The Anime Café is a fun collection of anime themed tutorials and recipes by Nadine Estero. Due out 3rd Sept 2024 from Quarto on their Rock Point imprint, it's 160 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

The recipes all have specific anime tie-ins from a -wide- variety of popular and less well known shows, from Pokemon and Deathnote to Free! and Spy x Family. They're sort of randomly arranged thematically: classics, comfort food, and cute (kawaii) dishes.

Recipes include an introduction and text box with info about what show and episode the dish comes from. The author has also included yields, prep/cook/cooling times. Ingredients are listed in a bullet list sidebar, followed by step by step cooking directions. Ingredient measures are given in imperial (American) units, with metric in parentheses (yay!). Tips, alternatives, and prep hints are also provided in highlighted text boxes at the end of the recipes.

There are no photographs, but all the dishes are clearly illustrated (see cover art). This would absolutely star in conjunction with an anime binge watching party with friends. Five stars. Highly recommended for fans of anime or anime/manga culture. I could see this also being a good choice for a reluctant cook, to get them into the kitchen and making food.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I had such a great time with this cookbook! Being pretty new to anime, I recognized a few dishes, but most were awesome new finds that really got me excited to check out more shows. The recipes were super clear and easy to follow, with lots of helpful tips along the way.

I especially loved the super cute artwork that came with each recipe—it made the whole experience so much fun. The background stories and inspirations behind each dish added another layer of enjoyment, making me feel more connected to the culture and the shows.

I can't wait to get back in the kitchen and make more tasty and adorable anime-inspired food. This cookbook has not only given me new things to cook but also made me even more interested in exploring anime. I'm looking forward to trying out more recipes and discovering new shows, one delicious dish at a time!

What a delightful cookbook! I love the illustrations and the attention to detail. It even gives references and context for exact episode that the food or drink comes from. I haven't tried following the recipes yet, but it looks like there is a range from simpler to more difficult. I think this would make a perfect gift for the anime lovers in your life, and I can't wait to see the pictures in a physical copy.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I obsessed with this cookbook. I already know that I am going to buy multiple copies to use as house warming and birthday gifts.

The art is gorgeous! The amount of detail that went into each picture is insane. The picture of the Anya and Bond dumplings was probably my favourite, but I loved everything.

From the cream puffs from Mashle to Hinata’s onigiri from Naruto, this book has everything you could want.

I absolutely adored Nadine Estero’s The Anime Chef Cookbook and was ecstatic to have the pleasure to read The Anime Café. Everything about this cookbook is adorable! The visuals. The illustrations. The layouts. These all go together very well, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing cookbook. The recipes were also clear and concise, making it easy to follow with inclusion of both imperial and metric units of measurements. I love how each dish connects to a specific anime and the little blurb for each dish really adds to the overall theme. This would make a wonderful addition to one’s collection!

The art in this is really cute and the recipes look really fun there’s a few I really want to try! I really appreciate that there’s art for each recipe it makes me more inclined to want to try it. The color choices and themes look great too!

This is so great! The recipes are easy to follow, the layout is really aesthetically pleasing and the art is adorable! I can't wait to try some of these recipes

I loved this cookbook. The only thing that could have made it better were actual photos, but the drawings are super cute.

I liked the fact that they mentioned the anime, season and episode where you can see that type of food/beverage.

Regarding the recipes, the units are both imperial and metric, the instructions are quite clear, and usually the ingredients are not uncommon.

All in all a great addition in the kitchen if you are looking for something fun to impress your otaku friends, or are looking for cute recipes to make when you want something easy to enjoy while relaxing.

This was a cozy short read, perfect for summer or cold weather. I love that it has a touch of every anime dish (from popular to underrated) and classic dishes to complex ones such as: timeless or decorated drinks, cheesecakes, cream puffs, pancakes, parfaits and even some coffee recipes! I was delighted to find even some Japanese cusine dishes such as: mochi, fried rice, dumplings, dangos and even MOCHI DONUTS, hello?!
On my way to find some of the ingredients online and try those recipes myself! Summer just got cooler and better with the seltzers and cocktails recipes that I just found haha.

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this book from Netgalley.

I really enjoyed this anime cookbook! The recipes are super cute, and I feel like any fan would be excited to have this. I don't watch a lot of anime, so I didn't know a lot of the shows that the dishes were based off of, but it was still adorable. I definitely want to try a few of the recipes!

Thanks to NetGalley, Nadine Estero, and Quarto Publishing for the chance to read and review! My opinions are my own.

The cutest recipe book I've ever seen! My husband and I love anime so we will be making many of these treats, we loved looking through it and seeing all the different recipes from our favourite animes.

This is the cutest recipe book I have ever read. The layout is immaculate. The artwork is stunning, the instructions are so easy to follow. This is a top tier fun nerdy cookbook that would look just as good on your coffee table closed as it does open on your counter making the food. And where do you even begin. I want to make everything. How this book was created makes everything look and sound so appetizing. I just cannot stop gushing about this book. I have to get a copy for my niece, she will love this.

This book was provided by NetGalley but all opinions and reviews are my own.

The first word that comes to mind is AH-MAZINGGGG!
ALL THOSE COZY & WARM RECIPES WITH VISUALS IN ONE PLACE!?
YES PLEASE! ❤️

This was such a cute book! I've always been a fan of Ghibli movies - and specifically foods and drinks in them - so these illustrations are a real treat! A lot of the recipes seem perfect for summer, lots of drinks and yummy sweets, so I'll be trying a few in the next months. First one on my list would definitely be coffee jelly and the Strawberry brick toast!
This is a book I'd like to have on my shelf though, a physical copy, because it would be such a comfort to flip through it and get ideas for some treats for your friends..

Cute, lovely book. Yum.

This is the most charming cookbook, from the recipes by popular Instagram creator Nadine Estero to the adorable illustrations by Jana Paynor. I've always been fascinated by the food shown in anime, the whole cozy cuteness of it all that always looks like the manifestation of love.

There are fun recipes from well-known movies like the honey-milk from Ponyo and peach buns from Spirited Away, and others from specific episodes of series like the mont blanc cupcakes from an episode of Tono-Chan is a Girl. Each recipe has little notes explaining the context along with the sweetest colorful illustrations of what each should look like finished. I will absolutely be making the Sadist Bunny Parfait from Blend S, with a cayenne strawberry sauce that goes over a complex sundae type dessert.

I love the whole design of this book; it's just so aesthetically pleasing and well thought-out.

Thank you so much to Rock Point and Netgalley for this ARC!

This is a cozy anime lovers dream!
I was first intrigued by this book seeing that there was Studio Ghibli inspired recipes included, and ghibli food has always looked divine. Not only does this cookbook give so many fun recipes to try inspired by well loved anime’s like Sailor Moon, One Piece, and of course Ghibli, but it gave me so many new anime’s to watch as well! I think it’s so much fun to make food to go with a show. That’s my kind of Friday night! Really appreciated how easy to follow the recipe instructions are as well. Manageable even for a very beginner cook like me!

I love how there are so many foods from SO many different animes!
I'll be working my way through all of them.

11/10 definitely recommend!

Thank you Quarto/Rock Point & NetGalley for the ARC :)
The illustrations and theming of this Anime Cafe cookbook are adorable! Nadine does a wonderful job outlining where each recipe comes from, and the context in which the food appeared in an anime. Additionally, I love the fact that conversions are thought of-- saves an extra step. Especially with baking, it helps more with the weight measurements rather than Imperial/American cups etc. I love that she also adds cute tips and parts of her research (asking about sourcing of chestnuts for the Mont Blanc recipe) in too.

Many of these recipes are baked goods, so I would say not easy for a beginner-- but I enjoyed reading through the recipes and seeing the amount of joy that compiling and making this cookbook had for the author!

This cookbook is so well illustrated and the recipes seem very easy to follow! I think this would be a great gift for anyone who likes anime and cooking, or just anyone who likes anything cute! I think the illustrations are the best part, I could just sit there admiring the pictures to be honest.

This book was ultra cute and perfect for someone like me who both enjoys anime and baking. I really loved the information added about the recipes, such as the episode of the show and the context of the recipe coming up in the show and bonus info about the recipe. Helps you jog your memory about the scene and also lets to learn a few tidbits about the recipe. Even the quotes from characters were cute.

As for the ingredients lists, I like that some ingriendents were given an alternative form of measurement. For example, cup measurements were also given in grams or litres. That i find were helpful from my experience in looking at recipes and usually needing to go convert some measurements.

i appreciate that the recipes range from simple to more complex. So its good for any skill level

I really liked the illustrations. They were simple and cute but also make your mouth water. I really like the art style of the book in general.

Perfect book for anime lovers/cooking and baking enthusiasts!

Thank you so much to Rock Point and Netgalley for this ARC!

I will DEFINITELY be giving some of these recipes a shot. Especially some of the drinks! The artwork is stunning, I love that the foods and drinks are all illustrated. It's so pretty! Will my creations look as beautiful? Probably not, but that's alright! I love that the author includes some background on what anime the recipe is from as well as which episode. I bookmarked that carrot elixir page because I WILL be going back to it!

This book was so cute! Not only were most of the anime in it popular enough that the average anime fan would recognize nearly all of them, but the selection of anime across different genres is broad and includes slice-of-life, romance, isekai, and action, so there's a little something for everyone. The pictures included are so cute, and I'm excited to try out the different recipes. Definitely a 5 star read for any anime foodies.

I’ve never felt hungrier reading through a cookbook! The different recipes and ideas are reasonable and doable at home, and designed to recreate the beautiful and delicious looking meals from your favourite anime. I love that each meal has the show, season, and episode noted down so you can refer back to where you’ve seen the recipe. The artwork is also in the art style of an anime which is a really nice touch! Can’t wait to actually have a physical copy of this so I can work through the recipes to make at home. A must buy for any anime fan.

Beautiful art work, great recipes! The recipes say which anime the food is from and they all look delicious! I was wishing there were photos of the irl dishes made so I knew what to aim for but that's my only little nitpick. Definitely pick it up if you want to make anime dishes!

Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and their publishers for this free book in exchange for an honest opinion!

I loved seeing all the food, desserts and drinks I have been wanting to try from my favourite animes!

The design of the book both efficient and beautiful. I love that any special tools that may be needed are mentioned at the beginning, so you don't have to read through the whole recipe to see if you need a special pan.

I also really appreciated that prep, marinate, cook and cool times were given separately where applicable.

The instructions were also written in a way that would enable you to use your time efficiently, especially for recipes that required doing multiple things at the same time.

I could not stop myself from drooling while looking at the recipes. Will definitely be adding this to my cookbook collection and trying some recipes soon!

What a cute cookbook! I really enjoyed the variety of snack and drink recipes from a number of different anime. The pictures for the recipes are illustrations rather than photographs, which is unusual but fits perfectly with the anime theme, and the illustrations are adorable and drool-worthy. A perfect cookbook for anime-lovers!

I have to wipe the drool from my chin before I write this review…

This book is YUMMY! Yummy illustrations, yummy backstory, and YUMMY recipes inspired by your favorite anime foods & beverages that always left your mouth watering and wishing for a taste!

Now, with a little preparation, the right ingredients, and the help of this magically whimsical Anime Café recipe book, you can actually bring those flavors and dreams to life within your own home.

This is a book you can eat with your eyes, that brings joy just from reading alone—I absolutely cannot wait to plan and shop for my first recipe. I am going to make the Brown Sugar Milk Tea from My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu and the Naruto Onigiri, as I have been on an onigiri kick this summer! (The boba tea was an obvious yes. It’s boba.)

Such a fun and beautiful book, sure to make your mouth water before you even set foot in the kitchen to make your first recipe. As a Cooking Mama fan, this also fills a nostalgic anime-food-shaped spot in my heart.

I cannot describe how in love with this recipe book I am for a variety of reasons:
- it features dishes from beloved anime, such as Death Note, Sailor Moon Cardcaptor Sakura, Spa x Family, Naruto, and so many more. I love that not only lists anime where the dish appeared but also describes a particular scene in which it appears and its significance;
- the recipes vary from easy and fast recipes that could be accomplished without a hassle to elaborate and time-consuming but no doubt delicious masterpieces, also, the author does a great job going step-by-step providing a lot of guidance and truly detailed advice, as well as some tips to ingredients acquisition;
- THE ILLUSTRATIONS. Absolutely adorable, beyond perfection.
