Description
The world was once full of magnificent beasts, big and small, who stomped across the land, soared through the skies and swam through waters deep and murky. Dinosaurs witnessed the shaping of our mountains, continents, seas and deserts and eventually an asteroid that would wipe out half of all life on Earth. This is the exciting and dramatic story of dinosaurs and how they lived on our planet.
Journey back in time to the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods and come face-to-face with prehistory’s most spectacular dinosaurs. Read about when they lived, where they lived, what they ate, and how you can see clues of these prehistoric creatures in our modern world.
With fact-packed text by Catherine Barr and Steve Williams and vibrant illustrations by Amy Husband, readers will walk across continents with a titanosaurus, stalk prey with a T-rex, and care for a baby velociraptor. This is an engaging first look at the incredible world of dinosaurs, written especially for young children.

This book is a children's book all about dinosaurs. It is full of information and colorful illustrations. I think a lot of kids will enjoy this one! I loved the illustrations and the information. I feel like kids will learn a lot from this book.
This would be a perfect gift for the dinosaur obsessed kid in your life!
Thank you so much to Quarto and netgalley for the arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This book's format is amazing. It uses the time period and what look like crayon drawings to teach about the ages of the dinosaurs.
I have a current third-grader who would LOVE this book!
There is also a fantastic glossary within this that makes it that much better. I would prefer that those words were bold in the text to help direct kiddos to the glossary.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group- Francis Lincoln Children's Books for the eARC!
Fantastic! As a parent of a dinosaur obsessed kiddo I have read my fair share of dinosaur books (and then some) but this one hits the mark. There’s just the right amount of information for a young brain. It’s not so much that it can overwhelm them. I like that it doesn’t name a million dinosaurs in such a short span, I find that can be overwhelming for kids. The high level overview of this book is just right. I also really loved that it spoke about titanosaurs as their own group and went on to talk about how argentinosaurus is included in the titanosaurs. The illustrations were lovely and really resonated with my kids. Would recommend this any day.
Wait. A. Minute.
THE ART IN THIS BOOK! Omg! It’s so whimsical and so cute, and it is absolutely PERFECT!
It *kind of* slightly resembles what a kid might draw, and it is so well done all while keeping that kind of childish touch to it.
The text also is perfect, also all kids love dinos, right? So, more dinos, please! And this little book is filled with dinos. And, it’s also filled with true dino facts.
The Story of Dinosaurs is a great picture book with information about dinosaurs and the times that they lived. I loved that the book was separated into different time periods to really show the breadth of the dinosaurs (and even a hint at what came first!). The illustrations were fun and bright and did a great job of engaging the reader with their friendly expressions. I definitely think this will be the book that makes some kiddos fall in love with dinos!
Thanks to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing, and Catherine Barr for the chance to read & review!
