Nourish and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of I Love Soup, in exchange for an honest review.
I Love Soup is a cookbook regarding one of the quintessential comfort foods: soup. Laid out in a straightforward manner, with sections for Meat and Game, Poultry, Fish and Shellfish, Vegetables and Grains, and Chilled Soups, this comprehensive guide also introduces readers to the techniques and basic recipes that are building blocks. There are tips and explanations, especially helpful for mastering this deceptively complex category of food. I particularly liked the Accompaniments section, which includes tempting recipes such as Wholemeal Irish Soda Bread (p. 15), Polenta Dumplings (p. 17), and Croutons (p. 18).
Beautiful and inviting photographs are scattered throughout the cookbook, showing the finished results in the best possible light. With so many main dish recipes to choose from, readers will have no trouble discovering old favorites and new possibilities to try. What I like the most about this cookbook is that the author scoured the globe for its offerings. With such recipes as Vietnamese Beef and Noodle Soup (p. 25), Osso Buco Soup with Gremolata (p. 32), Chicken-Udon Hotpot (p. 64), Scandinavian Salmon and Prawn Soup (p. 104), and Egyptian Aubergine and Tomato Soup (p. 131), readers can visit many new places from the comfort of their own homes. I highly recommend this cookbook to readers of all skill levels in the kitchen, as the straightforward recipes can be accomplished by all who desire to try.
