, Peter is in a race against time to find that evidence – and stop the bloodshed before it's too late.
The latest propulsive thriller in the award-winning series, perfect for fans of Lee Child and Jordan Harper.

I’m new to Nick Petrie as an author and this series of books featuring Peter Ash. I’ve probably missed some character development but The Price You Pay works well as a standalone. I’ll have the pleasure of going back to earlier titles too as based on this read, I’ve missed out on a cracking series.
This is first rate thriller writing; fast paced, tense, keeps you turning the pages almost breathless at some points. Ash is called upon the help Lewis, a former criminal who’s under threat, along with his family. A series of diaries and other personal data has gone missing and these contain details of misdeeds that must not fall into the wrong hands. The mission is to retrieve them. But someone is out for revenge and will go to any lengths to stop him. This is pure escapist fiction and I’ve zoomed through this nail biting take and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. A couple of great characters, joined by their spouses in this outing, trying to outwit the baddies. Brilliant.
