Description

Have you ever wondered how gnomes really live? This funny, beautifully illustrated picture book will teach you all about it.

Hello human!

How lovely to meet you. I’m Kick. As you can see, I’m a gnome. ‘Gnome’ is actually pronounced ‘Nome’. Maybe you’re wondering about the reason for the weird silent ‘g’? Well, I’m afraid that reason is one of the biggest gnome secrets. Only gnomes are allowed to know it – gnobody else.

I’m guessing you think you know a lot about me? Well, actually, you don’t! Let’s get going and I’ll tell you everything.

The modern gnome's life is a far cry from the stereotypes of toadstools and forest glades. In fact, these days most gnomes live in towns and cities - right alongside us! The Gnome Book is the essential guide for anyone curious about their  way of life: what they eat, how they have fun, what they learn at school and even what pets they have - you'll learn about all this and more as a friendly gnome Kick shows you around his world.

Each page of this richly illustrated picture book is crammed with fascinating gnome facts, jokes and advice for following the gnome lifestyle. Whether it's a step-by-step plan for making a pointy red gnome hat or a cross section of a gnome house, every spread is a feast for the eyes. After reading it, you'll be seeing signs of our gnome neighbours everywhere you look.

This is a fun little book, narrated by Kick the Gnome, who shows the reader how his family lives beneath a bookstore. He also enjoys going to school, visiting his grandparents and playing with his friends. There are definitely some ewww moments that younger readers will enjoy and I think it will appeal to reluctant and confident readers alike.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers Pushkin Press, but the opinions expressed are my own. I enjoyed this quick humorous read with friendly relatable illustrations.

This book is delightfully quirky, taking readers on a fun journey through a day in the life of a gnome. Full of imagination, it captivates with bright, colorful illustrations that fill each page with fascinating images. Children will laugh at the playful details, like the gnome’s belly button on his back or the amusing scene of a dog peeing on him. It’s a completely captivating and whimsical read. Advance reader copy was kindly provided via NetGalley.

A beautifully illustrated, irreverent guide to the gnome world. Perfect for adults and children alike. Not much of a story more just "a day in the life of a gnome". Silly, cute and a little gross.

This book is incredibly cute and fun. There is almost an I-Spy quality in the big two page illustration spreads, lots of little treasures to spot! The story is entertaining and goofy, with a very child centered humor, like how Kick, the narrator gnome, has to brush his nose, not his teeth, before bed, or how the gnomes have to watch out for the dangers of a cat peeing on them. The text is overall very sweet, going through what the gnome kids do at school and how the gnome parents and community take care of each other. I will definitely purchase this title for my library!

Thank you to NetGalley and Pushkin Children’s Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.

I read The Gnome Book to see if it might be a cute way to inspire interest for a younger child to learn the words that go with the pictures. Safe to say I think I found a story that will start doing that. The illustrations are adorable and so well done, and while the story isn’t going to fascinate the adult who might be reading to said child, it’s simple enough that a child can start sounding out some words and feel accomplished to have done so. Truly more about the pictures, this is a fun one!

As this is a review copy I anticipate this will be resolved by time of publication but this is formatted in a way where I’d not recommend it for kindle until it’s expressly indicated to be ready for that format.
