Description
1944. 23-year-old Harry Curtis is a high-flying soldier hero, the pride of the British Army…
His war record is impressive, his courage unmatched.
That’s why he has been asked to undertake a virtual suicide mission.
Harry has been asked to kill Hitler.
Despite all expectations, he fully intends to return from Germany and marry his fiancée.
His fiancée, however, has other ideas.
The mission descends into catastrophe and Harry finds himself stranded in the countryside, wounded and desperately ill.
Only the care of a local woman saves his life. A woman, called Jutta, who intrigues him.
But Jutta disappears.
The years pass and Harry’s army career goes from strength to strength. He marries an aristocratic beauty, the heiress to a fortune, and they have a son.
Life seems idyllic.
At least, it seems idyllic from the outside.
In fact, Harry’s marriage is breaking down. Desperate to escape the pressure and missing the excitement of combat, Harry eventually takes a job in Malaysia.
Upon arrival, he meets a face from the past – Jutta. Twice married since they parted, she has something of a reputation.
They spend the night together and once again Jutta saves Harry’s life.
A would-be assassin lies dead in their hotel room. The police are called. And very soon, the story is all over the international press.
Jutta returns to her husband and their plantation in the Malaysian jungle.
Harry goes into the jungle too – but his job is to fight the communist insurgency.
It is only a matter of time until their worlds and lives collide again.
Meanwhile, Harry’s wife and Jutta’s husband are well aware of their spouses’ illicit relationship.
When his wife arrives to confront him, Harry knows that she is in danger. But she does not listen to his warnings and ends up in the hands of the insurgents.
And so the threads of Harry’s life are drawn together, as his wife and lover are drawn irretrievably into his professional life, and his determination to defeat the insurgents is strengthened by the very real threat they pose to the woman he loves – and the woman he is married to.
As bullets, knives and even flaming arrows fly, will Harry finally be free to live with the woman he truly loves, or has he finally met his military match?
