Spooky Poems Aloud is a great book that introduces poetry to children. Not only does it have examples, but it breaks down the different types into easy concepts that are easily understood. It asks probing questions and encourages with steps for children to try their own hand. It even recommends other forms of art, such as drawing or using their imagination. And the poems are cute!

The illustrations are nice and fit with the theme of the book.

This is fantastic to use in a classroom or for homeschooling, in addition to being used in the home.

Spooky Poems Aloud offers elementary school students a fun way to learn all about different types of poetry, explaining what each type of poem is and gives enough information so that kids can try to write their own. I really thought this was going to be a Halloween book but I was thrilled to see that this is a year-round spooky kind of book instead!! The illustrations are a fun type of spooky and the cover is intriguing for kids.

I love all poems by Joseph Coelho and this series in particular is good for use in the classroom. Each poem comes with a little prompt that inspires children to write poems.

This is the perfect read for younger readers to get them in the spooky spirit. I would definitely recommend reading this to them near Halloween.

This consists of 25 short poems with funny and spooky elements. The collection is perfect to read aloud and has its educational purpose as well. I also loved the illustrations!

My spooky loving son adored these poems and asked to read them again tomorrow! This collection would be a great addition to a poetry unit taught in school or to a home library in the fall. Fun poetry for reading together and reading aloud!

This is a wonderful book of poems from Joseph Coelho with some great illustrations really bringing them to life. I also really like the prompts!

Ah, I loved this! I really loved the illustrations and how the poems were shaped around them (especially The Tower). It was a quick, fun, and spooky book of poems that were enjoyable to read.

This book! It’s hilarious, it’s beyond hilarious, with a touch of a little bit of creepy, and the drawings are gorgeous.

My favorite part of learning about poetry when I was in school was when we got to make our own, following patterns we learned in class. This book would be great just because of the fun spooky poems, but it becomes a must-have because of the information about different kinds of poems along with exercises where you can write your own. Kids can learn about how poems are constructed; my favorite is the one that shows the stanzas getting smaller as the mummy gets smaller. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.

Gathered at the Table by Glenn’s Nellist (Sept. 9) Using poems, it explains Jesus last supper and his time at the table. Such a profound, kid appropriate explanation of the communion.

Rosie’s Wild Ride by Paige Murray (Oct 7) Her completion doesn’t go quite as planned, but what if we keep going and ask “What if I can?” as we follow big dreams! I can’t wait to get this for my daughter. Loved the illustrations.

Night Magic by Leigh Ann Henson (Sept 23) This was SUCH a fun book of information. Why does it take so long for the eye to adjust to night? Lots of great information with this book and at a child’s level.

The Mountain and the Goat by Slamk Taghaddas (Sept 23) I loved the concept of teaching resourcefulness in this one. Loved the storyline.

Sea Dog Boats by Astrid Sheckels (Jan 14) To learn all about boats, let the dogs lead the way. All about the ABCs and nautical adventures this is a really cute story!

Twelve Days of Summer by Sherri Meret (July 1) “On the first day of summer…” The animals take you on a summer adventure as you sing along! My kids LOVED this adorable book.

Franklin’s Trees by AJ Skenkman (July 1) A story about young President Franklin. A history major myself, this was a really cute informative book.

Outdoor Skills for Kids by Buck Tilton (June 3) My son thought this book was the bees knees. He learned so much from it and kept talking about “when you approach an animal this is what to do..” He was so excited to share all he learned.

A Very Dinosaur Christmas by Adam Wallace (Sept 2) The giggles with this one! Dinosaurs at Christmas is silly.

Joseph Coelho once again proves his unerring ability to write engaging poetry for young people of all ages. This latest book is filled with poetry for the spooky season that is perfect for reading aloud. I loved the illustrations that cleverly tread the line between creepy and comedy. This would be a great lower KS2 classroom book, with its notes about poetry types and invitations for children to complete their own poems using the prompts given.

This was VERY good. I think it will inspire many little poets out there. The explanation on how to create different types of poetry may be difficult for a child to understand at first, but after reading the examples I think they will be inspired.
The illustrations are really pretty and, honestly, the poems are really good. As an adult, I really enjoyed them. The spooky/supernatural element makes it so interesting not only for kids but also for me.
This is a perfect book for artistic kids and, dare I say, I think it could be used in school too.
I would recommend it to parents and teachers!
I'll write the title down in case I ever have kids because it's just SO lovely.

This was actually our first Joseph Coelho book and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We love poetry books and this one was an instant favorite. I love the way the author inspires the reader to write their own poetry. I even learned some new types of poetry that I had never heard of before. The poems were fun to read. This would be great book for a Poetry Tea Time in October. I recommend it for any library and I can’t wait to read some of Joseph Coelho’s other poetry books.

This is a great book to introduce poetry to children and make them fall in love with rhymes and poetry. It's a wonderful way to present funny and cute poems and inspire children to read more. I remember when I was young, little stories like this were the ones that made me fall in love with reading!

We are a family that loves Halloween and this fun collection of poems was perfectly fun. These poems are so fun to read out loud or as a fun whisper story time. Some are silly and some can give you chills. We had such a fun time reading these together. We found some favorites for sure, like Vampire Club Rules and The Tower. These were created with young readers in mind and a great opportunity to help children practice reading aloud and in front of others. Get creative with this fun book for your whole family.

This was such a creative read! I loved the concept of spooky poetry, but I didn’t expect it to be interactive, let alone educational! I read it as an adult, but I think this book appears targeted to kids when it was still enjoyable for a college educated woman in her 30s. I would get this book for my child while also gifting it to someone during spooky season, or anyone who enjoys Halloween vibes year round :)

I love poetry and love anything that may inspire kids to show an interest in it. This book is a great tool for that. I will be using the prompts to write my examples tonight.

This book is perfect to introduce Children and even Adults to poetry and the illustrations are great.

I love these simple spooky poems. Before each poem it give you advice on how to create new spooky poems, such as using onomatopoeia or using different spooky adjectives.

This would be a great gift for kids! Though, for the little ones, there should be parental assistance. I mean the zombie was a bit intense! I love that there’s a short intro about the kind of poem and some short exercises before the poem starts.

A children's poetry collection with some adorably spooky illustrations? Bring it on please. This is an amazing little poetry collection for the tiny poetry enthusiasts, especially since it's Spooktober! There are 25 poems to be read aloud with your children (or sometimes like in my case, by yourself) and guess what? These poems come with prompts for them tiny tots to write a poem of their own. Also, what I particularly liked was this teaches about villanelle poetic form, the difference between renga and tanka, a pantoum and so on. I do not remember reading a poetry collection which offered such unique features for the children to look upto and learn while enjoying the funny amd spooky poems. And lastly, I'd like to emphasize once more that the illustrations were really adorable along with the spooky poems of this collection.

I absolutely love this book of poems and from a teacher's and librarian's point of view, it is beyond perfect for creating mini-lessons and teaching not only the elements of poetry but how to write poems. I love how many of the poems have little starter prompts and cannot wait to purchase a physical copy to use with my students. I already know that we will be drawing a witch and comparing them to our peers.
