4.5 STARS

This book may have reignited my love for fae romantasy!

There are so many books coming out now that use the lore and mythology of the fae in similar ways, it's hard to find a book that stands out. While this means that most fae stories have similarities, and this was no exception, The Courting of Bristol Keats stood out for it's exceptional world building and gripping storytelling.

Mary E Pearson masterfully balanced plot and romance. The romance had good tension, a little yearning and just enough open-door scenes that ensured the book read as adult, without sacrificing the plot. My only gripe was that the MMC seemed to come to the conclusion he was in love extremely swiftly, and I would have liked a little more of his POV so that this realisation would have felt more developed for us as readers.

I was expecting this book to end on a gripping cliffhanger, as so many fantasy stories do. But, while there are SO many questions that I have, the book ended in the most unexpected place, and really had me checking to make sure I didn't miss a final chapter!

A thrilling romantic fantasy full of dangerous fae, even darker family secrets and an addictive romance that will leave you breathless. Pulled into a dangerous world of magic and intrigue, she makes a deadly bargain with the fae king. But what she doesn’t know is that he’s the one who drove her parents to live a life forever looking over their shoulders.

A bargain struck between them will find these characters thrown together, but the distrust between them may be their undoing, even if they can’t stop thinking about each other in the process of their scepticism about the other. There was always something new and fascinating to learn about the world that the author has created, filled with magical creatures, dangerous magic and a beautiful world you will never want to leave. A great adult fantasy debit from one of my all time favourite authors!

I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and honestly review an advanced reader’s copy of this book.

This is the first time in a long time that I’ve had such fun with a Fae Romantasy. The Courting of Bristol Keats is a breath of fresh air in this very popular genre!

The Fae were a varied species, no brooding shadow daddies to be found, and the world takes you back to those classic early Fae books from the 2010’s.

The main thing in this story is the romance, which I actually enjoyed quite a lot. It didn’t feel rushed, they fit well together, and the romance wasn’t more important than the plot, which was just as good.

The ending was a bit sudden? It wasn’t quite a cliff hanger, it felt like a strange point to stop, but I think I liked how unique that was.

If you love the Fae but you’re tired of seeing the same thing over and over again, this is for you!

The Courting of Bristol Keats by Mary E. Pearson was such an incredible ride! From the very first page, I was hooked. The mix of forbidden romance, faerie curses, and nonstop action had me flipping through the chapters like my life depended on it. The world-building is absolutely stunning. Pearson's realm of fae, gods, and monsters feels so rich and alive that I was completely immersed.

Bristol’s journey was full of twists I didn’t see coming, and the tension between her and the morally grey fae king, Tyghan, kept me on the edge of my seat. The romance had that perfect blend of tension and mystery, while still leaving me wanting more. And the emotional depth of the story? Wow. There were moments that had my heart racing, breaking, and soaring all at once.

I also loved how the story explored themes of second chances and forgiveness in such a raw and real way. The characters, even the side ones, were developed beautifully, and their banter added a nice balance to the darker, more intense moments. The ending left me speechless – a cliffhanger that guarantees I'll be counting down the days for the next book.

If you love fantasy with a good dose of romance and high-stakes action, The Courting of Bristol Keats is a must-read! Mary E. Pearson has truly earned her crown as the new queen of faerie.

The Courting of Bristol Keats was an absolute page-turner, with a gripping storyline that kept me hooked from start to finish. The character development was exceptional, bringing each character to life in a way that made their journeys both relatable and compelling. I particularly enjoyed the pacing of the story—it was perfectly balanced, keeping the tension high while allowing room for the world-building to shine.

The intricate world of fae and mythical creatures was vividly portrayed, adding layers of depth to the narrative. The blend of romantasy and fantasy elements was seamless, drawing me deeper into this enchanting universe. The plot twists were masterfully executed, keeping me on the edge of my seat and making the story truly addictive.

The writing itself was beautiful, with each word carefully chosen to evoke strong emotions. Whether it was joy, sadness, fear, or excitement, I felt every moment, which is a testament to the powerful storytelling at play. The emotional impact was undeniable, as the story deftly navigated the highs and lows of the characters’ experiences, leaving a lasting impression.

The ending left me reeling, questioning, and double-checking for more chapters—I wasn’t ready for it to be over. It’s rare to find a book that leaves you simultaneously satisfied and craving more, but The Courting of Bristol Keats did just that. Now, I’m eagerly anticipating the second book in the series and can’t wait to see where the story goes next!

A big thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!🥰

I would describe the vibe with the following words:

whimsical, magical, mysterious, humorous, romantic and adventurous.

I loved the world the book was set in and that there always was a surprise around the corner waiting for you.
It did have a bit of a build up but that was just fine for me and really helped with enjoying the story later on.

You could catch me laughing, wondering and being thrilled while reading this!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I am losing my mind by how AMAZING this book is!! My fae queens have been Holly Black and Lyra Selene, and now they are joined by Mary E. Pearson! I'm telling you, adult fae romantasy has never looked this good!

For the most part, it's told by Bristol's pov, but we do have some chapters told by Tyghan's pov, and a couple of scarce chapters told by others, which gave us new nuanced insight into the world and plot.

I'm borrowing the Tyghan's description of Bristol because it's so spot on. Bristol is the alpha sister of three, even though she isn't the oldest. She is the protector and a leader in groups, even before some revelations. She has a sharp mind and sharper tongue. She is stubborn and fierce and loyal, and she has a strong moral compass that doesn't waver by anything, even by family. In other words, she's the best lmao!

Tyghan is still plagued by a betrayal, traumatized both emotionally and physically. He doesn't trust, he doesn't laugh, he simply does his duty with a bullheaded personality. But he is fair. He judges people by their actions, he doesn't assume, and he takes into consideration every single scenario and has backup plans for his backup plans. He is an amazing main character, and I love him deeply.

The romance is SIZZLING and the chemistry is SCORCHING!! Sparks fly at every encounter along with banter and flirting. It was so wholesome, and what a joy to read! It really made me fall deeper in love with the characters and the book.

The plot has maaaany twists and turns, and yet, I never felt overwhelmed or had the urge to just sit down and breathe. It literally has everything, every kind of scene that you need or don't know you needed. For example, I didn't think I needed a pov by a horse, but I got it, and it's one of my most cherished things about this story.

I WILL NEVER SHUP UP ABOUT THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED THE PROOFS! I NEED ALL THE SE'S! AND HOLY MOLY WHERE'S MY TV ADAPTION AND THOUSAND FANFICS BECAUSE FOR THE LOVE OF ELPHAME I CANNOT GET A GRIP!!! I LOVE THEM ALL!!!!!!

If you didn't figure it out, The Courting of Bristol Keats is one of my all-time favorites, and I am now crying over the fact that I'll never get to read it for the first time again...And over the fact that I don't have book 2 in my hands...

It has a Waterstones signed exclusive edition, which is soldout as I type it, but do subscribe to be notified if more stock gets available. I will not be canceling my preorder even though it's a November adult monthly pick, so I am basically keeping all the editions of this book. Have I said that I loved it? hehe

I really liked, even loved, the Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson BUT THIS ONE HAS ME IN A CHOKEHOLD. Pearson combines fantasy, adult romance and mystery in this wonderful new adult romantasy The Courting of Bristol Keats.

The story was, from beginning to end, an adventure. I found myself unable to put the book down, eager to discover what would happen next. Pearson's writing style and her accessibility to the characters were wonderfully executed.

Bristol is such a vibrant and strong character whose fate leads her to a dangerous and mysterious world. She meets Tyghan, a dark fae who is not always what he pretends to be and the rest is history. Pearson knows how to write on hell of a love story. The mix of hope, fear, love and suspense - the complexity of it all - makes it compelling to read. This take on an adult romantasy has everything I hoped for. And yes, it has spice but it was not overwhelming and the plot was plotting.

Pearson has once again managed to transport me into her enchanting world. It is a 5 star read for me, easily, as she has the ability to take me into her captivating stories that pull at my heartstrings. She filled the story with vivid imagery and emotions that made my experience wonderful. I cannot wait to see what happens next. What do I have to give her for the second book? A kidney?

Please, please, please - I need book 2 like I need air to breathe.

The Courting of Bristol Keats
by Mary E. Pearson

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Romance, Sci Fi & Fantasy

My first book by this author, but I love fae stories so was keen to try. I Loved It.
It did take a while for me to get into it, it felt a bit confusing at the start but I carried on as as I started to get into the story those first parts then made sense. It'll definitely be a re-reader for me. Its got depth to both the characters and the story, and I'm sure there's lots I've missed that I'll pick up on subsequent reads.
Its a different story from the usual fae romance, with lots of quirks and strange twists and turns. I found that kept me investigated in the story, eager to see what happens next. There's a great mix of characters too, and my opinion of some changed as the story unfolded. I still have no idea which way the story will go, what Bristol will do, how she can get over Tyghan's actions, what will happen with her sisters.....so many unanswered questions. I really wish the next book was out now :-(

Stars: Five, a terrific read, really enjoyed it.

Where do I start?

I haven’t been so obsessed with a fantasy in a long time.

This was the perfect read.
Bristol is this human girl that has lost both her parents. One day someone get in contact with her about some arts.
Because they are in need of money she decides to meet with this mistero person. During this meeting she meets Tyghan.

He’s arrogant and a king in fairyland.
But also he needs her to save his world. So they decide to do a bargain, he’s going to help find her father, who apparently is not dead but just in his world and in exchange she will help him with her “magic”.

Of course one thing lead to another and they fall into each other arms,

This was so good.
The romance
The plot
Chef kiss
