Donal Ryan was born in a village in north Tipperary, a stroll from the shores of Lough Derg. His first novel, The Spinning Heart, garnered major acclaim and won the 2012 Book of the Year at the Irish Book Awards. He lives with his wife Anne Marie and two children just outside Limerick City.
