Rebecca Thorne is one of my new favourite authors. Both Can't Spell Treason Without Tea and this, it's sequel/companion novel, she writes the biggest warm hug of a book that is just wonderful in every way!
'A pirate's life for tea' throw us back with Reyna and Kianthe, as they go on their quest to find dragon's stolen eggs. In their adventure, they meet new characters, who take quite an important place in the story : Bobbie and Serina. Other characters also make their space, with or without being there, creating an nice fabric of different personnalities, humour and love.
Bobbie and Serina love story is mainly told from Reyna and Kianthe persepective, a choice I understand but could bother other readers since it means we have less insight on the inner working on the two women. Still, their romance was pretty good, as is the continuing love between Kianthe and Reyna, with their quirks and teasing.
The plot moves quite a lot, and yet isn't a complicated one. The resolution is very easy to guess from the beginning, a part from one thing. It's more of a main plot with added side quest to make sure the initial guess right that a meandering one, where there is a lot of doubts. It didn't bother me, it works with the whole cosy side of the book. The presence of a fair share of actions helps in that regard too. The villain is... well quire villainous, not what I enjoy the most considering the one tone only kind of construction and how easy it was to "defeat" him, but it definitely works for the book !
All in all, a fun book with cosy vibes but stakes and actions, with a nice touch of romance.
A Pirate's Life for Tea is the second book in the Tomes & Tea series. I adore this cozy fantasy series so much. Rebecca Thorne's writing is so much fun to read. The book follows Kianthe and Reyna as they go on an adventure to retrieve stolen dragon eggs and introduces new characters. I love Kianthe and Reyna's relationship dynamic so much. I highly recommend picking up this series if you're looking for the perfect blend of coziness and action. I can't wait to read the next book. Thanks to the Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and honestly review an advanced reader’s copy of this book.
This hit every mark that the first book did for me. Cosy fantasy with real stakes, a diverse and fun cast, this time introducing more lesbians, and the non-binary dreadful pirate that stole the show for me.
If you loved Key and Rain in the first book, they’re just as good in this one. Following on from the main storyline in the first book, we travel along with them to locate the missing Dragon Eggs, with only a handful of side quests on the way there. I liked the way everything wrapped up in the end, and I’m very excited for the third instalment!
A Pirate’s Life for Tea follows the delightful, cosy, tea-filled heartwarmer that is Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea. This round we’re following Reyna and Kianthe upriver, downriver, and all-around-river, hunting pirates and having a delightfully silly time.
Admittedly the stakes were a little higher in the sequel than the first, but Rebecca Thorne promises a happy ending, and a happy ending I did find. With sass, and wine, and fights, and gryphons, and mysteries, and many boats, along the way.
I don’t have a whole lot to say about this one, except that I had such a nice time, and if you, like me, delighted in book one of the Tea and Tomes series, then you will have such a nice time in the second book. My favourite thing about the book was what is mentioned in the dedication, which I won’t quote because I shan’t spoil the giggle you’ll have.
Cosy fantasy is one of those styles you have to be in the mood for, and I was, and I loved it. Thank you and goodnight.
I really enjoyed this sequel! 4.5 stars rounded up to 5!
This is the second book in Rebecca Thornes Tomes and Tea series. This starts just after we finish 'Can's spell treason without tea' and continues Kyanthe's and Reina's hunt for the dragon eggs.
This was a truly enjoyable read. I really enjoyed the first book but I think I prefer this one just a little more. I loved the new characters Bobbie and Serena. We follow their developing relationship through Kyanthe and Reina's POV and it works surprisingly well. They feel well fleshed out and real.
The pacing is good and the plot continues to be engaging.
If you are a mood reader, this has some wonderful Autumn vibes and is perfect to read just after it releases in October. Do note however, that you really do need to read the first one in order to follow what is happening here.
Overall, This is a near perfect sequel to the first book and I cannot wait for then next one!
Thank you to Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for the ARC . All opinions are my own and I am posting them voluntarily.
