Description

It’s the perfect place to disappear… and to fall in love

Libby Preston has found a town where no one knows her secret. In the tiny, rural community of Owatura on New Zealand’s South Island, she can escape the past and give her young daughter a normal life.

But when a double-jointed dance move almost blows Libby’s cover, she can’t risk putting their lives in danger again. That’s why she accepts the lead role in the local theatre club’s production starring opposite rugged, local legend Oliver Leyendecker.

Oliver can’t wait to leave Owatura and his family’s expectations behind. He recognises Libby as a lost soul, except he refuses to give in to their attraction and have another reason tying him to his hometown.

Then Oliver unwittingly puts a sleazy private detective on her tail, and Libby must decide if it’s time to run again… or stay and fight.

But if she stays, she’ll have to learn to fire a shotgun. And, more frightening still, put her trust in love.

Escape to the South Land is a heart-warming, escapist, small-town suspense full of twists and turns with a touch of humour and a slow-burn romance about the power of love and community.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of ESCAPE TO THE SOUTH LAND (Romantic Suspense) by T.J. Beach in exchange for an honest review. Libby Preston and her daughter are settling into their lives in the town of Owatura, New Zealand. In fact, Libby is so comfortable, she agreed to star in a local musical. However, as Libby comes out of her shell, her secrets emerge, as well. Oliver Leyendecker is sick of everyone’s expectations and thoroughly done with his savior complex. However, Oliver just can’t get over his fascination with Libby even though she’s sending out damsel in distress signals. When his mistake brings trouble from Libby’s past into town, Oliver has to temporarily resume his savior status, but the more time he spends with Libby, the more he likes her. Can he convince Libby to stay and fight or will Oliver lose Libby to flight?

I liked the book. It was an enjoyable read with likable characters and a HEA.

"One wrong word is one too many. Tell no one."

*Escape to the South Land* is a romantic suspense novel set in a small town. It follows the story of Libby and her daughter, Georgia, as they try to escape the past. Libby dreams of giving Georgia a normal life, one where no one knows her secret. In Owatura, New Zealand, she discovers the power of love and community. But when a detective uncovers a lead about her past, she faces a difficult choice—run again or trust the people she’s come to care about and stand her ground.

This was a heartwarming read with a touch of suspense. A slow-burn romance, friendship, and humor made the story engaging, and the well-paced plot and likable characters kept me turning the pages. I finished it fairly quickly!

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and the characters. It was a pleasure to follow Libby, Georgia, and Oliver’s journey. The story also gave me strong Virgin River vibes. I haven’t read the book, but I’ve watched the TV series, so my comparison comes from that. 🙂
