An intelligent, witty and informative magazine!
An exciting quarterly edited by the very insightful and talented editor-in-chief, Rachel Hyland. I do enjoy her writing style and this RI Quarterly reflects her quiet humorous turn of phrase and ability to use that when cutting to the chase.
The breadth of Romantic Intentions amazed me. From written word to film types featuring an overwhelming array of the romantic in various genres. Historical romance through to SciFi. Interviews with authors, book reviews to tantalize! Totally encompassing!
The Quarterly had me jumping between my "go to" booksellers and library, adding new authors to my upcoming titles lists, and alternatively, making new title requests to my library to make sure I didn't miss out.
Although I have been somewhat tardy in posting this review, let me just say that for a serious romance reading fan the Romantic Intentions Quarterly is well worth the investment!
A couple of gems:
Yes Means YES! –Consent in Romance is So Hot Right Now, by Kate Nagy.
A fascinating essay focusing on that "romance novels lately seem extra-scrupulous about asking for permission in the boudoir."
Another favorite! (full confession I am absolutely a die hard fan of Liaden Universe 💝)
Hyland's look at romantic undertones in Sharon Lee and Steve Miller's addictive universe. A unique exploration.

This journal is a great new resource for all things on romance. There are reviews, articles and loads of lists of upcoming books. If you like romance, this is well worth a look.
This title is the perfect recommend for all the romance lovers. Losing Romantic Times Magazine was brutal and this is the new go-to I'm suggesting to all the romance lovers. I always love interviews and it's wonderful that it includes film and TV.
Yeah! and many other superlatives. Finally, a great magazine in quarterly format with a ton of categories. I really enjoyed the various books and snippets presented, especially books that are coming soon and books from the past listed in very well-defined categories. Thank you and please, may we have many more issues.
This newsletter could have been great. Unfortunately, it's poorly laid out; you have to page through the entire thing, there is no place to look at all the reviews or all the interviews/conversations. I enjoyed the mini-reviews from a variety of writers, but not enough to want to read this again.
What a treat for omnivoracious lovers of all things Romance. RI Quarterly brings us reviews of all genres of romance novels, but widens the field to include must watch (or in some cases must-avoid) television series and movies. With a couple of fun interviews of stars of the genre Julia London, talking about her career and her upcoming books, and Sarah Wendell of Smart Bitches Trashy Books, reading RIQ is a real pleasure. And incidentally, it will have you whipping out your card to order some of the top-rated pre-releases that will be landing in June and July. Do it again in July, please!
Wonderful new magazine
Rachel Hyland Editor-in-Chief and her staff did an excellent job with this the first issue of their magazine that covers much more than romance books. Romance is covered in books, TV, Film and life, and covered well. There are a wide variety of genres covered and a nod to the past and how public attitudes have changed and the books and shows reflect that.
I look forward to reading the next issue.
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley.
This is a great quarterly magazine. It gives a few articles, some romance book reviews, Even some movies, tv shows etc. a little bit of everything. Looking forward to future issues.
A fun and insightful read full of great recommendations and interviews! I've been turned on to a few new authors thanks to this, as well as some books by authors I already know and enjoy. I only wish it had been longer!
I was hoping this magazine was like the Romantic Times but I was very disappointed. It contained a lot of reviews from very old books that are not even available now. But I was reading it until I reached an article by Kate Nagy that offended me. I do not care about her personal agenda or politics but I think everyone should show respect for the president. Her name calling and language,( the use of the F word) is not something that I want to read or to condone.
Here is the very first issue of Romantic Intentions Quarterly! As the name entails, this was designed for romance fiction lovers. Along with wonderful book reviews, insightful and often humorous author interviews, films, TV and more are also reviewed. I see binge-watching in my future.
Issue 1 makes a awesome debut. What is great is that there are plenty of reviews of previously published books, as well as reviews on releases from April until June. I will definitely be reading every future release. Here I am reviewing a digital magazine that includes hundreds of reviews and I immediately started putting books in my cart and/or wish list that I will inevitably review myself.
Thank you Overlord Publishing and NetGalley for this issue to review.
