Description
Millionaire war veteran Art Schitthelm has lived through two wars and he's determined not to see another. In order to ensure that everyone keeps the peace, he uses a bogus charity to inflict his own brand of twisted philanthropy on humankind. Arrogant, and used to getting his own way, Schitthelm meets his nemesis in the form of an unflappable ignoramus called Lenny Plant. Plant, along with a corrupt priest and a murderous Cliff Richard fan, unwittingly play out a sequence of bizarre events, triggered by an accident with a lawn-mower.
"I have had an itch to write this story for many years and, upon approaching fifty, the itch became so irritating it bordered on insufferable. Convinced it would be a cathartic experience, I set out to produce an allegorical commentary on modern human iniquity," explains Andrew about his desire to write Poor Enid.
Poor Enid was written with the sole intention of torturing the reader into laughter, utilising humour that is honest, uncompromising and often brutal.
"I watched Alex Harvey and his band perform on stage back in the seventies. The act came across as a wonderfully harrowing and darkly humorous celebration of the less pleasant things that can happen in life. It was mesmerising for me and inspired the stark, unforgiving and often tragic humour that haunts the pages of Poor Enid. I urge the reader to pick up the book and be brave!" observes Andrew.
