Letters From The War is an emotional story that did have me crying a few times. A good book

I received a free electronic copy of this historical novel from Netgalley, Amanda Bryant, and BooksGoSocial. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me. I have read Letters From the War of my own volition and this review reflects my honest opinion of this work.

Amanda Bryant brings us an intimate look into the hearts and minds of those tasked with fighting a war and missing those loved ones at home. This is done for the most part through letters from sailor Frank Jones patrolling in the Atlantic and his lady love, Miss LaDonna Singleton of Boise, Idaho. We see through his eyes the cost of war, and the exhaustion and boredom on those tours where nothing happens, the pain and angst when something does happen, and the joy that connections from the homeland bring. I very much enjoyed this work. Though short, it was representative of the sacrifices made by the folk of all sorts when politics break down and mediation becomes open warfare.

Letters From the War by Amanda Bryant is a beautifully written novel of a young girl whose life is changed when she finds a box full of letters that her grandmother has hidden. The letters reveal a secret family history...but was it better left hidden?

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this enjoyable novel.

WOW! Just... WOW! Bryant delivered an amazing look into the real lives of America's Greatest Generation. It was funny and sad and so very touching. Her handling of the letters was compassionate and obviously a work of love.

This work of fiction so well interlaced with real letters from WWII soldiers it quickly makes one forget it is a fictional story. The characters and the people in the letters come to life. The opening makes one feel connected, as if there, walking the rooms one by one for what may be the last time. Seeing the history, the love, the family that had truly lived there. As the letters unfold, they wrap themselves around the readers heart. Beautiful story, beautifully told.

Thank you Ms. Bryant.

This was a very interesting read. History, drama, and the secrets kept all made for a great story. I will keep my eyes on this author.

While the idea of this book is romantic the story and execution left a lot to be desired. When the books says "letters from the War" it is literally letters from a soldier to his girlfriend/wife during the war. He ultimately becomes the CO of the USS Bismark. The letters were repetative and they were all written from the soldier. There are only hints about what was written from the woman to the soldier.
The romantic part was when the woman's grandaughter finds all the soldier's letters in an old candy tin. Unfortunately that was the only good part. The end left the reader hanging in a BIG way. I would like to thank Books Go Social and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

On finishing this book I am not sure if I was reading a complete book or just the first half. On the positive side it was interesting to read about a WW2 naval man's experience of the war, and the monotony of ship life came across. However the main voice was annoying and whiny and I am really not sure such a man would have been as promoted as quickly as he was in non battle circumstances.
I am not a US naval history expert but there did seem to be a lot of leave granted.
Totally unsatisfactory.

I loved that this was for the most part a collection of letters between two people during WWII. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in this type of book.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion of it.

Letters From The War' by Amanda Bryant is a heartfelt story about two people who fell in love during WWII. The couple maintained their relationship through love letters. This book was a quick read because the letters were sometimes repetitive. Because of the repetitiveness of the letters, the story was slow to unfold. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

A tragic love story, unfortunately, all too common during this period in history. The book itself was simply a series of letters written during WWII. Honestly, I skipped through many parts of the letters because they all said basically the exact same thing. I would like to know more about what happened afterwards. Did she make contact with this unknown family?
