The author's imagination is one of complexity and strength as you acquaint yourself with the deep characters of this book. As a young adult novel, the subject matter was shocking and disconcerting, reminding me of The Hunger Games. It is difficult to fathom how anyone would find enjoyment in death and destruction, but it only takes an evil heart to do so. Cheering on the main character, I felt anxious during the competitions and dreaded the loss of another character. Anyone could enjoy reading this book, but teens today would be most excited about it because it reminds me of the entertainment enjoyed in gaming consoles. Jennifer Jaxxon-Louis has an amazing mind that can map out a thousand outcomes, and I couldn't predict what was next.  I would rate it a 10 out of 10 for originality, flow/pace, and character development.
