Benita Rae Smith is a retired speech and language therapist and senior lecturer in speech pathology and therapy (specialising in child language and communication development and disorder). Alice Sluckin, OBE is Chair and Founder of the Selective Mutism Information and Research Association (SMIRA). She was a senior psychiatric social worker in a clinical setting for many years. Both have written widely, Alice on selective mutism and other conditions and Rae on linguistic pragmatics and related issues in journals and books. The editors both live in Leicester, UK.
