Description

"What is wrong, Grappo?" Grapella asked. "Aren’t we travelling today?"
"Man is here," he grunted.

Grappo the Gorilla is the tale of a gorilla, his pack and their encounters with 'Man'.

The first chapter introduces Grappo and his pack, who are worried. Man has invaded their territory on the slopes of Mount Mikeno in the Congo. Together, with the males in his pack, he tries to frighten the humans away… but will they succeed?

In the second chapter we meet Grapella, Grappo’s mate, who is kidnapped by scientists. Grappo is bereft, but so is Lucy, the daughter of one of the scientists, who thought her father was only there to take photographs. Will Grapella’s cries from her cage change the scientists’ minds or is she lost to the pack forever?

The third chapter follows Grappo’s twin gorilla youngsters, who are amazed to see their father shrink away from what looks like a long worm. How can Papa be wary of such a small creature? They vow to capture one and bring it back to show their father.

Grappo the Gorilla is part of Marianne Parry’s growing collection of children’s books, which includes Tales of Wabasso (Matador, 2014), Rusty and Friends (Matador, 2014) and Bruno and Little Donkey (Matador, 2015). The book will be enjoyed by children between the age of seven and nine, particularly those who enjoy animal stories.
