Description

Tomasz is like any other college student in 2093; he struggles with feelings of isolation and does not know how to win over the girl of his dreams. Will joining the gang who is planning one of the greatest crimes in his city's history be his key to connection?

Tomasz, a young college student in the year 2093, is like most people his age. He does not have many friends, spends most of his time in a virtual world, and lives in a society that is so enmeshed in technology that people barely interact with each other. Even though this isolated existence is all he has ever known, Tomasz feels as if he is missing something important in his life, something that would bring him meaning. His one chance at finding any sense of normalcy is in attending his love interest’s musical in a unique and colorful pink tuxedo.

As he prepares for this event he accepts a unique request—to deliver a mysterious package across the city for a large sum of money. Unbeknownst to him, this sets off a chain of events wherein he will go on the run from the police, survive a near-death experience, and come face-to-face with a disreputable group. They inform him of their dangerous plan and present to him a devious offer: go back to his previous life, or join them as they carry out one of the city's greatest crimes.

PINK TUXEDO will appeal to comedy and speculative fiction readers. The central theme of this book is feelings of isolation in an ever more technologically integrated society, and aims to look at this issue through a humorous absurdist lens.

I was taken by the blurb, but not quite sure what to expect. The story starts with a postulate about nothing. But this book is actually quite something. The story pulls you in, where you experience questions about life’s choices, a bit of romance, anarchy against injustice, friends found, the music of love. So like Tomasz (the main character) and me be intrigued, be open to a new experience and have some fun. Thank you to Carlos Diaz and NetGalley for the ARC. *Pink Tuxedo* is a delightful and thought-provoking speculative fiction novel that skillfully blends humor with a sharp critique of our increasing reliance on technology. Set in the year 2093, this comedic adventure follows Tomasz, a young college student navigating a dystopian world where genuine human connections are scarce and virtual realities dominate.

Tomasz's life mirrors that of many young people in this technologically saturated society: he’s isolated, struggles to make meaningful connections, and is fixated on winning over the girl of his dreams. His quest for normalcy and acceptance takes an unexpected turn when he agrees to deliver a mysterious package for a hefty sum. This seemingly innocuous decision plunges him into a whirlwind of adventure, including evading the police, surviving life-threatening situations, and encountering a notorious criminal gang.

The novel’s central theme—loneliness in a hyper-connected world—is explored through a humorous and absurdist lens. Tomasz’s journey is both a literal and metaphorical quest for meaning and connection in an increasingly detached society. The pink tuxedo he wears to his love interest's musical becomes a symbol of his desire to stand out and be noticed, contrasting sharply with the gray, technology-dominated backdrop of his world.

The narrative excels in its satirical portrayal of a future where technology has seeped into every facet of life, leaving little room for genuine human interaction. The comedic elements are skillfully interwoven with the more serious themes, providing a balanced and entertaining read. The absurd situations Tomasz finds himself in—ranging from his run-ins with the police to the outrageous plans of the criminal gang—add a layer of humor that lightens the novel’s more reflective moments.

Tomasz is a relatable and endearing protagonist, whose personal growth and the choices he faces drive the plot forward. His interactions with the eccentric members of the gang and his attempts to navigate the complexities of his society offer both humor and insight. The secondary characters, especially those in the criminal gang, are vividly portrayed, adding to the novel’s richness and depth.

*Pink Tuxedo* stands out for its creative blend of comedy and speculative fiction. The author’s ability to use humor to explore serious themes makes for an engaging and thought-provoking read. The futuristic setting provides a fresh perspective on contemporary issues, making the novel relevant and engaging for readers interested in both speculative fiction and social commentary.

Overall, *Pink Tuxedo* is a captivating and entertaining novel that combines a humorous take on the future with a poignant examination of isolation and connection in a tech-driven world. It’s a must-read for fans of speculative fiction who enjoy their narratives with a side of wit and insight.

This book offers a fun and insightful take on our tech-obsessed world. Tomasz’s adventure in a pink tuxedo mixes humor with a sharp look at loneliness and connection. It’s relatable in how it captures the quest for real connections in a digital age, making it both entertaining and thought-provoking.

Pink tuxedo was a good read! It had a good mix of humor and wonder when thinking about a future with so much technology and AI. The AI character was fun, I enjoyed that. I like how it covered some deeper topics like loneliness and fitting in.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers, and especially the author for this ARC in exchange for my honest review of the book!!

I'm going to admit that I was unsure if this book was going to be one that I would enjoy after reading the first few pages, although it was interesting it didn't seem like my kind of book. I had some doubts, but I continued reading and I'm happy to say I loved the journey Tomasz was sent on. It captivated me, it made me sit back and think of my own life and it made me want to keep reading to figure out what would happen to him and all of the people he came across in the span of just a few hours.

By the end I found myself smiling for him, because he found his community and his purpose. That's what all of us yearn to find in our own lives and knowing he was finally able to find where he belongs made me happy.

I'm grateful I was chosen as one of the readers as it was definitely a thought-provoking and intriguing experience. One that I won't soon forget.
