I would like to thank the publisher profusely for allowing me to have a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I devoured this book within 24 hours which, considering my workload at the moment, is quite an achievement. This is also testament to what an edge-of-the-seat book this was. I was so disappointed when it came to a conclusion with a very satisfying ending. The type of ending which leaves the enthralled reader with a lump in the throat.

What a roller coaster rode of a book. I spent much of the story feeling frustrated at the meagre attempts of Grace to get away from her predicament. However, as the story unfolds, we realise how futile her situation is. This book will certainly have me looking at those seemingly 'perfect' couples in a new light from here on.

A thoroughly enjoyable book which I will be championing when it is released!

It feels wrong to say I loved this book because of the subject matter but I really did. The story was so good who wouldn't fall for a man who looked like George Clooney although I don't think I will look at gorgeous George the same way. The characters of Jack and Grace were both so believable. You could really feel Grace's fear and empathize with her situation. The character of Millie was brilliantly written, she has Downs Syndrome and came up with a very clever idea with a little help from Agatha Christie. I would really recommend this book the story totally gripped me from start to finish, I found it very hard to put down and looked forward to picking it back up. I am so glad the publisher granted my wish to read this. Thank you. I will post my review two weeks before publication.

Behind Closed Doors

When Grace met Jack it seemed that all her dreams had come true. He had asked her to marry him almost straight away and they were building the house of their dreams. They had also made plans for Grace's sister Millie, who has Down's syndrome, to live them. To all their friends and family it was the perfect love story and they were besotted with each other. Don't always believe what you read!! I found this book fascinating, like a drug I kept going back for more and more. I read it in two days. Such a gripping thriller that had me on the edge of my seat right up until the end. B.A Paris, what a Brilliant author! Look forward to reading more of your books. Thank you Netgalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read this book.

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.. As this is a debut book for this author I cannot wait to read the next. Edge of your seat gripping story which you want to finish yet you don't.

Firstly I have to say that if it were possible to give this more than 5 stars I really would, it is powerful and thought provoking whilst dealing with a distressing subject.
In this book you meet Grace, a hard working woman helping to pay the fees for her sister Millie's care. Millie has Down's syndrome and lives in a wonderful home being cared for by Janice. Jack, high powered lawyer, a high profile case winner for the women who suffer abuse at the hands of their husbands meets both Grace and Millie in the park dancing to the playing band. Courtship and marriage follow quickly, Millie is bridesmaid when tragedy strikes...and reality hits hard. Grace becomes a typical lady who lunches, a Stepford wife who behaves impeccably around all of her new friends whilst hiding her innermost fears of what will become of her, and of Millie. What really happens behind closed doors?

Deeply moving and intense this book will stay with me for a long time, a book you really can't put down.

I read a lot and I do enjoy most of the books I read but then, every so often, one comes along that completely blows me away, This was one of those books.
I love books that consume your emotions and Behind Closed Doors definitely does that.
Within a few pages I found myself completely absorbed in the story. This is a powerful, well written and disturbing read.
I highly recommend this book and for you to wave goodbye to doing anything else for a few days because you won't be putting it down. Brilliant. Thank you.

WOW. The sign of a great book is when you realise you have forgotten to breathe during an entire chapter. Terrifyingly chilling, Behind Closed Doors tells the story of domestic abuse and grabs you from the first page. As we like to say in our book club - this book is a total sphincter clencher! Read it.. but make sure you leave the lights on!

THIS WAS SO GOOD. Alternating between the past and the present, Behind Closed Doors tells the story of Jack and his wife Grace and their seemingly perfect marriage. Jack is the perfect husband - works hard, looks after his wife and builds her the home of her dreams. Grace is the perfect wife, cooks, cleans, paints and looks after her husband. But behind closed doors, is that really all that happens? This was SUCH a great psychological thriller examining the idea of marriage and how it can hide a multitude of sins. I was gripped from the first page and I read this in less than a day! Honestly cannot fault it. The ending was perfect, the tension was constant and I couldn't put it down! Bravo, a truly thrilling and chilling novel.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book received in exchange for an honest review. What a fantastic book! You think you know the way the book is going from the outset, Jack and Grace are recently married, Jack is the successful lawyer, Grace the perfect wife. You wonder why Grace is so compliant and think for goodness sake woman, stop being such a Stepford wife!
Then we slowly learn the truth and it is more horrific than you could ever imagine. It made an uncomfortable read, there is an all pervading sense of doom and horror and it certainly gave me the fear!
Absolutely brilliant book, will be one of the big successes of 2016 when it is released.

Behind Closed Doors is a brilliantly tense and claustrophobic psychological thriller centred around domestic violence and controlling behaviour, it is an interesting, highly addictive take on its subject matter and is totally engrossing throughout.

On the outside Grace and Jack have a perfect marriage. Picture a dinner party. Perfect food. Perfect conversation. A story well told of meeting, falling in love, getting married, planning a family. Two beautiful people in a beautiful home, with friends that envy them. A love story.Only you never see Grace without Jack. And when the laughter is over and the guests have gone home it is a very different tale.

The author takes a bit of a different approach here to the other what I consider definitive novel on domestic violence (Elizabeth Haynes:Into The Darkest Corner which I urge you to read as well as this one if you have not already done so)- in that she throws the harsh realities of Grace's life at you immediately with no holding back - and from the moment you realise just what is going on behind the scenes, you are at turns horrified and fascinated. As Grace gets you from A to B in how she has ended up where she is and her frantic search for an out,you will barely be able to put it down.

In Jack Ms Paris has created a truly scary monster of a man whose subtle manipulations will intrigue and terrify you. Grace is easy to get behind, she is caught in a web from which there seems to be no escape but manages to keep a sense of herself for the most part and as things roll towards their inevitably dark conclusion, the way the story twists in and around itself is extremely cleverly achieved.

I really thought this was fantastic. Brilliantly written and targeted in its impact on the reader, this one will stay with me for a long time.

Highly Recommended.

Happy Reading Folks!

A Creepy, thought provoking Book. Literally Scared me at times. Touched on a very tough Subject and Proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that You truly don't know what goes on behind closed doors! One of the best thrillers I've read this year*

A definite 5star psychological thriller. This book had me gripped from the very beginning. The suspense just kept on building and building, which made this book very, very, hard to put down. This is definitely in the top 5 of books I have read this year.

My thoughts

Fabulous read, a real page turner of a psychological domestic noir.

Jack and Grace - the perfect couple, recently married, in the flush of a new relationship, it's hardly surprising that they're so devoted to each other. At first I observed the relationship as others see it, their friends attending dinner parties Grace has carefully and lovingly prepared. They probably envy her - her handsome, successful and very attentive husband. She's so in love with him, she's happily given up her career to make sure he's content. She spends her days caring for their lovely designer home and looking forward to the time in the not too distant future when her younger sister Millie comes to live with them. Their guests certainly want to include her in their social lives, invitations to lunch and offers of friendship are made, despite Grace having let them down by not turning up before.

I then began to see behind the closed doors, once the guests have gone, catching glimpses of Grace's life, both when she first met Jack and in the present. There is something very off kilter but quite what it is I had yet to work out .... and that's when my blood began to run very, very, cold. From small tinkling alarm bells grow huge clangs of disbelief and as teeth clenching realisation dawns to why Grace is like she is, I couldn't put this book down. It switches between now and before with ease, painting a detailed picture of a doomed relationship that is unlike any I've come across before.

Grace is in a situation I can only pray I never end up in. At first I began to think why on earth does she put up with the things she does, but the author very cleverly covers all bases in assuring us that escaping is pretty darned impossible. Jack is evil and manipulates her effortlessly, and I kept thinking "No, for heavens sake, how far can my incredulity stretch" yet, I did end up believing this story and warmed to Grace, especially towards the latter part of the book.

I really can't say too much about this book without giving too much away. It's obvious it's about some form of abusive relationship and I went into it expecting some kind of battered wife story - Oh but this is SO much more than that. It's extremely twisty and so clever it's a work of genius.

That I loved reading this wonderful book from a talented new author is not in doubt. That Jack will haunt my nightmares for some time to come is also assured!

My gratitude goes to the folks at Netgalley for offering this advance copy for review purposes and to the publisher for granting me access to it.

A friend of mine had the perfect marriage. When they got divorced, I asked him what went wrong, his answer has stayed with me until this day - you are not in the house when the doors closes at 4pm.
And isn't that the truth. What we see happen in other people's lives, isn't perhaps what is really happening, and sometimes, just sometimes, the Joneses want to be like us......
This book really addressed this for me, and was an amazing read. Highly recommended!

OmG! I started reading this earlier this morning and just haven't been able to put it down (making soup with one hand...easy!). I predict this will be one of the major bestsellers in 2016 and a huge success for this stunningly chilling debut novel. It's already right up there with my favourites for the coming year as I absolutely adored and devoured this.
Jack Angel is the perfect man and on marrying Grace they become that perfect couple, you know, the ones we love to hate! They give wonderful dinner parties, live in the perfect house and Grace lives a charmed life without having to work. Or does she? The house is incredibly well secured-why? And why is Grace so desperate to have some of those chocolates a guest brought over? A girly lunch sounds fun but Grace keeps cancelling or, more bizarrely, Jack goes along too. This perfect couple seem to have a lot to hide and you won't want to stop reading until you find out exactly what that is.
This fabulous book that gave me goosebumps with its creepy "stepford" couple and I did not expect it to unfold the way it did. The way it is told, in the present but with flashbacks to the past, keeps you guessing as to what secrets are hidden at the perfect newlyweds mansion. I don't want to go any further into the plot as its best to approach it with an open mind but once this book grabs you it won't let you go until the last page. It's hard to believe this is a debut novel as its so intelligently plotted and perfectly paced. I can't wait to see what this author does next!
I received a copy of the book via netgalley in return for an unbiased review.

Have just read an ARC of Behind Closed Doors from Netgalley in return for an honest review. What can I say except WOW. I started it last night and read a couple of chapters and couldn't see where this was going as Jack just seemed like just a bit of a control freak and I thought Grace was a wet blanket. I picked it back up this morning at 8:00 and apart from making a cup of tea I have literally not been able to put it down. It's now 11:15 and I am emotionally wrung out! Brilliantly written story that pulls you slowly in and then WHAM, This has been one of my best reads EVER and will be huge in 2016. Congratulations to B A Paris on a remarkable debut book and thank you Netgalley. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would - will leave Amazon review closer to publishing date as requested.

Wow - what a book! The writing style and the immediate sense of foreboding drew me right in. The past and the present sections were equally compelling and I had no idea how Grace was going to deal with her awful predicament. I am not often a fan of the game-changing twist unless it is done very well, but let's just say that the clever reveals in this were MORE than satisfying - at one point I actually gasped at the extremely clever plotting - well done to the author for the skilled peppering of crucial information throughout. This book just has to be huge in 2016. I flew through it in two breathless sittings. Quite simply: astounding.

This book literally took my breath away! It pulled me in from the very first page and didn't let go long after I finished reading it. I became so engrossed that at times I had to stop reading for a moment, as I needed to calm myself down and bring my heart rate back to normal. I can't remember the last time a book made such a huge impression on me. I am actually jealous of people who are yet to read this compulsive and addictive story. I'd like to thank Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the advanced copy, in exchange for an honest review.

This book had me holding my breath without even realising I was doing it. Incredible psychological thriller. Hard to believe that someone could have such a hold over another person but also appear to be quite normal but that's fiction for you. Thank you for the ARC, loved it.

As the old saying goes, nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors and my goodness nobody would guess what was going on in Jack and Grace Angel's home. On the outside they appear to be the perfect couple: Jack's a successful good-looking lawyer, Grace gave up work when they got married. They have a beautiful home. Grace is elegant, an excellent cook with a healthy appetite though somehow manages to remain very slim. But something is a bit odd. You never see Grace without Jack, she never answers the house phone, doesn't have a mobile and often cancels lunch arrangements with her friends at the last minute - or Jack joins them.

This is one of these compelling books that will grab you right from the first pages. It is clear that something very strange is going on but you don't quite realise what at first. The story is told over two timescales, past and present. The past isn't very far in the past, just around two years, back when Jack first met Grace who was in the park with her much younger sister Millie, who has Down's Syndrome. Jack seems such a charmer but his true colours are revealed almost as soon as they are married. As Grace observes 'his physical appearance was so at odds with the evil within.... a wolf in sheep's clothing'. It was quite scary just how easily Jack managed to effectively trap and control Grace while still appearing normal to the rest of the world. It did make me wonder about how many women may be trapped in a similar kind of situation and helpless. Jack is a truly twisted character but so, so clever that I began to despair that Grace would ever escape her situation. Hope and a possible way out is offered from a very unlikely source but will Grace be able to act upon it?

Be warned that when you pick this book up that you won't want to put it down! As I got near the end and the really tense final pages where the past catches up with the present, I literally could not stop until I finished the book, finally putting my light out at 1am! This is a brilliant debut novel and I think it will be huge this year. (Can see it making a great film too.) B A Paris has written a really gripping psychological thriller which is head and shoulders above many others in the genre. I highly recommend you get yourself a copy and with a pre-order Kindle price of 99p at the time of writing, what are you waiting for?

Thank you so so much to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. This book is my 2015 favourite read! I loved loved loved it and i am pretty sure it will be a best seller when it is released in 2016! This book is a chilling ,psychocological thriller that you will not be able to put down. It tells the story of Grace and Jack - we get to know them over a dinner party - she is the loving adoring wife who dotes on her beloved new husband and he the devoted, loving husband who wants to spend every second he can with his wife. But behind closed doors things are not as perfect as they appear. This story flits between the past where you get to know more about Grace and jacks relationship - how they ended up together - and then to the present where you learn more about their reality. Their reality gave me chills but i could not help but read on and on - I bet you will feel the same! Fab read!!

This psychological thriller opens with a dinner party held by the perfect couple, Jack and Grace Angel. They are envied by their circle of friends. Wealthy, with a magnificent secluded house, they are both stunningly beautiful and so in love that Jack never leaves Grace's side. This is Grace's story as it goes back and forth between present day and how she met and fell in love with Jack. The clock is ticking...........

This isn't a cosy read, the cup of coffee you started out with, as you curled up on the sofa with a new book, will now be cold and you are in a tighter protective ball on the sofa. Your world has become that of Grace, as she weaves into your mind and you can't stop reading, as there just isn't a safe place you can leave her.

I highly recommend this book, but some readers may find the physical and mental abuse hard to read.

I wish to thank Netgalley and Harlequin UK for allowing me to read and review this book.

This book gripped me from the start. Jack and Grace appear to be the perfect couple. Jack impressed Grace when he was kind to her handicapped young sister, who was so dear to Grace. Their relationship was intense and they always did everything together.

As the story unfolds we discover more about Jack and he is not the 'good' person he shows to outsiders.

I found this book hard to out down as each chapter left me wanting to know more.

I recommend it highly.

This is a must read book for 2016. Wow it was just brilliant. A spine chilling emotional book, that at times made the hairs on my head stand up. I absolutely loved it.

Oh wow.... just finished this. Read in two days.... Not sure that 'enjoyed' this book is the right word as it is a dark, intense, emotional book but a could not put down.. I did actually think at one point I may not be able to carry on and this is from someone whose main genre is psychological thrillers..... this is beyond gripping and nail biting. You get the gist from the blurb that all is not as it seems but this really takes you to a dark place. I had to take time out of my working day with an extra long lunch break to find out the ending. An absolutely taut, spine tingling, clever, book. An excellent first novel and I really look forward to more from BA Paris.

WOW! The tension was unbearable right throughout and I felt as though I was living the nightmare with Grace. A satisfying end as well. A very promising book and debut author indeed! It took me a while to get used to the structure (ie, no chapters) but I got there in the end. Thanks so much to the author and publisher for this ARC via Netgalley.

18 Dec 2015 It's been 4 days since I've finished Behind Closed Doors and after a massive book hangover where I couldn't wipe this story off my mind or concentrate in any other book I have decided to update and upgrade ;-) my review from 4.5 Stars to 5 Fat Full Shine Stars! ;-)

14Dec2015

Jack is a 40 year old, charming, handsome and a brilliant lawyer who never lost a case. Grace is a 32 year old elegant woman who used to be a buyer for Harrods. Their friends think Grace is a woman who has it all – the perfect house, the perfect husband, the perfect life.

“Sometimes, the perfect marriage is the perfect lie.”

They have no children but very soon they are becoming Millie’s guardians, Grace’s sister, who is 17 and boards at a special school. As Jack says, it will add another dimension to their lives.

I could have read this much quicker after all it’s not a long story. However, I have lost count of how many times I have to read the same sentence twice and as the words sank in my head I caught myself looking at the empty space in front of me Wondering what I would have done in Grace’s situation.
How to get out when you are trapped FOR REAL in a horrific nightmare.

What is it with the psychos by the way? The web Jack created was a masterpiece. Clever Bastard!

Ok, back to my rumblings … one can think: Just run! Run for your life!
But you see… Grace was at a dead end. It wasn't that easy because the psycho had an Ace and it was not even hidden: Millie, sweet and innocent Millie who Jack used as a tool to get to Grace.

The story is terrifying and creepy because we see approaching in a countdown the date Millie will be leaving the boarding school to move in with them. Grace NEEDS to find a way to protect Millie from this monster.

Are you with me yet? Nope? I guess not, you are not a psycho.
In case you want to know what is the deal here I wrote this review at Goodreads and there you have an option to click in the spoiler ;-)

I'd heard a flutter of excitement on social media about Behind Closed Doors and was lucky to be able to pick up an ARC from NetGalley and then I set it aside as I had other books that were ahead of it in my organised reading queue. I use the term 'organised' rather loosely, as I can, and do juggle books around to suit my reading mood. So, with domestic noir as my reading mood, I bumped Behind Closed Doors up the queue and started to read on a quiet evening when there was nothing remotely decent to watch on any of the hundreds of TV channels that I have access too, and so, with music playing softly in the back ground, I entered the world of Jack and Grace. It says in the blurb that every one knows a couple like them. well, please God, don't let any couple I know be like them, otherwise I would be very concerned indeed, but I digress...

Jack and Grace are beautiful people. Jack from the offset is described as a George Clooney lookalike which must be said, ticked the right box straight away, and Grace with her slender good looks is composed, sophisticated and every inch the beautiful wife of an accomplished man. As a couple they are always together, in that if you see Jack , you also see Grace and vice versa. They even go to visit Grace's sister, who needs just a little bit of extra care and who is ably looked after in a rather expensive, residential facility. Friends marvel at Jack's ability to anticipate Grace's every whim. They own a sumptuous house, have a kitchen to die for, a place where beautiful meals are prepared to wow dinner guests, and they share wonderful photographs of exotic holidays. Truly, it would seem that Grace is a very lucky girl indeed.

But this sort of idyllic paradise comes with a high price tag as we are shortly to learn, as slowly, inch by tantalising inch, we are drawn into Grace's world, and that dear reader, is where I leave off what happens next. You really don't need me to outline the story in any more detail…

All I will say with any degree of intelligent observation is ...wow.

I read Behind Closed Doors until my eyes ached with weariness, I didn't notice the CD player stop playing and when I could read no more, I went to bed and dreamed dark dreams that had no basis in reality, but which were very firmly placed in the darkness of an imagination stimulated by really good storytelling.

Picking up the story the following morning and even before my breakfast porridge had time to cool, I had re-entered Jack and Grace's world and, quite simply, read and read and read, until by the time the last word was finished, I was numb with shock, stunned at the power of a writer who had the imagination let this story take flight, and humbled that something so viscerally graphic, would move me to tears.

There are two cliches used often in my book reviewing world...' it was unputdownable' and 'will stay with me long after the last page is turned' ....without any shadow of doubt and reviewing cliches notwithstanding, this really is both unputdownable and memorable and I can't enthuse about it enough....

Wow.

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.

I haven't read a thriller in a while. Although I enjoy reading a book that gets my heart racing with nerves, I prefer a psychological slant rather than blood, guts and gore. There are plenty of those out there, especially with the rise in popularity of 'domestic noir', but few really hit the spot for me. Behind Closed Doors was all about mind games, both between the couple in the book and between author and reader, and that's what made it such a gripping, intense read.

This book was so much better than the blurb suggests and I'll tell you why.

Firstly, although it's obviously marketed as a thriller, the early scenes where Jack and Grace get together are so full of love, kindness and empathy that it's difficult to believe just how depraved things are going to get. B.A Paris lulled me into a false sense of security and then horrified me with what followed.

Secondly, the blurb makes out that there are people doubting the perfect marriage Grace and Jack portray. The truth is, people believe what they want to believe. With their gorgeous country house, Jack's respectable job and patiently awaiting the arrival of Grace's sister Millie's moving in date, they seem to have it all. But behind closed doors their relationship is far from enviable. Away from the public eye Jack is anything but nice. The realisation that this scenario could quite plausibly be happening in houses all over the country was genuinely terrifying.

As the story progresses and both Grace and Millie's lives are increasingly in danger, I could feel the fear creeping inside me. The terror of what could happen loomed large and I squirmed uncomfortably as I reached the final pages. However, nothing matched the tingle that ran down my spine as I read the powerful final line.

Behind Closed Doors is an outstandingly good read.

I'll say it once more, just to drive the point home.

Wow.

Wow wow wow !!!!!!!I loved this book a total 5 star read .. Graces life is perfect to the outside world , married to the rich handsome Jack everything is seems idyllic.. But not is all as it seems ... Jack is anything but idyllic and Grace is in a battle to save her and her sister life . A must read ... I look forward to reading more from this author

When I was reading the first chapter of Behind Closed Doors everything seemed normal. A successful dinner party hosted by a happily married couple. But just a few pages later I wanted to go back and read it again. So I could see how I was completely fooled. Jack is a monster. Never with his fists, with him it's all psychological games and threats. The only reason that Grace kept going was her devotion to her younger sister Millie.
The novel switches between past and present so the reader meets Jack when Grace does. And just like Grace did, loves the way that he was with Millie. And also like Grace, believes everything that he says and does. It was a shock how swiftly he showed what he really wanted and the way that he did it. I liked both periods equally, reading the past became much easier to read as Grace learned how to play Jack at his own game. There was nothing that I didn't like about this novel, it was a very addictive read that I read in a few hours. It could easily be one of the biggest books of the year.

With thanks to the publisher for the copy received via NetGalley.

Wow, what a book! A complete page turner from beginning to end as you are sucked into the lives of Jack, Grace and Millie. An apparent story of love and devotion soon turns into a dark and dangerous situation, as it quickly becomes clear that all is not as it seems. The scariest part of this book comes with the knowledge that there are real life Jack's and Grace's out there. I couldn't put it down.

This debut by B A Paris is a stunning psychological thriller at it's very best. It felt so simple and easy to read that I devoured it in great chunks. The simplicity comes from there being very few characters, Grace and Jack are at the fore the whole way through with Millie not far behind. The story is set over two very close timelines – present time and the time of Grace and Jack's marriage just a few months earlier.

Simply told, yet Jack is such a complex character, a true unbalanced psychopath. He so charmingly wooed and courted Grace and was the apple of Millie's eye. Until the moment of marriage when BANG! the real Jack makes his debut. He is cruel and manipulative, his remarks are cutting, he is totally sadistic and spiteful. What he might do next had me on the edge of my seat. It's creepy and subtly dark and the tension becomes unbearable.

You need to read this. I really don't want to give any further clues of the plot away but you will need to set time aside to read as this is not a pick-it-up-put-it-down sort of book. I haven't read one as good as this little gem for a while.

How do I even begin?! This book. THIS BOOK!!!!!!!

B. A. Paris has written a spectacular book. Behind Closed Doors is a lesson in domestic noir/thrillers.

Going between the present and the past with Grace Angel, Paris paints two very different pictures with chilling repercussions.

I had a feeling when I started reading that I wouldn't want to stop, and I was right. I flew through this book, reading at every available moment!

I don't want to spoil any of the plot, so as per usual, I won't go into details! Sufficed to say, this book rattled me in so many ways. I felt pity, sadness, anger and so many other emotions during the course of this book.

I loved the way Paris created her characters. Initially, you are almost envious of Jack and Grace. Their lives seem perfect. Beautiful house, he's a handsome, successful alpha male, affluent lifestyle and so on. However, when the veil of domestic bliss is pulled back, the envy turns to disgust.

Behind Closed Doors grabs you by the hands and throws you on an emotional roller coaster. So full of twists and turns that you can just about hold on, and just when you think it's all over you're propelled forward to a compelling conclusion.

I gave Behind Closed Doors 5⭐️ on Goodreads.

Amazing. Just effortlessly brilliant. 😊📖

Another contender for book of the year. This is one dark, twisted rollercoaster of a ride!

As the blurb says, this book is about Jack and Grace. The supposedly perfect married couple, except what is the marriage really like behind closed doors? Arghhh I really want to start spilling all about the story, but to do so would ruin it for you as a reader. But it is safe to say that all is not as it seems, and behind the charade Jack is not quite the loving, devoted husband.

There has been lots of talk about this book on social media, and I bumped it up my reading list because I was so intrigued as to all the interest and gasps as people finished it. It lives up to the hype, and then some!

I love psychological thrillers that really have me on the edge of my seat, and have me unable to put the book down. I have to be honest, not only could I not put the book down, but at times I was barely able to breath for the tension. I was almost rushing through to get to what was going to happen next. The book had me in its grasp, hook, line and sinker, and didnt release me right until the very end.

I cannot believe this is the author's debut thriller. It is so superbly written it could easily pass for one of the well known names in this genre. The skill in the style of writing, being able to develop such strong characters, and totally consume me as a reader is breathtaking. I truly cannot wait to see what her next book brings.

Thank you to MIRA UK for kindly providing a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

To the outside world, Grace and Jack Angel have the perfect marriage. Jack is a successful Lawyer, whilst Grace was perfectly happy to give up her job to devote herself to being the perfect wife and if things go according to their plans, mother one day. Jack is handsome, wealthy and the perfect gentleman. Grace is slim and the perfect hostess. They live in their substantial dream home. Grace and Jack are also the legal guardian to Grace’s adored sister Milly, who has Downs Syndrome. Milly is expected to make the transition from her residential school to their home within the year.

Is Grace really content just to stay at home and ‘play house’ all day? Some may question why she doesn’t have a mobile phone or her own email account. Some may query why she cancels so many lunch dates. Others may wonder why there are numerous broken visits to see Milly. Lots of things may make others wonder as perfect marriages can sometimes be deceptive and who knows what goes on behind closed doors....

Simply put, this is THE ultimate psychological thriller. It is a horrifically dark, claustrophobic and tense read that will have your heart pounding and chill you to the bone. It is sick and twisted and highly disturbing. This book was totally unputdownable. It gripped me from start to finish and I read it in just two sittings (simply because sleep got in the way). It had me reassessing couples that I know, looking for things beneath the surface that I may have missed.

Believe all the hype about this book. In my opinion, this is going to become one of the biggest sellers of 2016. A solid five stars from me (only because I’m not allowed to give it six!)

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review.

OMG

I have read some fantastic books so far this year. This year I have a feeling is going to be awesome. I finished last year on a high and this year has started on a high for just awesomeness in book material.

Jack & Grace

They seem the most perfect of couples. Surely you have experienced it. The typically "forever happy, never row, never have a cross word, smiley at each other, gooey eyed seemingly perfect couple".

Do you get envious? Or do you think "hmm yeah yeah"

I am sure there are couples out there that get on very well, but the appearance of Jack and Grace and how they both conduct themselves in the public eye is nothing far from awesomeness. But behind closed doors...........

Yep, that is when you see Jack for what he is.

This is not an upsetting brutal man in the full sense of the word as in beatings, so don't be mislead that this may turn your stomach, because it won't.

I knew right from the start that I didn't like Jack. I felt very strongly where I wanted to kick him to make it hurt and worse.

Grace I thought at times was shallow, but the more I read the more I could understand her situation.

Who is going to believe her?
And when will she get any time to herself and an opportunity to even do anything remotely like changing her life situation.

The author has written a strong plot, a plot that will keep you engrossed so well you definitely won't be able to stop reading, if you need to sleep, be aware that you may not be able to, or at the least, wake to find yourself reaching for your book/kindle before even breakfast!
I kid you not, this is one awesome read.

Its strong, its solid, no flaws, the pitch the power and pace is just right for any reading to be pulled along its path.

The conclusion was SUPER.

Would I recommend this book to you?
Would I hell......YES, go get it NOW.
You won't be sorry you read this one. Seriously.

* I need to say Harlequin (UK) Limited via Net Galley and of course the author B. A. Paris for my copy*

Behind Closed Doors is the kind of book where you know almost straight away that's somethings not quite right but it's nothing that you can put your finger on straight away.

Grace and Jack are, from the outside, the perfect couple with the perfect life and they are the envy of their friends. Jack is a charming and successful lawyer and Grace is always by his side. Always.

The story is told by Grace and it goes from past to present so that you find out how she met Jack a year previously and see how their relationship develops.

The more you read, the more you are pulled in to Grace's claustrophobic life. Why can't anyone ever reach her on the phone? Why is she never available for lunch out with the girls? How does she stay so thin when she cooks such wonderful food? The answers to all of these questions and more soon become apparent and they are terrifying.

For a debut novel B A Paris has written a breath-taking story which I devoured in an afternoon and a book that I think truly deserves to be classed as a psychological thriller. I loved the way the tension built up and I was filled with trepidation the whole way through and as I was getting near the end I found myself reading faster and faster so that I could find out how it was going to end. As I read the last sentence I could feel a smile coming to my lips but of course I'm not going to tell you why, but what I will say is that if you're a fan of this genre you simply must read this book.

With kind thanks to NetGalley and publishers Mira for the review copy.

This book quite rightly has the twitter # StaySingle , a masterclass in everything a Domestic Noir Thriller should be!

I was totally and completely blown away by this book - a day after finishing it my stomach is still in knots of anxiety and I can't get the storyline out of my head!!

Skillfully weaving from past to present with a small but fabulous cast of characters, B.A.Paris had me hook line and sinker from the word go - my initiall intrigue quickly becoming an absolute NEED to know what happened.

I already know that this is one that will stay with me and will be deservedly huge in 2016, it's an absolute stonking read with the most chilling character and the tensest ending I've read for a long, long time.

Behind Closed Doors is is one of those rare books that I will rave about at any and every given opportunity, an absolute, unreserved 5 stars - read it now!!

Thanks to Harlequin UK at NetGalley for the ARC of this fantastic book

The Twitter hashtag for this book is #StaySingle. After reading this story, you will understand why.

They have only been married for a few months but Grace and Jack Angel appear to be the perfect couple. Jack is good looking and a successful lawyer who fights for the victims of domestic abuse. They have an enviable lifestyle and Grace has been able to give up her career and devote her time to looking after Jack in the beautiful house he has designed and had built for her. Anybody watching them would believe them to be madly in love, always together, always holding hands. To add to his perfection, Jack has taken Millie, Grace’s younger sister who has Down’s Syndrome to his heart and is embracing the idea of having her live with them once her time at a residential school comes to an end. They are the envy of their friends.

But behind closed doors…….

This is one of those books that will make you gasp. It is so terrifyingly realistic with mind games, clever manipulation and the thought processes in place to ensure always being one step ahead. The reader does not have to suspend disbelief here, it's not beyond the possibility that this could actually be someone's relationship! The chapters, told by Grace, flit between past and present and with each new revelation there were times when I was actually scared to read on.

I’m not going to go into any detail about the story – you need to discover this for yourself. It might make difficult reading for some but if you like your psychological thrillers dark and twisted then this is the book for you.

It’s disturbing, chilling, gripping and totally addictive – everything I look for in a thriller. Behind Closed Doors is the author’s debut novel and deserves to be THE thriller of 2016. It's certainly a contender for inclusion in my top books of the year.

At the time of publishing this post, it can be pre-ordered from Amazon UK - the download being just 99p. An absolute bargain!

My thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via Netgalley.

I think this is an outstandingly well written book. Its not an easy subject matter, and I didn't find it easy to read at times because it was so believable,if that makes sense.I'm also glad that there was no gratuitous violence it was a more psychological approach, and that was very scary.I wanted Grace to fight back and stop Jack but I didn't know how she could do it.The perfect couple on the outside and a marriage lived in terror for Grace on the inside.I'm not giving anything away but this is a page turner and you will want to read it as fast as you can to find out what happens.I thought it was an excellent book.

This really is a fantastic read. I was hooked from the very beginning. This book is about Grace and her husband Jack. In the beginning he is the perfect man but as soon as the ring is on her finger the mask comes off and the monster is revealed.

The thing I loved most about this book was the psychological element. I've read quite a lot of books about husbands that are bullies and there is a lot of physical violence in them but there is none of that in this book, the torture is all in the mind and I found it fascinating. In every way that I shouldn't. It also very terrifying the ease in which someone can gain so much control over you and also seeing the depths of evil that the human race is capable of. I think I'd be rather scared to meet the author knowing that she can write so brilliantly about such evil. However I think I'd find her fascinating too as her writing style is amazing - such tension! However, I have also hidden some money in a shoe incase my husband turns into said monster...very unlikely but this book was so realistic it did make me wary of him until I saw him in his batman onesie and all was right with the world.

This novel didn't have many twists in it and from the first chapter it tells you what's happening and where it's going and despite this it doesn't put you off. It still intrigues and draws you in. I started this book at 10pm (will I ever learn?) and read it until 2am! I felt tense and stressed the entire way through it and the fact I had such a visceral reaction all the way through is testament to the fantastic characters and writing.

Grace isn't your typical pushover she is strong and amazing and the way she deals with the horrifying ordeal is admirable. She isn't whiney or self absorbed she is a survivor and I enjoyed reading her thought process. I also have to mention how much I loved the character of Millie, I've never met a person with Downs syndrome but I can imagine that they are all as smart as Millie and I thought it really added another dimension to the story and was one of the best features of the book.

This is a fantastic psychological book and the first I've read of its kind and I loved it. It has such a satisfying ending (I loved Esther's role in this), I did know what had happened but it didn't make it any less interesting or gripping. This really is a great read and I will be pre-ordering this book straightaway! One of the best books I have read in 2015. This books is released 11th February 2016...get pre-ordering! I'm buying this for all my family.
