Lyla and Mason are co-CEOs of a toy company, but Lyla has pinned Mason as her enemy since the day he came with 51% of the company’s shares. They butt heads at every decision, including the one to cancel the annual Christmas party. Lyla has it anyway and a fire breaks out, closing the offices over Christmas. As punishment for this, Mason convinces her to come home to visit his family, only she doesn’t know he’s an actual Klaus of the North Pole kind.

Mason’s family of characters are well-written, and perhaps even too well-written, as I found Mrs. Klaus and Mason’s siblings to be far more entertaining and charming than the two main characters. Lyla and Mason’s enemies to lovers story was at times hard to follow. I also couldn’t get a good read of Lyla as a character until halfway through the book.

Overall I thought it was a charming story with a fun twist on the North Pole and Santa.

I don’t know why this book doesn’t have a higher rating. I absolutely LOVED this book. I was so sad when it ended I immediately TBR’ed the next book in the series and started reading another book by Callaghan.

In this novel we follow Lyla and Mason. They are work rivals where he falls first. When Mason receives a letter from his sister informing him his father died and he should come home for Christmas, he asks Lyla to come as a friend. However, he immediately introduces her as his fiancée. With a bit of magic, this book has many twists and turns that will put you in the Christmas spirit.

I will be the first to admit I didn’t know there would be magic realism in this book. I’m a huge fan of magical realism when it is done properly (think Ashley Poston, Andrea Lochen, and Sarah Ready), and this magic was sheer perfection.

I have so many things I could name that I loved about this book: the setting, the characters, the slow enemies to lovers vibes, and all the Christmas things.

I loved that Santa Claus wasn’t the cliche Santa. The spin on this was so unique. Chef’s kiss!

The only thing that could have improved this novel was a bigger gap between the third act breakup and them making up. Sure I was jumping in my seat when they got back together but it was a bit too quick. Otherwise, I loved this book and can’t wait to dive back into this world.

I fell into the North Pole (Yule) with ease thanks to the supremely simple world building this book affords. I honestly loved the Yule portion of this book more than the opening that took place in the real world. I fell in love with the found family and can't wait to revisit the Village in future books. The romance in this was everything. I loved it. They really take center stage. It’s all about them together and separately. They have such a great enemies-to-lovers relationship. They butt heads, and it never stops.
The Christmas magic was such a great element to the story. It added some mystery to how everything works. The Christmas element felt more of a setting than a Santa Clause-focused story, like many Christmastime movies. Which is great! I liked that it didn’t overtake their story; it was just a part of it.

Oh, I would have loved for Natalie to have a little more consequences. She needs her comeuppance.

Lyla is part of a family that has run a toy company for generations. She inherits a bankrupt company and no shares, and must resign herself to helping run the company with a corporate, no-nonsense type named Mason. The two do not hit it off, and are at odds about numerous aspects of the company's culture and mission. Mason decides to cancel the Christmas party, and in turn Lyla keeps the party on - but then, a terrible fire results from the party. Mason offers her a deal - he will forget what happened, but she must join his family for numerous days of Christmas festivities. Lyla agrees, in the hopes of figuring out how she can get the company back - but then, Mason introduces her as his fiancé, which upends everything.

I just loved the descriptions in this book; the scene setting was really superb, and I felt like I was present. Plus, I loved the twist of Mason's family! Read the book to understand more!!

This was such a cute Christmas love story. I didn’t want to put it down at all…and it had me in a Christmas mood in September. This is definitely one to pick up when you’re looking for that Christmas feel.

This book has it all - a Christmas story, more than a bit of magic, enemies to lovers, corporate jealousy, a grieving family brought back together and a nasty former girlfriend.

It reminded me a fair bit of The Santa Clause movies, except for the sexy parts. I enjoyed it a lot.

A cute and cozy Christmas love story, this was such a great book that put me in the mood for eggnog and Christmas ornaments! The writing was great and you can't go wrong with an enemies-to-lovers trope.

Oh what a fun Christmas fantasy read! I truly enjoyed the romance though not like the Hallmark movies but cute enough to say “aww.” I was not expecting the special trip to Yule (the North Pole) but I was my favorite part especially with the amazing descriptions, I wanted to be there!

Mason agrees to forget about what happened if Layla will go with him to his family home for Christmas.
Layla agrees, but his home is not at all what she expected and Mason is a totally different person there. As the magic of the village and the warmth of Manson’s family wrap themselves around her, Layla finds herself having to make a decision she never expected to face.
This is a lovely book, full of the warmth and magic of Christmas. So, follow Layla and embrace the village of Yule.

I was looking for a light hearted book to while away a few hours. I saw this on one NetGalley and was lucky enough to get it.

It's the first book I've read by Kate Callaghan, but I'll look out for more of her books. Lyla runs her grandfather's business, making toys for the Christmas Market. The business isn't doing very well and her father (off on his 4th honeymoon) sells 51% of the shares to Mason Klaus, who comes along like the proverbial hatchet man. When Lyla finds out that Mason has cancelled the Christmas party, she decides to give the staff a party, paid for by herself. However, it doesn't go smoothly and Mason is able to blackmail her into helping him, by going to his village as his fiance.

What happens is the enemy's to lovers scenario, but set in a fabulous backdrop of Masons village. A great cosy, feel good read, one I'll reread nearer Christmas as I love stories about Christmas.

Break out the hot cocoa and mistletoe! This book puts you in the Christmas spirit with a lovely story that is whimsical and romantic. The characters are well done and the story unique. This was such a cute rom-com! I love all things Christmas, holidays and the season.

Lyla and Mason unfortunately have to work together and he is her new supervisor. What Lyla doesn't know is that Mason is St Nick JR and is from the North Pole. This book gives you the warm and fuzzy vibes and I enjoyed getting to know all about the "fantasy" North Pole. This was a cute and quick read but not much spice. It was more banter and sizzle like you could tell they were getting to like each other and hinted at this. If you like cozy and Christmas vibes this is a cute story that you will enjoy.

The Naughty or Nice Clause is a delightful holiday romance that brings warmth, charm, and a touch of magic to the festive season. Kate Callaghan crafts a fun and engaging story with quirky characters, witty dialogue, and just the right amount of holiday cheer. The slow-burn romance between the leads is heartwarming, showing how right they can be for one another, and the unique twist on the Santa Claus legend adds an enchanting layer to the plot.

The characters were easily loveable and Callaghan's writing showed the family spirit between the Klauses and how they welcomed Lyla with open arms. However, I feel like the last couple of chapters were a little rushed and that their argument which resulted in her leaving was resolved a bit quick. I think we could have done with a bit of dual pov on seeing Mason and his family after Lyla had to leave Yule and seeing what they said to him to go get her back.

While some parts felt a bit predictable, it's a perfect cozy read to get you in the Christmas spirit!

Lyla and Klaus have been work rivals since he bought her father's share of her family company a year ago. Furious that he has decided to cancel this year's Christmas party, she decides to change plans and have a party in the office. During the party, Lyla finds Klaus in his office drunk after finding out that his estranged father has passed away. Now his sister has asked him to return home and he plans to go through with it. Lyla noticing how drunk he is decides to help him get home since she couldn't in good conscience leave him there drunk. But in doing this leaves the office party unattended and that has unexpected consequences. Since Klaus is paying for the damage from the party, he says that Lyla has to accompany him home to be even. When she arrives at his home, she finds out that home is the North Pole, or Yule, and that she has been working with Santa Claus' son all this time. Lyla finds out more and more about Mason Klaus, which changes her opinion of him and has her falling for him unexpectedly. It was a fun, inventive and interesting read. I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down when I got started with it.

Lyla is forced to share her portion of her father's inherited company with Mason Klaus, an investor that is known for being chilly and uncaring socially when it comes to how he runs his company. I mean, how could you argue the goodness of anyone who schedules work meetings for the Christmas holiday? Truly and unfortunately so yucky and shameful. Of course, these two cannot stand each other- it is evident that not many can withstand Klaus, per the entire premise of this book of course.
The Christmas party is CANCELED- but Lyla says no, we're partying regardless. Then- a fire erupts! Literally and emotionally, corporately etc. Mason promises her forgiveness on one condition- she follows along with his family to celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas. She agrees, reluctantly, but is immediately introduced as his fiancee. What is the cost if she doesn't follow along with his ruse? This is a certified HEA, and it is indeed lovely.
The characters are so cute- I LOVE the grumpy/ sunshine trope, even for a reader who typically never chooses romance. As Christmas is my favorite, I love cozying up with one as soon as the weather gets cool enough in my southern state to do so. The romance aspect left some to be desired, ,so I am rating this a four. The premise is unique, fun, delightful, and the town is so charming and cozy to me.

This was a really cute, quick read, Christmas romance. A simple, feel-good story for a little boost of holiday spirit.

As co-owners of a toy company, Lyla and Mason are total opposites that constantly clash in the workplace. When Mason unexpectedly asks Lyla for help when he needs to visit his family, she reluctantly agrees with no idea of what she's getting herself into.

A fairly decent Christmas themed tale. More enemies to lovers than romance so if you like that trope you’d be into it. Found family, squabbling exes, strange magic. This book has a lot in one package. My only gripe would be the tiny amount of spice in the book was awkward and seemed forced rather than natural and romantic.

I can't believe I missed out on “The Naughty or Nice Clause” when it first came out! Where was I? Now that I’ve finally read it, I can wholeheartedly say it was worth the wait.

The story follows Mason Klaus, a man estranged from his magical hometown of Yule. After leaving years ago to build his own life in the city, he’s forced to return home for the Christmas season following his father’s passing. To make matters more interesting, Mason asks his co-CEO and professional rival, Lyla Smurfit, to join him in Yule — despite the complications that bringing an outsider to this enchanted town might cause.

Lyla has never been particularly fond of Mason. Since the day he stepped into her family’s business, she’s viewed him as an insufferable opponent who constantly challenges her decisions. Yet, when Mason pleads for her to accompany him to Yule during this difficult time, she reluctantly agrees. What follows is a heartwarming journey where the festive magic of Yule, and the Christmas season itself, start to reveal the layers beneath their icy professional relationship. I wish I’d discovered this book sooner! I’ve always been a fan of brooding, mysterious male characters whose cold exterior slowly melts when the right person enters their life. Mason fits this mold perfectly — he’s protective of Lyla, and while they often clash over business and personal choices, he is quick to forgive and is always looking out for her well-being.

One of the more profound aspects of the book is its exploration of familial responsibilities and how they can sometimes conflict with personal dreams. This theme is deeply relatable, as many readers will empathize with the challenge of balancing obligations to loved ones while staying true to their own ambitions.

Felt very very much like a spicy hallmark movie, which isn't always my vibe but for a cute mood read this is the perfect place to look. The forced office enemies to lovers is written SO well and its a classic bundle of xmas joy vs the grinch himself. I love that it ends with a nice HEA. Lyla is a very well written independent traumatized FMC against Mason, a very grumpy scrooge. It was hard for me to put down I wanted to soak up the holiday vibes.

Such a cute festive story and as I say NEVER too early for a festive read even in an Indian summer.

This was a fun, quick read. Lyla a lover of Christmas (same here) she is the daughter of a retired Chief Executive of a toy company. She was supposed to recieve shares in this toy company but bah humbug her father leaves these to Mason Klaus - who surprise surprises loathes the festive season.

Things get worse as Mason cancels the companys Christmas party! but in another twist Lyla decides to spend the festive season with his family!! in another twist she is transported to a village called Yule.

I liked the almost magical vibes here- they end up in Yule, which is basically the North Pole. And Mason has some… ties to being Santa. Lyla has to pretend they are engaged to be able to stay. Like, what a fun premise!

The town of Yule was so cute. I could almost picture it. I loved how welcoming his family (and most of the town) was to Lyla. She also as able to help Mason get through the struggles of losing his father and taking up a new position.

Oh, what a wintery read! The Naughty or Nice Clause by Kate Callaghan is the first novel in the enticing new Village of Yule series.
As you would expect from a romantic-comedy there are plenty of humorous moments, especially when Lyda meets Mason's family and has to pretend to be his fiancée- no stress, eh?
Also, I loved the descriptions of Yule, as it is truly the village of my dreams. Honestly, as I was in my perfect dreamworld while reading this book. The author creates such a brilliant vision of Yule.
The Naughty or Nice Clause does work well as a standalone, but I'm sure that all readers (just like myself), will look forward to making the return journey to Yule in "Tis The Season For Secrets", which is out in November.

I really enjoyed this book! The characters and the plot are very well written and the story was interesting and thought out well. I would definitely recommend this book to my audience and friends.

Secondly, and most importantly: this book was wonderful. I loved the switch of a Klaus being a fuddy-duddy during the Christmas holidays, only to take over a big corporate business and find romance along the way.

Lyla was a strong character I really connected with. I loved how we got to see her own grief mirrored in Mason, and how he slowly opened himself up while he was home. Though I didn't like him at first, he definitely grew on me, and I was rooting for them by the end of the novel. I also really enjoyed, as other reviewers have pointed out, the LGBT+ representation and the disability representation. It was unexpected but wholly sat as a piece of the text, rather than a one-off or "tokenism."

Overall, such a good romance with strong characters and a good plot, one I devoured in a few days. However, I'd be mindful that it does talk about parental death and estranged/strained familial relationships for both characters.

I thought this book was super cute and had all the holiday feels that I love! I'm excited that this book is the first in a series, because I also love a great series! I also appreciated the LGBTQIA+ representation, bringing this story to our current times, which was refreshing. Kudos to the author!

This was a perfect sweet festive story. It had everything you could possibly want in a Christmas book. It follows Mason and Lyla. Working together at a toy company when Mason gets word of a death in his family. Mason tricks Lyla into coming home with him for the holiday as his fake fiancé. There’s twists, turns, sweet and spicy and even a bit of magic. It was so fun to be in the world of Yule and get all he feelings of Christmas that you sometimes loose as an adult.

Mason now owns the majority share of Lyla's family's toy company- and she could not be more frustrated by their differing managerial styles. Soon, though, the two end up in the magical village of Yule together, faking an engagement, while Lyla learns about the Clauses, the town, and Mason himself.

The story is lighthearted and silly. There's not much depth, but there are twinkles of Christmas magic. It was a fun read-even in early September-and I most enjoyed the family dynamics.

Did I read this book in damn near 80 degree weather? Yes. Did I eat it up and wish for Christmas? Also YES. 🧑‍🎄🎄💚

The rivals --> lovers trope will eat EVERY TIME for me and this was so fun. ALSO fake dating (engagement) is one of my favs also so you know I was gonna have a good time.
This story was actually so cute, funny, and had such an original plot! I loved it. There was definitely some depth missing and there was just some things that left me wanting more, but overall I had a great time. Mason and Lyla had incredible tension, banter, and cuteness. I loved it.

This is like the Polar Express for Romance Fans. Instead of a train, there is a bell magically transporting people. And instead of wolves prowling by a train, that hint of danger comes from the Christmas People themselves! No one is supposed to know about them unless they’re part of the community.

Fun story that took me in an unexpected direction.

I was expecting a lot more spice but it was still very nice

Lyla has always dreamed of taking over her family toy company. But when her father retires and sells his shares to Klaus, the biggest scrooge, she can’t help but hate him- especially when he cancels the staff Christmas party without talking to her. Determined to keep the spirit alive, she decides to throw it anyway, but when she finds him drunk and upset in his office, she sneaks him out early and the office catches fire.

With the office closed, and Klaus needing to return home for his father’s funeral, he brings her with him in exchange for forgiving her part in the office fire. To her shock, he introduces her as his fiance. With the risk of the truth being found out having her memory wiped, Lyla realizes she might be able to use this as leverage to get her company back, but when a kiss leads to her wanting more, maybe Klaus isn’t the Scrooge she initially thought he was.

A perfect holiday read for those who love enemies to lovers x fake dating x magical location x he falls first.

This is the type of Christmas movie I wish Hallmark was making. The North Pole or “Yule” setting was wonderfully set up and dazzlingly described. Both main characters were fun to get to know and characteristics and flaws that can be relatable to most readers. Yule reminded me so much of Schitt’s Creek, in the way that it’s a small town with a crazy cast of characters who support each other when the going gets tough. I cannot wait to venture back to Yule in Kate Callaghan’s next book.

Oh I love the Christmas season and this book gave me all the feeling of it, Lyla is co-CEO of a toy company being Mr. Klaus. the majority shareholder has all the power to make changes, changes that Lyla doesn't like, and one in particular is the one that makes her pretend to be "engaged" in front of his family, Klaus (Mason) is like a Christmas Grinch, but he has his reasons and when he takes Lyla to Yule, a magical Christmas town hidden between the mountains of the North Pole, everything makes sense (let's see, without giving you spoilers, I think it's obvious, right? ), especially when they want him to take the place of her father, with whom he did not have a good relationship. The story of this couple is like a love-hate relationship between these two because they become friends but they still have that kind of surly attitude between them, I liked the scenes between the two of them, I liked his family giving a good welcome to Lyla. There is a bit of drama, but it doesn't take away from how nice it was, a light read, perfect for the Christmas season (let's see, I want to live in this town, please).

The characters felt really real, I totally understood their reasoning for the things they do.

An enjoyable festive read to cosy down with. The description of the town of Yule was possibly my favourite bit - I would definitely like to live there myself. There was some nice diversity of characters - his sister being in a same-sex relationship for example. However it was a bit ridiculous that Klaus 'magicked' Lyla to a snowy place in her pjs!

This was a fun book to read! Read it just in time for the weather to start getting cold, which was the perfect time. Very nice and cozy story with whimsical Christmas town shenanigans, a grumpy MMC and there's a cat!

The Naughty or Nice Clause by Kate Callaghan is a playful holiday read with a lighthearted blend of romance and Christmas magic. The story brings festive cheer and a few fun twists, making it a nice pick for those looking for an easy, feel-good escape. While it follows familiar holiday tropes, it’s still a fun and cozy read for the season.

Kate Callaghan's novel, "The Naughty or Nice Clause", is a true Christmas tale that draws the reader into a romantic story through snow-covered landscapes and festive magic. The book's protagonist, Lyla Smurfit, is a character who is easy to like, even if you don't agree with all her decisions. Lyla's actions are rooted in deep human emotions, past disappointments or a sense of responsibility for her family – this makes her relatable and human to the readers.

Much to her surprise and disappointment, the toy manufacturing company that has been in Lyla's family for generations will not be hers after her father's retirement, but falls into the hands of a cold and distant investor, Mason Klaus. Kate Callaghan masterfully captures the idyll of a festive village where the magic of Christmas is more tangible than ever. This Christmas atmosphere provides the perfect backdrop for romance and enchants the reader as if they were part of the story. The author skilfully blends humour, romance and the wonders of Christmas, which is why the book can warm hearts not only during the holidays, but also anytime you read it.

I went into this blind other than I picked it as a request on NetGalley wanting another holiday read. I LOVED this short holiday novella.

Enemies to lovers, and a fake engagement in a magical Christmas village with the heir to the Santa Clause legacy. Lyla and Mason are co-owners of Lyla’s father’s toy company, and they absolutely despise each other. After a Christmas party at the office, thrown by Layla against Mason’s orders, ends up in flames. Mason pays off the damages in exchange for Laylas help in returning to his hometown to help his own family business after his father has just passed away. Lyla agrees and to her surprise, it turns out Mason is from a hidden village in the mountains where his father was Santa Clause and his family runs the holiday season. Throw in the fact that bringing any outsiders, outside of marriage is against the law, Layla is also blindsided by Masons announcement that they are engaged, and has no choice but to agree and hope no one finds out they’re lying. A modern take on the Santa clause job but sprinkled with a little magic, Mason has to decide whether or not he’s going to take over his father’s duties and if he’ll stay, but he can’t do it alone. Layla is his buffer and foothold on the outside world so he can make an unbiased decision. But Layla loves Christmas, and since her own mother’s passing when she was child, this is the first time she’s felt a real sense of family in years. Falling in love with this magical place and helping his family heal through their grief was easy, but falling in love with Mason in the process was unexpected. Especially since the truth about their engagement threatens Laylas stay and her memories.

The pace was well set, slightly slow burn romance. I loved the holiday festivities and scenery. The gingerbread baking competition was one of my favorite scenes although personally, I would have thrown hands!The arguing into flirting is always fun. But I’m docking a star because the third act breakup was unnecessary and felt really rushed. Everything was building up nicely and then BAM! Romance takes a hard drive just for it to come back up and the story end within pages. Overall, I loved this story, and it looks like another standalone is coming in this series, and I’ll be keeping my eyes out for it!

This was a cute read. It gave hallmark christmas vibes, and I loved that. This was a great idea for a book and I'm glad I read this.

I liked the FMC. She was confident and tough when needed, but it was realistic. The MMC did some growing through the book, and that was nice to read.

I'm not a fan on the 3rd act break up. I also think that it was a quick ending.

I'm hoping book 2 will let the readers see these two again.

Kate Callaghan loves to make you fight with the characters to get their heads out of their behinds to see what everyone else sees. We follow Lyla who is dealing with the vacuum that was left behind in the wake of her grandfather’s death, her father’s 4th marriage and a guy named Mason Klaus who now has majority shares in her company she was sent to inherit. One thing leads to another where fate has them transported to where Mason grew up. There is a fine line between hate and love and the power when you let love take over for hate. If you love a good hallmark movie with a touch more spice this is a book for you. I absolutely loved this festive romance! Lyla thinks Mason is out to ruin and take her family business away from her, but Mason hides a magical secret that will throw them together in a whirlwind of Christmas romance. Both have suffered the loss of a parent and the pressure of keeping their respective family businesses running smoothly is not an easy task. Once Mason whisks Lyla away to his family home they begin to realise that they might just be what each other needs, and they could have their Christmas dreams come true if they are able to navigate the obstacles thrown in their way.

This is a very cute holiday read! ❤️ It has fake dating tropes that I love but it just took a minute to get going. All in all I enjoyed it and would recommend for a good Christmas read.

Warning: This review may contain strawberries! Let me kick off with one flaw: why did it have to end so soon?! I absolutely LOVED the chemistry between Lyla and Mason—finally, an 'enemies to lovers' that does it right! The tension between them? Sizzling hot. This is the perfect combination of sweet, sexy, and sultry for the holidays! Lyla throws a Christmas party. There’s a fire. Mason agrees to forget her part in said fire if she joins his family for Christmas… and it turns out he lives at the North Pole and is next in line to be Santa Claus. A brilliant festive read for getting in the Christmas mood! From start to finish, I was completely enchanted. Both Lyla and Mason are very well-rounded characters, and they have great chemistry. The Naughty or Nice Clause, by Kate Callaghan, is the first of the ongoing Village of Yule series. if you love all things Christmas (especially hallmark-like stories), this is a great series for you! Callaghan takes the Christmas tales we all know and puts a bit of a different spin on them, and then swirls this all with a bit of romance for the win. I read through this one evening and went right on to the next one. Tis the Season for Secrets is the second in the series and is also a fun holiday read.  While it can be read as a stand-alone, why would you want to?  I recommend reading them in order. General Thoughts: This is the second book I've read by this author. I don't read many holiday books, but I'm trying to change that this year. This was a cute one. It felt similar to many Christmas movies I've read. Guy is reluctant to fill dad's shoes, but then dad dies, and he has to decide whether he'll do so. But oh wait, there are some romantic entanglements there. This was a cute, fun, enjoyable story. If you like cute, enjoyable stories, this is a fun one.

The Naughty Or Nice Clause is actually the first book in the Village of Yule series but is a stand alone story and has a guaranteed happy ever after!

I absolutely love Christmas books they are my favourite genre and i must admit that i read them all year around! So, when i came across this book and read the blurb i was instantly hooked!

I loved this book and straight away i got sucked in to all its Christmassy goodness.

The writing was perfect and i honestly felt i was there in the North Pole surrounded by all the snow!

This was a wonderful, cosy, heartwarming, slow burn romance and i loved it…..

I want to start by thanking the author and publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. I really enjoyed this book and felt like the storyline was completely unique. I loved it!

This book was so cute and such a cozy read. I really enjoyed the holiday vibes and the charming characters and the Clause family dynamic.

I do wish there had been a little more at the end—it felt like it wrapped up too quickly around the romance. Overall, a fun and sweet story perfect for the holidays!!

I’m excited to read the next book!

I absolutely loved this book! It has all the good Christmas feels and vibes! It’s such a great plot as well! I love this Christmas story and think it’s perfect to get you in the holiday jam!

Lyla's co-CEO at her family's toy company is the ultimate grinch (right down to cancelling the company's Christmas party).

But when Mason convinces her to accompany him back to his hometown, Yule, she learns the grinch is really a Claus...and that he perhaps might be the man of her dreams rather than her nightmares.

A new take on Santa and the North Pole that has a slightly more modern and realistic feel, without losing the magic of Christmas.

Side note: Lyla needs to learn to wear shoes.

A solid 3.5 star Christmas rom-com with some real holiday magic. This will contain spoilers.

Give me a good work rivals to lovers any dang day! The tension that we see as outsiders that is obviously being missed by one or both main characters is always squeal and little leg flutters inducing.

What a delightful little take on the role of Santa Claus and the North Pole. Definitely creative way to portray the holiday myths many of us grew up with. Though I do think Henry could have been less of an ass out in the “real world” with Lyla and her family company. But we wouldn’t have gotten a surprise adventure to Yule and a fake-engagement if he (and/or her father) had been more honest about his role in the company from the get go. Without any real facts or details it’s not surprise to me at all that Lyla felt betrayed and hostile to the person coming in and seemingly plowing through her family legacy with a bull dozer.

I do wish we had gotten a little more in depth on Henry’s feelings but what we see from him is the reaction he has to others. I would have really enjoyed a peak into his POV some more. I loved his family dynamic, even after his long 10 years away they were simply happy to have him home but you could feel and see the undercurrents of challenging and conflicting emotions at the same time. I hope we get more family and village time as we continue to explore Yule.

My biggest beef is how is everyone so blasé about Natalie committing attempted murder and grand larceny and physical assault?!?! Kevin can’t be the only person in Yule that sees Natalie and realizes she’s completely unhinged. I very much do not want her to get any sort of redemption in the future, I want her true colors exposed and her actions punished. I don’t want all gumdrops and lollipops she’s moved on and seen the error of her ways and look she finds love and is magically not a felony-committing person.

What I really did appreciate is the emotional back and forth Lyla went though, especially at the end, when deciding her future. I’m so glad it was more compromised, both her and Henry vowing to put in the effort to be together despite apparent difficulties. It’s always nice to see characters, especially women, who do want to keep their own agency and not simply become an extension of the man. Lyla’s family business matters tremendously to her and I was so glad she didn’t have to give it up to also have love and happiness and magic.

AHHHHHHHHH! I Love a good cozy Christmas story. I very much enjoyed the twist this game on the North Pole and Santyyyy Clause, Hands down a 4.5 star read for me.

Such a lovely Christmas feelgood story, not my usual genre but I took a chance on a magical romance title from the same author and really enjoyed it, so went for this one too. To be honest, it had me at cosy and Christmas. Perfect for a hot chocolate and a rest after present wrapping, the romance is nicely done and leaves the author with a warm happy glow but also a hankering for the upcoming number two in the series.

I adored this 100%. Enemies to lovers. Found family. The magic found in a Hallmark movie. This had everything and a twist on Christmas and the North Pole. I enjoyed all of the characters immensely and the world-building was phenomenal. This book is a guaranteed way to begin getting out of Grinchville and into the holiday spirit.

Oh how I swoon for an a work rival romance! It’s one trope that I will run to any given day. So sign me up.

Anyway, I was a bit apprehensive to begin this book as I am a literal scrooge, Christmas is not my kind of thing. BUT, Christmas in this book is done amazingly well. It took the fascinations of children and showed them in such a creative way, Callaghan really did do a fantastic job with that.

Now, the Christmas theme is strong in this one but I’m not gonna mark it down because that’s just rude considering the title, cover and even blurb say CHRISTMAS GALORE. But if you love a little Christmas romance then this is for you.

Although, I did very much enjoy the different take on Santa and the north pile, it was actually quite cute and extremely different to most Christmas romance books out there. So because Callaghan has made this a different sort of Christmas romance, I feel no way about going and reading Tis The Season For Secrets (book 2).

Loved this book and will continue to recommend over Christmas, and beyond.

This book is amazing and full of Christmas magic! It had me hooked from the start. The story follows Lyla who works side by side with the grumpy Mason at her family’s toy company. Lyla is upset because when her father retired and left the toy company basically bankrupt he decides to give his shares to Mason. He is a popular investor that should hopefully be able to dig them out of the hole they are in. Lyla however gets her grandfathers shares and that makes her and Mason partners. Even though they disagree on everything they have no choice but to work together. When Mason cancels the company’s Christmas party Lyla decides enough is enough and decides to throw it anyway. When the party ends with a fire and all the blame on Lyla for throwing the party Mason decides to offer her a deal. Spend the Christmas season with the Klaus family and he will forget the whole thing. But when they arrive and he begins to introduce her as his fiancée she is shocked but has no choice but to go along with it. Can Lyla make it through the season without falling in love with her fake fiancée?

I love this book so much I want to cry. This book is everything I ever wanted in a book. The enemies to lovers, the fake dating, the Christmas f-ing village. Don't even get me started on Mason. I want t say everything yet nothing at all because that's how good it is. I'm speechless.

The chemistry between Layla and Mason was perfect. They're exact opposite of each other but they work so well together. The flirting and banter between them made me and laugh gave me butterflies throughout the whole book. I'm even in love with Mason's family as well. They welcomed Layla into their family so much and Kevin even though was putting distance between him and Layla, he even opened up to her.

Out of all characters, I have to say Mason is my favourite. The way he looks after Layla's company honestly was justified and kept everyone in check including Layla. He seemed so cold in the beginning but my god!!!! He is one of the best book boyfriends out there.

This was sweet, and funny. Magically different than your typical holiday romance. Rival co-owners of a company, one with a magical secret identity. Great ending with a happily ever after.

Such a cute book! this was my second Kate Callaghan book that I have read and I LOVE her writing style, I couldn't put this down! How she wrote the witty characters and described the christmassy goodness, beautiful, I could really picture it (read blurb I ain't spoiling shit)

Not to spoil the whole book but a modern twist on Santa Claus? you best believe it.

The Naughty Or Nice Clause by Kate Callaghan is the perfect holiday read, blending festive cheer with magical realism. This is the second book I’ve read by Callaghan this year, and I’ve loved both! She has a knack for writing incredibly cozy stories that never feel overdone. Her books are well-crafted, with easy-to-follow plots that are really entertaining.

In “The Naughty Or Nice Clause,” Christmas magic takes on a whole new meaning with a sprinkle of real magic. The main characters, Lyla and Mason, are wonderful, and even the side characters shine brightly in this story. There’s plenty of humor, which I really appreciate, and the playful banter in the romance between Lyla and Mason is delightful. This book definitely features the rivals-to-lovers trope.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it if you’re looking for an extra magical Christmas read this year.

Reading this book was like entering a magic wonderland. I was overwelmed and amazed and I just couldn't put this story down. I loved it!
This little bit of christmas magic was just what I needed. 

At first I didn't even imagine the road this story was about to take. I believed that the Klaus name was just that, and that it had a meaning because the story was being set at christmas time. I'm so happy I was wrong! That magic happening and turning this book into a fantasy and magic story was a big and surely nice surprise that made me enjoy it even more. 
At first Lyla and Mason were great enemies. They work at the same company, and share (but not equally) the ownership. They could not be more different or appart. While Lyla is all warmth and kind Mason is strict and kind of cold. While she loves chistmas and all it implies, he is kind of a Scrooge. 
I could relate easily to both main characters. Lyla had so much on the line, and feeling left out and being pushed aside from the legacy she so much wanted hurt and made her resent Mason. Mason never wanted to be at odds, but he wasn't one to stand down so he gave as much or maybe more than he get. 
There sure is a thin line between love and hate, and with such stong emotions so many things can change. 
So when he takes her to his home magic town and they have to spend time together, and really getting to know one another, some things start to shift and some of that hate starts do disolve and turn into something else. 

The Village of Yule is somewhere where I wouldn't mind to get lost from time to time. All that close community and all the friendship and support they have for each other was heartwarming
And who never dreamed to go see santa clause and his hometown and see how they make the magic of christmas come true?
I can't wait to get lost in this Village and this world again.

this book was magical and the perfect quick holiday read. I fell in love with the town of Yule and the members of the Klaus family immediately and this book just warmed my heart. It was so cute and cozy, whilst also dealing with the loss of a loved one and their grieving.
If you’re a fellow Christmas lover like me, this book is a must read. I can’t wait to return to Yule and read the second book of this series. <3

This was such a cute Christmas Romance! Lyla and Mason start out hating each other, but over time they came to their senses. Majority of the story takes place in Yule (the North Pole). Yule is a charming, cozy, Christmas town with a little bit of magic. Definitely my favorite Christmas setting! The author created her own version of Christmas magic and I actually really liked it!

I did find the beginning of the story to be a bit slow. But once Yule came into play, I had a great time. I definitely recommend this holiday read!

Lyla’s has worked for her father at their toy factory her whole life and when he sells 51% of the company to Mason Klaus with the condition that the two of them be CO-CEO’s she is furious. Butting heads at every turn, Lyla considers Mason the ultimate Grinch and when he cancels the company Christmas party, well that’s the last straw! Confronting him about the party does no good but Lyla is going to do whatever it takes to make sure their company does have its annual party. Even if she has to arrange and pay for it herself!

The magical village and its wonderful residents can only soften her heart. Can the magic of Christmas make their pretend romance real and can he save Christmas and be the Mr. Klaus they all love?

I must say it took me no time at all to read this one. Easy to read and quite enjoyable this is a book about a real fantasy and does take you on a journey. It takes you from a real world to that of a fantastical Christmas wonderland.

With good characters who you can relate to at least a little bit this is a story that evolves and it is a Christmas story (I love Christmas!). It has its fun, its quirks and even some magic and it wasn't an over-the-top romantic read.

Enjoyable, fun, naughty and nice, Christmas and a wonderland. What more could you want. And easy read!

This was such a fun read!! I love the idea of a Yule village and it reminded me of the North Pole from the Santa Clause movies, which made the whole vibe of the book very nostalgic as I read through. The characters do a great job of moving the story along, and I loved the 2 main characters a lot! The whole enemies to lover trope is my favorite, and I love how their story played out. My favorite was the ending, and I love how neither Lyla nor Mason had to compromise their dreams and futures to be together!

A great way to start the season!

This is book one of this series, told in third person POV and leaves you with a HEA. This book is a good way to remind you that not everything is as it seems.

I liked Lyla and her determination to take over her family business. There were a few times I wanted to shake some sense into her when she thought of herself as a strong person, just to turn around and fold under the slightest bit of pressure. Although I did like that she could give as good as she got the other times she wasn’t folding under the pressure. I wasn’t a fan of Mason and how he talked to the people around him for most of the book. But as the story progressed and I got more of his history and saw the way he slowly started opening up and showing his true self under his hard exterior, he wasn’t so bad. I loved the side characters as well, their love and support for friends and family was great. I do wish that we got to see if Lyla chose to eventually take over her family business or if she decided to fully stay with Mason and his family.

This was so cute! It was definitely a feel good read, I was rooting for them the whole time Mason and Lyla were so perfect for each other! Kevin might be my favorite character though he was full of teenage sass!!

Lyla throws a Christmas party. There’s a fire. Mason agrees to forget her part in said fire if she joins his family for Christmas… and it turns out he lives at the North Pole and is next in line to be Santa Claus. Kind of left that last part out. The beginning of the book took a little while to get going and I wasn’t sure this one was going to hold my interest, but once we good to Yule (the North Pole), I was totally sucked in. I loved the descriptions of the cobblestone streets, the cocoa, the wolves that protect the town, and all the snow. I loved the conflict of how Mason Klaus ran away from Yule because he was next in line to be Santa and wanted to have some control over his own life rather than being forced to follow in the family business. This was a cute Christmas read! 5/5 stars.

I love a cheesy Hallmark movie, so I thought I might like this one - and I did! It made me excited to get into the holiday season and the touch of fantasy was, pardon me, the perfect touch.

First of I have to tell you that this is the starting book of a series..... And after reading it I am sooo happy its gonna be a series.
This book was adorable, I loved it sooo much.
So First we have the enemies, working together trope then it makes a huge change to an unbelievable magical world.
These 2 (Mason and Lyla) reminded me soooo much of the couple in The Hating Game. There was sooo much sass, bickering and ohmygosh the flirting. So much fun to watch and be apart of their lives. You really start to feel and love these 2.
Now for Mason's family ohmy they are awesome and a great part of this book. Each are so special in their own way.
Then you have Natalie who you will dislike and are gonna have to read about how horrible she is.
Loved that there is so much Holiday vibes in this book.
The author wrote this book so well, I couldn't put it down. Literally read it a day.
Cant wait for the 2nd book in the series comes out and takes me back to this magical Hallmark Christmas Movie type feel!!!

Mason and his humor was a big highlight, along with the setting/vibe (obviously). This actually exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed it much more than my first read by this author. The ending was a little abrupt. I would’ve loved an epilouge! 4.25 stars.

The idea of having Mr. Claus for boyfriend. At the same time, having him as boss is fascinating. I am not quite the girl who enjoys paranormal romances, but this one was as simple as it doesn't have the paranormal in it. I enjoyed this book. I read it in a few days. I couldn't get my hands off this one. The aesthetic of book, hot cocoa, slowburn, the cat that escaped in wood, their love story and chemistry - it can make you lovesick, but make your heart warm in a minute.

What a fun little holiday read, a great way to ease into the holiday season!! This has some of my fav tropes, and it didn’t disappoint.

The first story in the Village of Yule, this is a new Author to me. Mason Klaus and Lyla do not get off to a very good start when her father sells him the major shares in the father's company. Their story has some drama, a fire, surprises, a fake relationship and romance. I found their Christmas story to be well worth reading. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

As someone who loves Christmas, this was the perfect read that gave me all the Christmas feels. Lyla and Mason's relationship gave off the ideal, rivals-to-lovers with grumpy x sunshine. The banter between the two helped me believe in their chemistry, and I liked how Lyla was there for him during his hard times. Having to play his fake fiancé in front of his family, I enjoyed the found family aspect as Mason's family and Lyla's interactions were adorable and it felt like she fit in perfectly even though she was playing a role. This was the perfect start to a Christmassy series, can't wait to dive into the next book.

I really enjoyed this book! It was an enemies to lovers romance and was beautifully put together. I had a little trouble getting into the story, a lot of the beginning is to build up the world and explanations. Being an avid reader, I could predict some plot points, yet when I get to those points in the book I forgot all about my predictions and enjoyed the moment. That being said, there were a few surprises within the story that definitely had me rereading the page to make sure I didn't miss anything. Wonderfully written, engaging, exciting, I can't wait for the next one!

Perfect read to get you into the holiday mood. This is most definitely a slow burn, enemies to lovers holiday Rom Com. Loved the chemistry between Lyla and Mason. I love a good grumpy enemy MMC lol.

This was a nice cozy christmas read. It has all the good tropes. Forced proxmity, one bed, enemies to lovers, he falls first. There were a few momemnts that were a bit choppy but over all i really enjoyed it.

It’s 41 days until Christmas and I am loving the holiday romances (even though this is only my second). I literally knew nothing about this before picking it up. I liked the cover and applied for it on NetGalley, and somehow got it. I ended up loving this way more than expected. Lyla and Mason were really great characters, and I loved their dynamic together. The side characters were also so good. The whole Klaus family were lovely, I only wish we could’ve spent more time with them. Yule sounded like such a magical place, I really wish I could visit! I honestly read this book back in 2022, and was happy to re read it again. I forgot how much I enjoyed this book, I really enjoyed this whole spin on the Klaus family. The depth of the world building really made it all work for me, while the balance between each of the main characters having lost a parent works get. The banter between Lyla and Mason was on point, and I liked how she fought for the company party and for the staff with such passion at the start of the book.

This is a festive and fun read! A Christmas-loving Lyla and grumpy Klaus are enemies working together at her family's toy company. Very quickly, she is magically whisked away to Klaus's home town, and she learns the truth about her co-worker. I loved all of the descriptions of holiday decorations, food, and activities. It made me want to curl up with a peppermint mocha! The romance was sweet but not as developed as I would have liked. But overall a fun story, and I look forward to returning to Yule with the next book in the series!

The Naughty or Nice clause is a very fun holiday romance that is a reminiscent of Tim Allen's "The Santa Clause" but make him a Private Equity Mogul who is running away from his family legacy. When Mason decides to cancel the company Christmas party, however, Lyla isn't having it. The events that follow pull them both into a fake engagement situation and then some!

I enjoyed this book a lot and it certainly put me in a Christmas mood. There is good chemistry between the characters and it is great how the author slowly reveals the layers that make Mason who he is so that we have empathy for him. There are also a host of fun side characters that work to give Lyla a found family she dearly needs. There is humor, a little spice, and a great HEA just in time for Christmas. If you are looking for a quick read to get you in the holiday spirit "The Naughty or Nice Clause" will definitely hit the spot!

This was such a great read and the premise of the book was something I have not read before in any Christmas novels I have read so far.

The magical writing Kate has used in this book to capture the elements of Christmas and the town of Yule was such a pleasure to read and one that I really enjoyed all the way from start to finish.

Kate wrote very loving characters that had depth. Whilst the topic is obviously a Christmas book, Kate highlighted the feeling of loss so well and how to deal with that loss during such a special time for family to be together. I think Kate did a great job of capturing this.

The main relationship between the two characters is your typical grumpy/sunshine and features the fake dating trope which is so often used in romances. What I especially liked was the fast pace of this book. There wasn't really any dithering when it came to the build-up of the plot which in some books can be quite a bore, however, Kate wrote this book so well with a great pace that it was easy to read and to follow along with whilst also keeping you gripped.

I found reading this that I would be reading it very quickly because I was invested in the plot and characters even though I knew it would end in a happily ever after, I was invested in seeing how the characters got there.

All in all, this is a great read for anyone looking for a romantic Christmas read with a magical setting.

I think the Naughty or Nice Clause might just be a yearly holiday read for me. It is so cute and I love the twist on the north pole and Santa. It is a little bit different than the typical North Pole - no elves, no toys, no Santa magically going around the world in a night on his own. However, it's still true to the season and there are still many familiar elements. I found the author's version to be charming and unique.

I was a little skeptical going in knowing this is an enemies to lovers romance. But it works so well in this story. Lyla can't stand Mason because he has stepped in and is running the business that she had been expecting to run when her dad retired. But her dad brought Mason in to save the company. He's making decisions she hates and ignoring her input completely. She rightfully hates him. And while she does seem aware that he's attractive, she isn't initially attracted to him. But then, over the course of the story, they are forced together and as she learns about him, she realizes she was wrong about him. Their friendship and chemistry grows as they get to know one another and it's just perfect. And for my friends who like to know going in, yes there is a third act breakup.

Quick note - This book does deal with grief. Mason's father recently passed away, and we do see moments of everyone in the family dealing with that grief.

Overall, this is a cute holiday romance I can see myself returning to over and over again. Thanks so much to the author for the advance copy. As always, opinions are my own.

This festive love story was an unexpected delight. I imagined enemies to lovers, workplace romance but I got something very different - magic!
Lyla owns 49% of her grandfathers toy making business. She is in love with the company and with Christmas. She works extremely hard to keep the business afloat as well as the employees that are like family to her.
Mason Klaus, majority share owner of the company is the grumpy boss, always holding that 51% over Lyla’s head.
The novel opens to Lyla finding out her annual staff Christmas party was cancelled by Mr, Klaus but she’s determined to celebrate the festive season regardless of her boss.
Lyla, in the middle of her DIY Christmas party, stumbles into her boss who’s considerably drunk and very loose lipped compared to his sober self. Lyla has to help him get home but by the next morning she wakes to banging on her door. A fire has happened in their building and a hungover Mr. klaus admits defeat and has to return home after 10 years away. As a way of paying reparations. Lyla is tricked into spending 12 days with Klaus in his family home following the recent death of his father.
But something quite extraordinary happens: they’re teleported to a snowy dreamland. Or, as it turns out, a secret and magical town called Yule where Klaus is from. In disbelief, Lyla is further disorientated by suddenly finding out she has to play the role of doting fiancée.
This novel reminded me of the movies The Santa Clause and Fred Clause. It was a heartwarming and slightly spicy romance mixed with the literal magic of Christmas and family responsibilities. It was really cute.

Okay, I admit—this one started off a little rocky for me. I wasn’t sure where the story was heading, or if I even wanted to go along for the ride. But wow, am I glad I stuck with it!

I absolutely loved this book. Yes, it felt a bit insta-lovey, but it’s a Christmas romance—there’s gotta be some love magic in there! I enjoyed how Mason cleverly “tricked” Lyla into going home with him to set things right. His family? Completely lovable. The way they welcomed Lyla with open arms was heartwarming and made me fall in love with them just as much.

The touch of spice in the story was perfectly balanced—enough to keep things exciting but still tame. And the retelling of Santa Claus lore? Pure magic! It added such a whimsical and unique twist that made the book unforgettable.

This was my first holiday book for the season and I had fun with this one. I've read another book by this author so I already fell into the groove of her writing style as well paced well. There were moments where I felt the characters a bit on the nose but again, this is meant to be holiday themed book and I state again - IT WAS FUN to read. Klaus is a Mr. Grumpy Grinch and Lyla the ever shinning Optimist (outside of Klaus anyway.) Mix the crazy together and what the sparks and shots fire (figuratively of course.)

The ending (imo) may have been a bit cut off but that could have just been me upset that it was over.

This story is an original take on Santa. I really enjoyed the interaction of the characters and the description of the village.

Mason and Lyla work for the same toymaking company, but they do not agree with each other's managing styles. The latest? Mason cancelled the staff/client Christmas party. Unflapped, Lyla reinstates it for employees only and holds it in the office. Imagine her surprise to find Mason enebriated, talking about his family. The situation gets stranger the next day - after the party got out of hand and damaged the offices - Mason insists Lyla come home with him to help out his family. After she agrees, he produces a bell that transports them...to the North Pole.

However, for Lyla to stay in the village, she must pretend to be Mason's fiancee. How can she convince his family she is in love with the sexy, infuriating man?

I NEED MORE OF LYLA AND MASON!!!!! I was not prepared for this at all and absolutely loved every piece of their relationship, from enemies to lovers I ate this book up!!! I couldn’t put it down!!!

A real cozy, cheezy Christmasread that delights the heart and fills the time until Christmas Eve perfectly.

I love a holiday romance! Set in the North Pole to boot? How fantastical! I love the premise and the setting, plus all of the characters. However, I did not feel the chemistry between Layla and Mason so the enemies to lovers trope did not add that extra sizzle for me. I do look forward to the next book in the series so I can read more about the North Pole though!

When the book starts out basically saying if you're a grinch this year with the holidays, this book is for you lol. The town on Yule was so cute and so magical and I loved Mason's family, so that made up for the fact that the romance fell flat for me. I didn't really feel the chemistry and Mason seemed disconnected. The potential was there for sure, I love a good fake dating trope.

The first book, The Naughty Or Nice Clause, introduces us to Yule and follows Lyla and Mason. They have an enemies to lovers, workplace, fake fiancé relationship. It’s amazing, I love how their relationship begins and blooms. I also LOVE the Klaus family and am open to relocation if Santa happens to be real and reading this.

If you love feeling like you are reading a Hallmark movie and want to get in the Christmas spirit, I highly recommend this series. I enjoyed the magical elements, the romance, the Village of Yule and especially the HEA of each.
