Description

‘Entertaining and true to life.’ - Katie Fforde

After nursing her sick husband William for eight years, forty-something widow Laura Brooke decides its time to move on with her life.

Though Laura secretly pines for Jack, her best friend Melanie’s husband, she knows they can never be together.

With the thought of love out of the picture, Laura decides her dreams of converting Pond Lane, the cottage her mother left her in Hampshire, into a Bed and Breakfast place must be realised...

But Laura doesn’t know where to begin; she needs money to renovate Pond Lane and William’s fleeting career as both an artist and co hotel owner with Laura, left her with nothing.

Desperate for a solution, Laura asks her stingy stepfather if she can have some of the inheritance her mother left, and isn’t surprised when he tells her she can’t.

With no one else to turn to, Laura momentarily abandons her dream.

Her struggle pushes her to consider selling the cottage…

Moved by Laura’s circumstances, Bridget decides she must help her friend in some way.

She confides in her cousin Oliver Farringdon and manages to set Laura up with a job opportunity abroad – in Paris.

Oliver is a busy Ambassador to an international organisation – he’s divorced, but seeing a sophisticated but snooty French woman called Agnes.

He is looking to hire someone to supervise his sexually curious but awkward teenage daughter, Charlotte.

Laura knows leaving muddy Hampshire for the lush Parisian life will help her put things in perspective for Pond Lane, but doesn’t know that her decision will throw her in a new game of love, lust and betrayal.

As Oliver starts to appreciate Laura's quiet competence, he realises he must have her – as a wife.

But his dedication to the diplomatic life and secret meetings with Agnes, make Laura realise this isn’t what she wants or who she wants.

Laura finds herself torn between two men and two places…

What will she choose?

Will she manage to save her beloved cottage?

And can she find love somewhere in between Pond Lane and Paris?

Pond Lane and Paris was nominated for the RNA Foster Grant Award.
