Hannah Monroe,a senior Manager for a large firm of accountants is having a really good day and was actually singing to herself as she walked up the path to her house. She had just returned from a training course, her speech had gone really well and it looked like she was on track for a promotion to director. She couldn't wait to share her wonderful news with Matt her boyfriend of four years but when she enters her home she discovers that Matt and all his belongings are gone. She then discovers that he hasn't been at work for weeks,it's like he has erased all evidence that he ever existed. After Hannah begins a frantic obsessive search to find Matt strange things start happening and she begins to get the unsettling feeling that she is being watched.
This is a thrilling mystery that is voiced completely by Hannah who is not a very likeable character for reasons that I cannot explain without giving away too much information because certain elements of her character are pivotal to the plot. Many of the characters are untrustworthy and I had my doubts about what they did or did not know and how much they were involved in Matt's disappearance as the story unfolded.
The story hooked me in from the first page and has one hell of a twist that completely changed my perception of everything that I had read. It's a gripping, intreguing story that keeps the reader guessing and has no parts that come across as padding. It has short chapters and the story flows along nicely.I thought this was Mary Torjussens first book but apparently she has two others both of which I will definitely be getting hold of and I look forward to reading more books written by her in the future
Fantastic suspense, I couldn't put it down. Definitely in my top 5 book's of this year.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the first page to the last . I did not see the twist coming at all and I am usually astute in this respect so the author did a very good job at keeping the suspense going all the way through. I look forward very much to her next novel and would without a doubt recommend this one.
I really enjoyed reading this great psychological thriller. The pace was good and the story kept me guessing with a great twist at the end.
I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
Gripped from the very first page, this book was a real page turner and made for compulsive reading. At times I could feel my heart pumping with anticipation.
The character Hannah is well created and whilst part of me felt empathy for her , the other part of me wanted to shake her as I felt she was a bit of a pathetic character.
Just when I thought I knew what was going on, there was another twist and turn. No one could predict where this story would go, which was what made it so readable for me.
4.5 stars
From the authors name I thought this was going to be a Scandinavian book where the story loses so much in translation. Wrong !!Strong characters and some surprising twists. Well worth a read
Hannah Munroe has just returned from a successful training course. It was looking like she was going to get a promotion and she could not wait to get home and tell her boyfriend Matt.
When she gets home the house is in darkness and Matt and all his possessions have gone. The next thing she discovers is all heis details have been removed from her phone, e-mails etc. She has no way of contacting him. It's like Matt never existed. She also finds out he has not been at work for weeks. Hannah begins a frantic search to find Matt. Then strange things start to happen and Hannah feels she is being watched.
This is a gripping story which is told by Hannah. I was quickly drawn int by this book and I could not put it down. This book will keep you guessing.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Headline and the author Mary Torjussen for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book and I could have finished it in one sitting as the more you read the more complex it gets. No spoilers but the ending is brilliant and for me totally unexpected. If you like psychological thrillers this book can definitely be recommended
I was gripped by this book from the very beginning. The suspense throughout kept me engrossed until I had finished reading it., which I did in one sitting. A great page turner!
My review as posted on Goodreads:
I was attracted to this by the setting on the Wirral, I was born there.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. The start was quite gentle, but I found myself drawn in to the story by the chatty style and subtle way that the characters were introduced and developed.
There were times when I thought it was going to become a little predictable, but as the relationship between Hannah and missing Matt was explored and developed, I found that I needed to find out more.
There are plenty of possible routes through this type of 'missing presumed' genre novels, but I found the twist in this to be fairly well concealed. It came as a surprise.
I will certainly look out for other titles by Mary Torjussen based on this book.
I give thanks to Netgalley and Headline for a copy in exchange for this review.
Wow, one of the best books I have read for a long time. Really couldn't put it down. The twists keep coming right up until the end. Really enjoyed it.
Gone Without A Trace. 4* from me.
Hannah returns home to the house she shares with her boyfriend Matt only to find that Matt has not just disappeared but there is absolutely no trace of Matt at all.
A really gripping page turner. Had me hooked from the first chapter. Where is Matt, what's happened to him?
One to recommend.
My thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
Wow this was a roller coaster of a book, I thought it was terrific, I did work out some of the plot line but not very much and I was reading as fast as I could especially towards the end the pace was fantastic and the plot was too.I thought it was a really good read and can't wait for more from this author. Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Gone Without A Trace
'A chilling, twisty, compulsive thriller about a woman whose boyfriend has vanished.'
What a brilliantly gripping read, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher. 4*
This was a truly compelling book, well written, with an original plot and realistic characters. I just had to read it whenever I had a free minute - it was that gripping! In a clever way, we were fed little snippets of information that only fell into a complete puzzle right at the end. I thought the epilogue worked really well, summing up the story line perfectly.
I usually enjoy reading books with unreliable narrators and Hannah was one of the best. I can't wait to read more from this author. Four and a half stars.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.
From the very first page I was hooked. A real page turner with characters well represented and enough twists and turns to keep you enthralled. Brilliant and well recommended. I look forward to this author's next books with relish.
Great read, gripped from the beginning. Totally unpredictable. Highly recommend
Hannah lives with Matt. One day Matt disappears without a trace, its as though he never existed. Hannah becomes obsessed with finding him.
A great thriller with the suspense building until bang there is a twist and what a twist!
Wow what can I say, this book had me captured from the start and kept me guessing. What a twist, talk about a bolt from the blue!
Well written, great plot and loved the build up to the great reveal.
