I used to dread rush hour. Now I live for it...
Rachel wakes from a coma to discover her controlling husband has been killed, and the police suspect her of involvement.
But all Rachel can recall from the last few weeks are tantalising flashes of a fellow commuter. A man whose name she doesn't know.
A man who has disappeared without a trace.
Now Rachel is a wealthy widow and the vultures are circling, wanting her in prison for murder, or failing that ... dead.
Can Rachel discover the truth in time to save herself?

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
Well that was a roller coaster of a read!! Lots of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Loved this book and can't wait for it to be released. One of my favourite reads this year, and I will definitely be checking out more books by this author.
Well what can I say Emma Curtis has knocked out another fantastic thriller. I was so excited to read this I had to stay up late to finish it. It had me gripped from the first page until the very last. It was a rollercoaster of a ride with so many twists and turns I could not work out who the culprit was.
This is such a talented author to write such fantastic books which seem to just get better and better.
Rachel is married to Anthony who is older and a very wealthy man. Anthony had a heart attack a few months ago and Rachel feels since then he has changed she isn’t getting on with her stepdaughter the atmosphere in the house isn’t very good. So when she catches the eye of a fellow commuter Rachel’s life takes a drastic turn.
I loved the writing style of the story it just flowed throughout. I thought the characters were so well developed that it felt so real. Overall I absolutely loved this book my favourite read this year. I can’t wait to recommend this fantastic thriller to everyone.
Another wonderful read from this talented author.
Well written characters and a fabulous storyline full of twists.
Many thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
The publication date is the 10th October. Another twisty, intriguing and gripping book by Emma Curtis. This book had many twists and turns that kept me glued it was so good I devoured it in one sitting.
I’d highly recommend this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars! 😊
'The Commuter' jumped straight to the top of my TBR and I am very glad it did. Its absolutely packed full of twists and turns, no-one is who they seem at first or even second glance.
Rachel is married to a much older and very wealthy man Anthony; she loves him deeply but Caroline his adult daughter has never been a fan of Rachel's and even after 12 years of marriage is trying to separate Rachel and Anthony in any way she can. Rachel finally flips, telling Anthony a few home truths about his precious daughter - Anthony retaliates, hitting Rachel across the face. He's clearly crossed a line in their relationship and its up to Rachel how their marriage continues from here.
One day on a packed broken down tube, Rachel catches the eye of handsome stranger Sean. There's an immediate spark between them, and they find themselves meeting on the same train line again and again. Is this the man that Rachel has been waiting for? Or is the attraction between them more of a clue to the sorry state of her marriage?
The book zips forward and back in time, opening up with Rachel racing home from a party, trying to stop something from happening before its too late. Then we find out what might have led up to her decision, ping ponging back and forth in the story timeline.
The pace is fast and furious from start to finish - excellently entertaining and would make a wonderful netflix series.
To say this book is gripping really doesn't do it justice, it is immense - in terms of psychological fiction, this ticks my boxes for days!
The story is that of a 30 something woman, Rachel, who falls for, and ultimately marries a man, her senior by a significant number of years. Twelve years into married life and the spark has gone, the dwindling flame having being thoroughly extinguished when husband, Anthony, hits Rachel over her disapproval over his enabling of narcissistic daughter , Caroline,, such that when Rachel meets a handsome stranger on the daily commute, her head is well and truly turned!
This is a novel of murder, attraction, and, highly significantly, amnesia! It is deliciously dark,,,and utterly unputdownable - I cant recommend this highly enough!
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
I really enjoyed this book
I have a couple of Emma's other novels which have promptly moved up my too be ready queue
I couldn't put this down. What a read
This book has everything I want in a thriller - well written and fast-paced with lots of twists. The characters have secrets that are revealed as the plot unfolds. I became gripped by the story and couldn't put it down. Highly recommended.
Omg!!!!! This book is amazing
Brilliant writing with great characters and plot twists. I had no idea who had done what until the very end.
This is a story of Love/Hate and manipulation that's packed with mystery and a network of clues leading you in different directions, trying to solve just who did what and why.
Going forward and backwards in time you're never quite sure who to believe, but it's written so well that you are keep enthralled throughout, and with a few surprises on the way that are most welcome and a well concluded ending this is a very good read my most enjoyable by the author to date.
Thanks to Netgalley and Atlantic Books for the ARC.
This is my favourite book by the amazing Emma Curtis. Part mystery, part domestic noir, I was absolutely hooked. Highly recommended xx
A book that makes the hairs on the back of your neck tickle and the hairs in your arms stick up. I found it quite scary and the thought of not knowing what had happened in the past really debilitating. Brilliant read and so good!
Another gripping thriller by Emma Curtis.
Rachel loves her husband Anthony. OK so there is a big age difference, Anthony is very rich, which makes some people think Rachel is a bit of a gold digger, and Anthony has a daughter, Caroline, who is determined not to get along with Rachel, and just lately, Anthony has seemed to be very controlling, even resorting to physical violence with Rachel, but all marriages have a few ups and downs, don't they?
Rachel wakes up in a hospital bed, with no memory of how she got there. Doctors break the news that her husband is dead, murdered. Rachel is shocked and has no recollection of anyone who would want to hurt Anthony.
Her memory starts to come back very slowly in bits and pieces, leaving Rachel with only more questions. Could she really have killed her husband? Who is the handsome stranger who Rachel had seen on the train each morning? Could Caroline possibly be involved somehow?
Emma Curtis twists and turns the plot, and I don't see the ending coming. A brilliant read.
A tense read to the point that it is almost a relief to quickly get to the end. The reader is always on edge as another twist, another lie, another incorrect assumption pulls you along to a conclusion that is satisfactorily surprising.
The Commuter is a tense and twisty psychological thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. The story follows Rachel, a woman who wakes up from a coma after a car accident, only to learn that her wealthy husband has been murdered. With no memory of the events leading up to his death, Rachel must piece together what happened.
The plot is full of suspense, false leads, and mysterious characters—in particular, a man she remembers meeting on her daily commute.
I found it to be a gripping and fast-paced read, one that’s perfect for fans of domestic thrillers - especially those with morally grey characters!
Trigger warnings to be aware of include: themes of gaslighting, coercion, and domestic violence
Love the way this book starts, your mind is all over the place and cleverly makes you feel for the protagonist as she also doesn’t know what’s happening.
It hooks you right in and I honestly couldn’t put it down. Easy to read and thoroughly enjoyable.
What a rollercoaster of a read! A fantastically uneasy thriller with a protagonist suffering from memory issues. Crammed full of twists and turns and deeply unpredictable, this will keep you turning the pages. A very satisfying read.
4.5 stars rounded up.
Oh. My. Goodness. I saw one of my favourite authors post on Instagram about loving this book so I immediately went to request it and was not disappointed!
I love a thriller that keeps me thinking and guessing, whilst not being able to even come up with an idea about how it’s going to turn out. Every single thing that happened, I was nowhere near expecting. And I loved it! As well as the brilliantly unpredictable story, there was the stunning writing. During the scene-setting part of the story, Emma created such an incredible feeling of unease, and slow-building tension. And then the truths start to be revealed… and it was just ace!
The story itself centres around Rachel – although we do start to hear snippets from the points of view of more of the characters towards the end. It starts with Rachel having a car crash and then waking up from a coma, unable to remember anything from the last few weeks. We don’t know why she was in such a panic to get home – but she soon learns that her husband, Anthony, was killed that night.
We then go back in time a few weeks, and find out how precarious Rachel and Anthony’s marriage had become, and how Rachel met a mystery man on her commute to work. But she cannot remember whether she had an affair or not, and has no way of contacting him.
I thought the characterisation of Rachel was brilliant – she felt like a real person, with lots of layers and a sad and difficult history. The fact that she couldn’t remember parts of the recent past made it feel like I was living the story with her, willing things to be pieced together.
Quite an exhausting read (I couldn’t stop reading it from about 60% through!) but thoroughly enjoyable!
A great concept that leads into a compelling and thrilling read. Really enjoyed it, plenty of twists and a satisfying reveal at the end.
4.5 stars, this book is fast paced with lots going on but I felt it remained easy enough to follow. Rachel wakes up from an induced coma following a drunken car crash to find her husband has been murdered and her memory of the last 6 weeks is non existent. Flashes of a man (not her husband) keep coming back in wisps but she can’t quite grasp the edges of these memories. She is isolated at this point, suspected by the police, despised by her contemptuous step daughter, betrayed by her narcissistic mother until she meets Dominic a therapist. As Rachel slowly builds herself back up we quickly start to discover not everyone is who they appear to be and events have not unfolded as we assume they have. Kept me gripped all the way through l, I could see this becoming a film easily. Highly recommend
What a tangled web we weave. A story of how relationships of many kinds affect our lives, some are barely recognised or understood, others can have devastating consequences. Rachel attends an interview and has an immediate attraction to her would be boss. Long, story short they marry. Twelve years down the line with their age difference beginning to show and the tedious bitterness of her stepdaughter dragging her down, Rachel is flattered by the attentions of a complete stranger on her commute to work. It begins an unstoppable chain of events that threaten the stabilty and lives of all concerned. A gripping book that has the reader wondering just who is trustworthy and with manipulative characters aplenty it delivers a dark, fast paced story. A definite page turner and thoroughly recommended.
This had me hooked from the first page. A great thriller. I finished this in a day as it was so difficult to put down. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Another amazing story from this author
.
I have read two of this author's previous books so was really pleased to request this one and it certainly did not disappoint!
Rachel is 38 and has been married to her husband Anthony, who is 68, for 12 happy years. The only downside is her stepdaughter, Caroline, who is an aspiring actress who spends most of her life 'resting' and living off her father in the marital home. Rachel has tried to explain to Anthony over the years that Caroline needs to stand on her own two feet but, in his eyes, she can do no wrong. When Rachel tries to make Anthony understand one more time he hits her which has never happened before and makes her start to re evaluate her marriage and her life.
On her daily commute to work Rachel meets an attractive stranger on the tube and is immediately attracted to him. All she knows is that he is called Sean but reeling from her husband's behaviour Sean becomes the highlight of her day.
The book begins when Rachel goes to a friends party, gets very drunk but on receiving a phone call from her husband saying 'What have you done?' jumps into her car and wakes up in a coma in the hospital remembering almost nothing and then discovering Anthony has been murdered.
Caroline is determined to blame Rachel and as Rachel cannot remember anything makes a good case against her. Rachel goes to a psychologist to try and sort her life out but is he the man he seems? The plot has many twists and turns and we hear all different sides of the story. I enjoyed this book and wanted to know what had really happened. The characters are always very well written and I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story.
