Description
Suicide - the act of taking one's own life. Homicide - the act of taking someone else's.
An unethical banker suffocates. A diamond dealer slits his wrists. A media magnate freezes in the snow. A disgraced CEO inhales exhaust fumes. Four unpopular businessmen, four apparent suicides. Until Interpol find the same DNA at each death. Beatrice Stubbs, on her first real case since 'the incident', arrives in Switzerland to lead the investigation. But there's more to Zurich than chocolate and charm. Potential suspects are everywhere, her Swiss counterpart is hostile and the secretive world of international finance seems beyond the law. Battling impossible odds by day and her own demons at night, Beatrice has never felt so alone. She isn't. Someone's watching. Someone else who believes in justice. The poetic kind.

What a wonderful team of oddball detectives following an unusual series of crimes. Some elements in this book are nothing new: murders made to look like suicides, one of the twists in the end, the internal bureaucracy that the detectives have to put up with or the leaks to the press; but it is the characters that made this a truly enjoyable, original read. Their banter and interactions, their quirks and the inimitable sense of humor had me laughing out loud. I particularly loved Beatrice's odd turns of phrase and her love-hate relationship with Herr Kälin, who ended up growing on me. Beatrice is also a great character on her own: she’s bipolar and is just coming back after trying to end her life. I was rooting for her and hope to see more of her, as this is part of a series.
Thank you net Galley. A well written book with enough twists and turns to keep you hooked and going non-stop. Looking forward to more in the series.
