I am beyond excited to have been given the opportunity to have a sneak peak at The Silent Patient via NetGalley. With that said, I can hardly wait for the rest of the book to arrive. I am going to be stalking my mailbox, that is a given. We were given the first seven chapters to read and they did not disappoint.
The story opens up with Alicia Berenson covered in blood after tying her husband up and shooting him in the head at close range. How is that for immediately drawing you in? The thing is, it gets even better. The story is told from her psychotherapist's point of view. Alicia refuses to talk. Complete and utter silence since the murder. Not even to defend herself. Six years later still silent. Why? Has she gone completely mad? Or is it something else?
Wow, every so often you come across a book that you immediately know, yep this is going to be a great one. Well I got this feeling. The writer managed to make time stand still as I flew through the seven chapters. I want more!!!! Looking forward to receiving the rest via mail. Until we meet again Alicia.......

This excerpt is great
Alicia Berenson is a brilliant artist and so full of life. Why then does she shoot her husband five times in the head late one evening after he comes home from work? This is a question that has never been answered as Alicia has been silent ever since her husband’s death. It is now six years later and Alicia is locked up at The Grove’s secure psychiatric unit and still remains silent.
Theo Faber is a psychotherapist determined to get through to Alicia. Alicia is lost and he is determined to find her. Theo is also working through his own issues due to the abuse he suffered through the hands of his father. Will he manage to get through to Alicia and finally piece together what happened that tragic evening?
I normally do not read excerpts this far in advance, but the premise of The Silent patient really called out to me. The mystery surrounding the murder of Alicia’s husband is done so brilliantly. I found myself needing to know what happens next. Alex Michaelides’ writing just draws you right into the scenery and you can’t help but feel sorry for Alicia and her situation. I anticipate that The Silent Patient is going to be one of the top thrillers that will debut in early 2019 and be on the radar of every single thriller fan out there.
I don't normally read samples but the early buzz around twitter had me so incredibly intrigued that I couldn't possibly resist.
These first few chapters are insanely gripping and I found myself hooked from the very first page. Why has Alice been silent for all these years? Why is it so important to Theo that she talk? What really happened on the night Alice's husband was murdered? So many questions that need answers! It's easy to see why this is being pushed as one of the thrillers of 2019 and I'll be anxiously awaiting its publication day. Is it February yet?
Artist Alicia Berenson shot her husband six years ago. Since then, she has been silent and not spoken a single word, only one painting created immediately after the deed expressed her feelings and made her one of the most hated murderers in the country. Forensic psychiatrist Theo Faber has always followed the case with intense interest. Now he is one his way to work with her and he hopes that he can make her talk and explain what happened on that night in their home. Orion Publishing provided the first few chapters of Alex Michaelides’ thriller “The Silent Patient” which are immediately captivating. Two fascinating protagonists who promise quite a riveting story.
Having read this short teaser I have to say I’m completely intrigued and desperate to know more. What really happened between Alicia and her husband and can Theo ever get her to talk?
I love the narrative style of this piece and the opening chapter which promises so many more secrets to be uncovered. Definitely a brilliant way to start a novel and has left me wanting more.
I only needed to read the first few pages to be completely captivated by this novel. A gripping story from the beginning and I can't wait to read more.
Ah, this is such a tease! Just as I was well & truly hooked......THAT'S IT?! So onto the TBR list it goes. The first few chapters hold the promise of a spooky, mysterious story that will end up being a one-sit read. I'll be keeping my beady eyes on the lookout for this one.
July 14: Alicia loves Gabriel so much
August 25: Gabriel is brutally murdered by said wife
There's already so much intrigue right from the start! Such a compelling start of the novel, I can't wait to find out why Alicia is refusing to talk. I adore the early reference to a greek tragedy and I'm curious about the Alcestis. The most pressing question will however be: is Alicia mad or not? The author makes her a brilliantly unreliable narrator in the month leading up to the murder. Theo Faber, psychotherapist, is a very interesting character on its own, and I have faith that he will be able to draw it out of her. A very gripping extract that really tickles my fancy!
Amazing! The excerpt kept me so hooked! Now I want the rest of the book, I felt myself getting attached to the characters already! The writing was amazing and kept me emersed!
I've just raced through the extract and I'm now desperate to get my hands on the rest of the book. Alex Michaelides writing is so gripping and Alicia and Theo both have me intrigued, what, if anything, is Alicia going to reveal to Theo about the murder of her husband and why is he so interested in her? I can't wait to find out what happens next!
What a fabulous teaser to the full book. I'm now totally intrigued. Great writing and great characterisation and the premise is very chilling. Looking forward to reading the full book! I'll tweet something tomorrow!
Just finished my early extract of The Silent Patient.
😮👏. Can’t wait to find out where this is heading!!!
Thank you Poppy Stimpson and Netgalley for the chance to read and review. 😀
Wow! This is an incredible start to this book. I was gripped and now I can't wait to see what happens in this intriguing, thought provoking book.
The opening chapters drew me in immediately. It is mysterious, intriguing and the characters are fascinating. I enjoyed the more in-depth psychological detail.
I cannot wait to read the rest of the book.
It’s rare for me to read an extract but I’m glad that I chose to read this as soon as I was given the opportunity to do so. Within the opening chapters you meet a killer, who chooses to remain silent and her psychotherapist who is determined to encourage her to open up. I loved the intrigue, the possible acrimonious work relationship and the feeling that this will be wonderful novel that I suspect will be one of the top books for 2019.
Why does Alicia refuse to talk? Why is it so important for Theo to get answers? And what really happened on the night of the murder? I can’t wait to read more.
