To save her people, Princess Clove will have to do the unthinkable—marry her greatest enemy!
Clove is the last remaining heir of her Cerulean Dragon clan, fighting in a seemingly endless 300-year-war against the vast Crimson Empire. With no end to the war in sight, Clove agrees to leave her sheltered homeland in favor of a political marriage with the heir to the enemy Crimson Dragon clan, Prince Kyro.
Raised on the battlefields and feared by his rivals, the cutthroat prince is first to notice that Clove is hiding a dangerous secret she’s been working tirelessly to protect.
As tensions rise between these unlikely allies, the fragile peace brokered by their marriage is threatened by those who wish to continue the war. I loved this!! The illustrations are gorgeous!!! I was drawn in by the cover and art and that was my favorite part for sure! The story was incredible too, I am a sucker for an arranged marriage, enemies to lovers story! Throw in dragons and a war that's lasted 100s of years and honestly I couldn't ask for anything more! Clove and Kryo are so swoonworthy and I loved their tension, since this is volume 1 there is obviously so much to explore still with both of their backstories and I can't wait for Clove to unleash her beast. There was a little dreamwalking in this one that I am obsessed with, I hope we get more in volume 2! The side characters are also really well done, there was for sure some tension between Kryo's sister and Clove's captain of the guard, was so excited when it was basically confirmed in the end character sheets! There is also a bit of a love triangle with the Clove, Kryo, and her childhood friend/soldier; I don't think there's actually any competition for Kryo because again, he's just so swoonworthy! I do kinda hope he grows his hair out like his older brother, cause I loveee that look!
There are no words rich enough to fully describe subzero in all its glory. The characters are tantalizing from lovely and spirited Clove who is forced to marry her sworn enemy, the handsome smoldering but cunning prince Kyro, Kyro younger sister Kharis, Aaron and Nouren. I love them all. The cast is fantastic. And the Tory is sweeping. Get ready to swoon. Because all this gorgeous artwork is just the icing on a masterful delicious cake of storyline. As the Azure dragon, Clove is coveted for her status, her stunning beauty and her power but she hide a secret that could be very dangerous to herself and her kingdom. By contrast Kyro, the handsome Crimson dragon is a catch and then some but strongly guards his heart against his betrothed and anyone else who might come close to him after suffering a devastating loss in his past. Can these two , thrown together, find a way past thei ancient grudge of their houses to discover a soul mate in one another or are they destined by the plotting of their own houses and their painful pasts to betray and destroy each other? Only time will tell! You must read this! It’s amazing!
I absolutely love this series and have been following it since the beginning, so I jumped at the chance to review it. Subzero blends fantasy, romance, and political intrigue into a visually stunning and emotionally charged narrative. The first volume has already established a strong foundation, drawing readers into its richly imagined world and complex character dynamics.
Clove is a well-crafted protagonist, balancing her royal responsibilities with her personal struggles. Her strength and vulnerability make her a relatable and compelling character. Kyro, on the other hand, is enigmatic and brooding, with layers of complexity that slowly unravel as the story progresses. Their chemistry is electric, filled with tension and moments of genuine connection.
The artwork is breathtaking. The detailed character designs, vibrant color palettes, and dynamic action sequences elevate the storytelling. The use of dragon symbolism and motifs throughout adds depth to the narrative, emphasizing the cultural significance and power struggles central to the plot. The story explores themes of duty, sacrifice, and the pursuit of peace following the two different nations. The political intrigue adds a layer of complexity to the romance, making it more than just a love story. The conflicts between personal desires and greater good are portrayed with nuance, creating a sense of realism within the fantastical setting.
The first volume of Subzero is an excellent start to what promises to be an engaging and emotionally resonant series. The combination of strong characters, beautiful artwork, and intricate plotting makes it a must-read for fans of fantasy and romance. The story's pacing is well-balanced, providing enough action and emotional beats to keep readers hooked.
I am definitely going to be buying this whole series!
Pros:
Artwork is gorgeous.
Characters have lots of fun and memorable interactions.
Willpower based magic (with awesome visual effects).
Lots of mystery and plot threads.
One of my favorite webtoons! I love that it is coming to book format so that I can share it with my patrons. Art is fantastic and so is the story! If you love romance, fantasy, and some drama, definitely pick this series up.
Absolutely love everything about this series. The art is beautiful and I love to see how the relationship between the FMC and MMC develops. I love anything involving dragons, and this checks all the boxes. Definitely recommend!

I LOVED this! I found the story very intriguing and the characters interesting! I can't wait for the next volume. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves Avatar the Last Airbender and romance.
dragons?? SIGN ME UP! this book was so gripping, from start to finish, the stakes, marriage of convenience, the ‘power’ system and how the dragons play their role, all of it was so unique I was obsessed from the beginning, both characters are so intriguing, both keeping secrets from the other leaving a mysterious feeling for the reader, hailing from two different clans that are at war, the two main characters couldn’t be further from similar in any way, they’re so different and I can see how this clashing is going to continue in the future, the alliance holding over their heads making everyone on edge is definitely a playing factor into the dynamic and tension between the two characters which gives them such an indepth feeling to them! also, the art style is stunning, the attention to detail blew me away and I loved every part of it! overall, an amazing starting point for this story, I’m excited for vol 2 to come out, definitely going to be one of my most anticipated!
This one grabbed my attention after I read Fourth Wing but also a Manga fan. Plus a red haired MFC, YES absolutely. The characters do not like each other, I would not say entirely enemies to lovers, but haters to lovers. You have two stubborn MCs, and living in a world where choices are more controlled on outcomes versus what they desire, does not mean eventually they do not find them among the pushed choices. The art style is absolutely gorgeous you have the vivid color choices, and the writing is not overly draw out but put more details in the art. Definitely draws you in, and the story line is what sinks you further. I would highly recommend, and it was a great more mature read. Not too childish, it was honestly perfection.
Did I read this in one sitting.....yes I did! This is an incredible graphic novel and well worth the read! It has little bit of everything, romance, fantasy, and political intrigue to name a few. The characters are absolutely fantastic, and I can't wait to see them in further volumes! Also, the illustrations for this graphic novel are fantastic! I can't wait to purchase this for my library!
5/5
Clove - the heir to the azure dragon - agrees to marry Kyro - the Crimson Dragon - in hopes to end the war between their nations. When she arrives in his kingdom, Kyro is both dismissive and intrigued. There is no question however that the tension between their dragons is real. Will court intrigue push these two together or tear them apart.
I can't get over the art in this story. There is so much intensity in the scenes and the story. I was so sorry to see the last page and immediately pre-ordered the print edition. Read this!
I've read some of this comic before on webcomic and I am so happy to see that it is becoming an active publications. I'm a sucker for a good enemies to lovers and arranged marriage trope and this book has that. There is witty banter, there is intrigue and mystery, there are DRAGONS and after the current obsession with Fourth Wing I've had? It's been delightful to return to a dragon story that involves the dragons a bit more. Even the dragons are enemies. It is a great story and there is a lot of unknowns on the page about what happened to different people, what is happening to the dragon vessels, and what does everyone really want? Absolutely could not recommend this book more. Read it. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you NetGalley and Oni press for this arc
-Enemies to lovers
-Arranged Marriage
-Royals
I read this in one sitting because it's such a good story! It has a lot of plot twists, and you’re always entertained by every character. Being able to reread the dynamics, characters, and story reminded me how much I love SubZero.
This was one of the most addicting stories I read this year, the angst was too much! I kept looking forward to the interaction between the main two characters and I can't wait to continue with one! I recommend it!
This was amazing. I have started the Webtoon now because of reading this, and can't wait to buy my own copy!
Thank you to Oni Press and Netgalley for a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Absolute 5 stars - I have found a new graphic story to follow now! This was Vol 1 of the first 25 episodes, and more are out and available. Best believe I’ll be following this story enthusiastically from now on!
First off, I love the art style that this is drawn in - it’s vivid and sharp and it captures my attention, very pleasing to look at and read at the same time. The dialogue within the graphic novel is also easy to follow and the imagery gives a sense of where we are without needing too many descriptors - the story is easy to follow and fun to follow in this format! And I LOVE our two main characters Kyro and Clove - the secrets, the intrigue and the slow burn are all big interests of mine. Their upfront personalities are also presented as being very different though deep down you can tell there are similarities. The other characters have their own relationships and complexities, which just ties into the richness of the story.
In this volume, volume 1, we aren’t taken too many places beyond the castle walls once Clove settles there, but the series does expand. We don’t yet know too much lore or worldbuilding but that also builds within the story and ties into Clove’s arc in the long term. So while I long for more of the world, I also know its coming later in the series.
Overall I *really* enjoyed this graphic novel. I will be continuing the series and recommending it to readers who would love this style of story!
I didn’t realize till I began reading this that this is a webtoon that I had read back in my high school webtoon days. Re-reading it I still felt all the same excitement and I still blushed at the prospect of the romance you find within these pages.
Every single page is gorgeously rendered. You cannot talk about this without discussing how beautifully drawn and colored every detailed page of it is. It’s truly a masterpiece.
There’s drama and intrigue and scheming princesses and a century’s long war to end. Magic and dragons and a gorgeous palace. Not to mention absolutely stunning men and women… uhhh forget I said that. This webtoon is a fantastical thirst trap and an absolute pleasure to read.
This is a story to read when you need an escape into a wild dangerous world completely different from the world you are living in. It’s a book you read to blush and gasp at. A book you read when you want to completely be enraptured by something.
I adore it. I adore it as much as I did years ago. I am so happy to see that a story I’ve loved for many years getting its chance to be physically released today.
SubZero is unequivocally awesome. My teenage self is the happiest camper there ever was.
