This is the first book in a series featuring DS Jessica Daniel. I love locked-door mysteries and this one is good. A woman is found murdered in her apartment and, you guessed it, all the doors and windows are locked and the keys accounted for. How did the murderer get in and out? That is what Jessica will try to figure out, with the help of her team. I read a lot of novels featuring flawed but strong female detectives, and Jessica could hold her own against any one of them. She is a little too immature and inexperienced for my liking (seriously people, it's called backup, you have a cell phone, use it!). Still, being her very first outing, hopefully she will learn from her mistakes and become the kickass lady we know she can be. The plot is tight and moves along seamlessly. Red herrings abound, but they may relate more to the case than I originally thought. Other parts, led me astray though, so it was fun to be surprised by some of the twists. That said, I saw whodunit from the beginning, even if the reasons were unclear. I look forward to the next installment, as the novel is well written and the characters fun.

First off, I forgot what this book was about when I downloaded it...so I went into it blindly. I have to admit, I kinda liked not knowing what I was getting into when I began reading. Secondly, I now want to read this series and its not available in America.......yet! Ugh! So that's a little frustrating. By the way, the U.K.'s book is called: Locked In.

I really liked the character of Jessica. I liked her sarcasm, I liked the fact that she wasn't some kick-ass-I can do everything chick. You can tell she was somewhat out of her depth with this series of murders. She was a "real" character that you would meet anywhere and that's what I enjoyed most from this book. Its because of Jessica that I want to read the rest of this series. I want to find out more about her and see her grow as a character and a police detective. The crimes themselves were interesting. They weren't the most complex murders and if I'm honest, I actually kinda guessed who the murderer was half-way through the book. But in no way did it stop me from enjoying the rest of the novel. (I'm usually not good at guessing right, either!)
