Description
'Truly unnerving' Jane Bailey
'I raced through it in little more than a single session' 5* Reader Review
They said a mother knows best and I believed them. Was I wrong?
It is supposed to be a dream. James and I have been trying for years. But now it is starting to feel like a nightmare.
Doctors don't ask questions, or care about how you're feeling. They just tell you what to do. They never listen.
Mam and James don't understand either. James thinks I'm being anxious and Mam says it'll pass. It always does. That's what she did when Dad died.
I've never felt more alone. Or scared.
Then I joined an online group for mothers. A sisterhood, really. They might be on a screen, but sometimes it feels like they know me better than James. They listen, they care. It's all I could have asked for.
Until the worst happens and I see them for who they are. But if I leave, what if they come for me next?

Claire, an expectant mother has hardly no support and joins an online community where she finds that they are a little non conformative.
She is feeling very vulnerable and welcomes new friends.
I loved this book, you can tell the author did a lot of research and Claire although not a likeable character did have her moments where I felt completely where she was coming from.
There were twists, emotion, and drama , it is dark and intense and such a fabulous read..
4+ stars
This was very much a one sit read for me.
I flew through it.
I do like a bit of toxicity in a book, and this had plenty of it.
I didnt much like Clare for 80% of this book... but you don't have to like someone to feel for them.
There were a few times when my jaw almost dropped at what was happening. A sentence or two with devastating effects.
It was good to get other looks at different pregnancies too. Different points of view.
This book is going to be a smash, and hopefully a good deterrent to anyone getting advice from online forums!
I really enjoyed this fresh and original debut novel about pregnancy, motherhood and the lure of toxic online communities. The characterisation was great and the mounting sense of dread when reading worked really well and made it a compelling read.
Looking forward to more work from this author.
Brilliantly written that had me hooked right from the start. Claire is desperate to become pregnant, each month when her period is due, she’s testing to see if she finally gets those two lines or a plus.. each month comes with desperate need and then a turmoil of emotions. Then Claire gets that test result shes always wanted.. only it doesn’t seem like people around her are happy for her and James, even James seems distant? Claire turns to her trusted online friends who convince her of taking a more “natural” way, no hospitals and what comes with that is what you need to find out. Highly recommended this book, it was truly amazing
Claire is having a baby. But her joy is tempered by overwhelming anxiety - from what she can eat and drink during the early months of pregnancy to what and where the 'best' most natural birth will be. Driven by a desire to do what's best for her baby, she flirts with motherhood's most extreme views, putting her health in danger and her relationship under intolerable strain. Will disaster follow?
I loved this book. As pacy as a murder mystery, the tension and dread are skilfully built chapter after chapter until they reach breaking point. Yet it's also full of finely drawn characters and sharp social observations that make Claire's choices easy to understand and empathise with, even when you don't like or agree with her.
Baby Teeth covers a lot of sensitive issues related to fertility and pregnancy, including infertility, pregnancy loss and traumatic birth, but it always does so with plenty of heart and compassion.
All in all, a great read. I raced through it in little more than a single session.
Thank you so much to Orion and NetGalley for providing me with this eArc in exchange for an honest review.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish and I flew through it in one sitting. It’s a brilliant read and covered a lot of sensitive topics related to pregnancy and fertility. I look forward to seeing more from this debut author.
Many thanks to netgalley, the author and the publisher for approving my request to read this book.
In this book in which we are introduced to Claire who finally has her dream come true after falling pregnant. She seeks advice and comfort in an online forum which promotes free birthing which is perfect for her due to her fear of hospitals. She quickly finds herself obsessed with the group as this story unravels.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book which explored many sides of both pregnancy and motherhood and found it both compelling and emotional as well as very well and sensitively written.
Looking forward to more from this author!
"Baby Teeth" by Celia Silvani is going to be one of those books that is going to get the book clubs and mums groups discussing what could be highly sensitive subjects. It reminded me a little of "The Herd" by Emily Edwards which focussed on whether or not to vaccinate your children and what the knock on effects can be. This centred around birthing choices and using online chat groups as your support network as opposed to seeking the professional medical advice. Great book, very much a page turner.
The author really built up the suspense and atmosphere in this book. I really disliked the main character and how she seemingly thought everyone else had it out for her, but I also felt for her at the same time. Pregnancy is a huge change for anyone!
I thought it was written well, and I can see lots of people enjoying this book, but for me, I didn't find myself reaching for it and wanting to read it quickly. I do think the whole concept is really interesting, though, and the writing was good. It was an amazing debut. Would prob be a 3.5 but placing it as 4 here as was written really well.
