Time for honesty is a heart warming enjoyable read. written at a nice pace. You will like Emmeline,
Magda and even Vera, might dislike Julie and Emmeline's husband Leo to. You'll even like,
some of the new people that come into her life after everything she's been through.
.So if, and when you get a chance, pick up a copy and enjoy.
An easy to read book that I enjoyed. Recommended to anyone with a few hours to themselves.
This is the first book that I have read by this author. I enjoyed spending time in Norway and also enjoyed getting to know the characters. The book was a good and absorbing read.
Loved this descriptive emotional read filled with secrets and a little mystery. I also love the townspeople of Solvik and looking forward to the rest of the series. Emmelin must make decisions about her future for her and her son. Dennis is still in love with Emmelin and they both have secrets. When secrets are revealed lives change. Recommended Read
This is the first book i have read by Mette Barfelt. Time for honesty was a good read. It's basically about life in general. The ups and down , the struggles and the joy. It takes place in Norway and about a women stuck in an unhappy marriage, a very selfish husband, her sister and her have a rather poor relationship. After her mother passes away, her life is turn upside down with choices to make to start a new life, but wait !!!! There is a man from her past and a child she gave away. This story was very believable , however in my opinion it drug out a bit, I think it could have been shorter and got the same effect or maybe two separate stories ? There were times when I skipped over pages thinking is this ever going to end. Yes I would recommend it to a friend, but also give them the heads up that it is a very slow moving book.
I really enjoyed this book,it made me feel like I was there, good cakes, good place to live, this book is a must read
I really struggled with this one. I just was not drawn to the characters, their struggles or their situations. It started off well enough but I found difficult to connect or feel any sympathy towards the main character.
It was a nice story with all the right elements - an independent woman trying to balance her career and family , long lost first love, great friends to help navigate through tough times.Loved the small town life description and Emmellin's character.
However even with all the elements there, the writing doesn't quite touch your heart. There were so many moments - Emmellin's meeting with Dennis and Karoline, first meet of Oliver - Karoline, Dennis-Karoline- basically all of the important ones that could have been described better. The words really failed at capturing the enormity of the moments.
Story could have been lifted to entire different level with better writing.
What a great book....Mette Barfield did a great job of placing the reader in the scene. I cheered for Emmelin and loved that she got out of a bad situation for her and her son and was able to strike out on her own. I am not sure I would have been as easy on forgiving her sister as Emmelin was. Emmelin went through a lot in her life and was able to come out of it and achieve. Loved the book and would look forward to reading more of her books.
**3.5 stars**
This book caught my eye while I was looking for something light and I was drawn to the fact that it was set in Norway in a small town.
It did tick all the boxes, a husband I loved to dislike, a jealous sister, inhabitants of a small town that looked after each other. Actually, I was really enjoying this book until it came to the typical romance 'miscommunication'. Sometimes I just want a romance book that doesn't have it and where this came into play, I wasn't really anticipating it. I felt the storyline had enough things going on in it, that it could have done without it. BUT I don't think this is really a reflection of the book but more of my mood at the time of reading.
That said, it was an enjoyable easy read and I felt it translated very well. I would certainly consider reading the following books in the series once they are translated.
