I don't like these illustrations nearly as much as the illustrations for the rest of the books in the series.
I'm a big JA fan, so I loved this book. The illustrations are sweet, with a mix of watercolor, crayon, and maybe markers. Very familiar and accessible to young children. The whole series is sweet and encouraging.

Well crafted book great for young readers. The illustrations are well done and the information is perfectly added. This is a nice way to learn about this author and her life. A fan of Jane Austen no matter the age will enjoy the thought and skill that went into this book. This is a delight to read and the illustrations a joy to see along the way too.
Cute tale of how a young bookworm became one of the most popular female writers in England. I love the fact that Sanchez Vergara chose Austen as a subject matter!
Another in this fantastic series teaching both kids and adults alike about the many amazing women out there, and that you should always be willing to chase your dreams. Also, an author I love and especially around the 100 year anniversary of her death it’s lovely to see so many new people introduced to her and her work.
This is another brilliant addition to this series – even as an adult I look out for the next book in the series being released. I love the images in this series and this is a delightful introduction to Jane Austen.
They are excellent introductions to some of the well-known, and less well-known, characters that have had a great impact in our lives through a variety of subjects such as literature, women’s rights and science.
5 stars from me for this one – a delightful read and one I will be highly recommending!!
Lovely way to get children to know famous female writers such as Jane Austen. This book is a delight and really sweet.
Another fantastic offering in the Little People Big Dreams series. I’ll be recommending this interesting introduction to Jane Austen to our older KS2 children at school as they’re introduced to classical authors through their English lessons. I think it will help to provide context to what they are reading in an accessible and interesting way.
Easy and fun way to learn about people in history. Great illistrations. Kids will love to learn by reading this book. Would recommend.
Great picture book for children with simple words for them to understand. I love this series and will be checkin other books.
Little People, Big Dreams is a series of nonfiction children’s books focused on famous women, past and present. Jane Austen is the first I’ve read in this series and it is absolutely wonderful! The illustrations are beyond charming and the information is pitch perfect for young children. It is essentially a quick biography, covering Jane’s early childhood and education, and explaining how it is that she came to be one of the most famous writers of all time. Also discussed is some of the experiences that influenced her stories. And, it addresses how different the world was for girls back then.
What can I say? Children’s books that highlight women who are historically significant? Outstanding illustrations? And in this case, Jane Austen, who is one of my particular favorites? Wins all around! I will certainly be buying a print copy of this book to share with my children.
Note: I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley. I pride myself on writing fair and honest reviews.
I just love this series. All the books are so sweet and do a great job of breaking down the lives for young readers/listeners.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book, which I voluntarily chose to review.
This book is a perfect way to teach children about Jane Austen. It is an abridged version of this remarkable British author's life that kids can easily understand.
Little Jane was born into a large family with seven brothers and sisters. She observes that girls are not given the same privileges as boys and inside of her she feels that is unfair. Her father includes her and her sister in classes that he teaches to the sons of wealthy men at their home. It is there that Jane falls deeply in love with books and choses to read over play with her dolls. She spends endless hours pouring through books in her parent's library.
She and her siblings often write and perform their own plays and every night around the fireplace the family sits happily and listens to Jane's stories that she writes. As an adult she writes books that inspired young women to be independent and think for themselves. Encouraging them to make their own decisions about their lives and not depend on others. Her novels are read and loved by all and she writes them anonymously .... "By a Lady." Only her family members and a few close friends know she is the true author. Her brother, Henry, finally reveals her identity to the public after her death.
The illustrations are sweet and the author includes extra facts at the back of the book about this inspiring writer. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
This series from Frances Lincoln Children's Books is absolutely wonderful! Featuring famous women from history we are treated to the life, challenges and successes of one woman per book in the Little People, Big Dreams series. This edition is #11 in the series and it features Jane Austen. How perfect for a book to be about Jane; given that she gave us some of the most beloved stories ever.
I like how the drawings and words are sophisticated enough without being too difficult for even a 4-year-old to enjoy when read to. It's particularly great that the book points out how Austen was not allowed to do the things her brothers did and did not put her name on her books. I think the average little girl will ask why to the reader, so be prepared to answer why Jane didn't use her real name.
Overall this is a lovely little book. And I look forward to more of the books in this series including those on Lucy Maud Montgomery, Marie Curie or Amelia Earhart. There are so few women in history that our little girls can truly look up to, and it can be difficult for children to understand how different the world was before, or even is now depending on the ethnicity, race, class, etc. that the child is born into. These books are an excellent way to inspire children to be anything they want to be; even if someone tries to tell them they can't.
Please note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review.
New in the Little People, Big Dreams series, discover the incredible life of Jane Austen. The text and illustrations show Jane as a child standing and watching her brothers while she and her sister have to help her mother. The author, Isabel Sanchez Vegara’s makes the point that Jane Austen is lucky that her father educated her with the boys he taught so she was able to read and write. She told and wrote stories which she and her siblings acted out or listened to her read long into the evening. Her first novel, "Pride and Prejudice" was based upon an actual situation in her own life, but with a happier ending. This is a child friendly biography that shows a young woman striving to achieve her dream. It is also important to stress that she wrote about strong and determined women at a time that this trait was looked down on. This book could be used to teach young children how to write a biography, show that it is important to have a dream and strive to achieve it as well as to introduce one of the greatest authors of our time to a new generation. A good book for a school library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book to read via netgalley. The rating, opinions and ideas stated are my own.
My review appears on Weekend Notes. Thanks to the publishers for sharing this title. It's a great series for kids.
Thank you Quatro Publishing and Net Galley for the free review copy. I love biographies for children, and this series by Isabel Sanchez Vegara is great. Fans of Jane Austen will love this for their kids! Jane Austen's story is presented in a clear way for young readers. I think these are great books for kids who have an interest in nonfiction. I would definitely recommend this book.
This is the Second Book I've read from Little People, Big Dreams and I found Jane Austen by Isabel Sanchez Vegara was a colourful and had good Illustrations book, but but not as powerful as the last book I read from this series. Its a brief biography of Jane Austen, which will capture the attention of younger children.
Thanks to Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Little People, Big Dreams: Jane Austen is a sweet introduction to the life of author Jane Austen. I adore the Little People, Big Dreams series; they do an excellent job of introducing historical figures to young readers. The illustrations are delightful. While Austen's life is shared in the form of a story, there are few pages at the end discussing her in more detail.
We just adore these books, and as a lover of Austen books this was a particular delight to share with my kids! Although the words are excellent - clear and concise, it's the illustration I most admire. Read them all x
