Description

Three separate families. Three different tales of loss. But a tangled thread binds them together . . .

Three widely separated households – one in Scotland, one in the north of England and one in the south – have known the pain of losing a loved one; losses which, over the years, have shaped the characters of those left behind. But it takes the untimely and suspicious death of Martin Petrie, a stranger from the Scottish Borders mowed down in a hit and run, to untangle the threads that will draw them together in ways they could never have imagined, with results that are far-reaching – and fatal.

The tangled thread is unwoven brilliantly and in engaging style. An intrigue not to be missed.

An absolutely riveting story weaving together several different families, and somehow fitting them all together. When Beth's mystery boarder is found stabbed to death she realizes how little she knows about him. And when his picture is published in the paper two different families who believed their father was dead are shocked to find his likeness. This is the first one of Anthea Fraser's books that I have read but it certainly will not be the last!. I highly recommend it.

This mystery is very twisty and tangled. There are lots of subplots, characters and mysteries but they are all tied up in a not so neat bow by the end. The author does a very good job of juggling all the plots and characters. I did not feel confused when reading. The plot moves at a quick pace and the ending was a shocker. Enjoy this mystery.

A convoluted tale of intrigue

Gill Lawrence is still mourning the tragic death of her husband Gregory. Her daughter Georgia and her husband Tim had moved in with her. The arrangement is working out well as they have been able to split the house so that Gill is able to carry on giving piano lessons, while Georgia and her family enjoy their privacy upstairs. Richard, her son, always jealous of Georgia is not very accepting of the arrangement.

In Yorkshire David and his brother Will are mourning the passing of their mother, Sally. She'd told the boys that their father was killed just shortly before Will was born.

And in Scotland, the police are trying to establish the true identity of Johnnie Stewart. He'd been staying at Beth Monroe's boarding house, but no person by that name comes up on any database. After the e-fit photograph appears in the newspapers asking the public for their help to establish his identity, these two families are thrown into turmoil because he looks like their father.

This book bounces along at a really good pace, making you want to find out why this man had so many aliases. You also want to find out how each member of the family will deal with the situation. The police investigation is fascinating because they need to use different methods and procedures to sort out the conundrum of Johnnie Stewart.

While all this is going on there's a gang robbing country homes of their artefacts and Victoria owner of an art gallery is also targeted.

And then there is Richard, Gill's son and Victoria's husband, a deputy head master who becomes obsessed with a new teacher.

This story has many threads to it, which makes it more enjoyable to read and the ending is possibly one of the most jaw dropping endings of all times!

Anthea Fraser uses a very easy flowing style and manages to keep the various strands of the book flowing and uncomplicated to follow. This is the first book I've read by her, but hopefully, not the last.
