To sum this book up in one word - Wow!
But I need to use more than one word to do justice to the author, Kierney Scott, for writing this amazing, story that kept me hooked from the beginning to the end.
DEA agent, Beth Thomson is trying to get on with her life after having her heart broken by Torres, her undercover recruit. When she digs a little deeper on hearing some tragic news, Beth slowly uncovers the horrors that Torres endured while they were apart. Held captive, all Torres could think about was his Beth. On his return he doesn't get the welcome he'd dreamt of and his life will never be the same again. Beth refuses to let Torres back into her heart. Losing him the first time hurt too much.
There are times in this story when both Beth and Torres do bad things, but still the author makes you care about them. Some of Torres' bad is actually very, very good! The backstory and the strength of the characters all draw you into this gritty story. This isn't a story for the faint-hearted and don't expect it to be all hearts and flowers. What you get is an author who dares to write with bravery and pushes her characters into the darkest of places. And my goodness I love a brave author!
This story has plenty of pace, twists, depth and lots and lots of heat!
So what do you do when you read book 2 first? Scramble over yourself to buy book one of course!
