I really enjoyed reading this book from the off. Good characters and a storyline that keeps you captivated and intrigued as you read through the book. Happily recommend it!
A juicy twisty tale of jealousy and deception. Not that original as others have said but it still made for an enjoyable romp in my opinion. I’ve seen comments regarding how a “40-odd-year-old intelligent female” wouldn’t swear like that etc…well I’m older and I can be a right toilet gob when I’m not working in the corporate world haha.
A nice easy read reminiscent of Mary Higgins Clark (but better) and those popular Lifetime movies, you know the ones. Relatable characters and there’s nothing wrong with a happy ending!
My thanks to Penguin UK – Michael Joseph and NetGalley for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I adore Jane Fallon's sharp-witted novels, and this one was, like the others I have read, absolutely brilliant!
It's the story of friendship, and how you think you know someone...
When I could see who the antagonist was from fairly early on, I thought I had sussed the whole book out, and admit I felt a bit miffed at finding out so soon. But, oh me of little faith, OF COURSE that wasn't the aim of the story at all. Of course Jane Fallon is a much more intelligent writer than that!
It's refreshing to read about relationships in the workplace, without romance being involved. After all, many of us spend most of our waking hours with our colleagues. It was interesting reading how the dynamics changed for Holly when she got her promotion.
There is so much bitterness and jealousy hidden by one particular friend, and poor Holly has to try her best not to let it affect her chance of getting through her probationary period. But it's not going to be easy...
It's a fabulous read, and I relished reading every single page.
Another great read from Jane Fallon. A modern day tale of friendships - good and bad. . Even once you know who the baddie is there are still twists & turns to keep you reading to the very end.
I love Jane Fallon's books and this one is no exception. I actually read it over 2 nights because I got so engrossed in it, took me back to all the office dramas I've had over the years and I felt like I was working in their office. Enjoyable read.
A best friend or someone trying to sabotage her work? Holly cannot believe that the friend in whom she confided so much, including her resume, is undermining her recent promotion. and what about the lodger? The twists and turns in this story held me engaged so that I did not want to put it down!
I read it whilst on holiday and would say it’s the ideal holiday read.
This was my first time reading this author. I really enjoyed this book. The story kept me engaged & i would recommend to friends.
For Holly life is just starting to fall into place, she has got a coveted promotion and her daughter is pregnant and settled with her boyfriend in Bristol. For many years Holly was a single mum and struggled to pay the mortgage putting her own life on hold, whilst she might need a lodger she also has freedom. So why isn't her work friend Roz so supportive and why does it seem like someone is sabotaging her work?
A new book by Fallon is a thing of joy. I like to suspend all reality and common sense and get caught up in a silly plot with lots of laugh aloud moments. Fallon is the queen of middle-aged chick lit and this book is no exception. Do not read it if you want to be mentally challenged, do read it if you just want an evening of escapism.
How well do you know your work friends – you know, the ones you lunch with and grumble to but never see outside of work? When soap scriptwriter Holly is promoted, her ally Roz leads the toast – but as things mysteriously start to go wrong Holly begins to suspect her friend doesn't always mean well. Fallon explores the darker side of female friendship while keeping a wry smile on her face – a combination of comedy and unsettling suspense that will have you eyeing your colleagues suspiciously over the coffee machine.

This is a quick and easy read, ideal for reading on a beach with a cocktail in hand. I have enjoyed this authors work in the past but don’t really feel this is of the same standard plot wise.
A fresh take on the Female rivalry. Holly has been given a big promotion at work, only to find herself continuously being sabotaged by an unknown workmate.
Whilst the premise isn’t exactly original, the setting was unique and an interesting aspect of the story. Whilst the story was enjoyable to read, it was fairly predictable. You could stop reading half way through if you wanted as the ‘big reveal’ happens early on in the plot and the rest is somewhat of a resolution.
Nice read but it didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat like I’d hoped.
Two years ago I read Jane Fallon’s My Sweet Revenge and I really liked it. You can read my review here. I loved how it was a perfect read for book clubs, because there was so many things people could discuss about, and I am happy to say that with Tell Me a Secret the case is the same.
This book would make a perfect book club pick. There are so many small details and clues readers could pick up, and also characters’ actions they could debate on.
What I liked the most about this novel were it’s characters. Almost all of them had strong personalities and they felt real.
I was always character driven reader, so it is really important for me to have opinions about characters, whether that be positive or negative opinions. There is nothing worse then flat heroes, and this book is full of impressive people.
The story follows Holly who just got a promotion in the company she works at. She is a screen writer, and now is in charge of others writers for the teen soap opera they work on.
After her promotion, strange things start to happen to her. Her scripts are all messed up, her colleagues get personal emails from her, that she hadn’t sent, and even her boss gets one.
Someone is trying to sabotage her, so she wouldn’t keep her work position.
Tell Me a Secret is mainly focused on friendships and rivalry. It talks about real friends and fake ones, and how far people would go when it comes to relationships with others.
It’s second focus is family and importance of people that are close to us.
There is no love story, which was kind of surprising to me, but I also have to stress out that it wasn’t missing at all. I think that this novel was complete and amazing without romance.
So if you’re not a fan of romance, here’s the book for you!
This book made me think and question why people lie to make themselves look better in others’ eyes.
I hate lies and don’t like people who tell them. I almost never lie, so reading about pathological liar in this book was kind of interesting. Still, I rolled my eyes at that character so much and thought she was just pathetic.
The end was so much different then the one I would chose to have in my real life, if I was in Holly’s shoes. I guess that just proves that Holly is bigger person then me.
In the end, I just want to mention that Fallon’s voice is so good that it was a pleasure to read this story.
Some parts were dragged, and maybe the novel could have been a bit shorter, but still, I appreciate every single chapter of this book.
And the cover… OmG, Jane Fallon always has these awesome book covers with food or drink on them, that are simple but attractive. You can not notice her book with those covers!
Overall, I would recommend this book to readers who like to read about friends and enemies, family and lots of drama.
If you like to discuss about books you read, this one is a perfect choice!
Another great read from Jane Fallon, is it dangerous when colleagues become frolleagues? Is your best friend at work your friend or your worst enemy? We are used to office politics but this story takes it to another level!
A great story loved it from start to finish, throughly recommend
This story is hilarious, chaotic, and totally believable in the way it spirals out of control. Holly has been promoted, but someone in the office is trying to sabotage her chances of keeping the job. We learn who the culprit probably is quite early on, but that doesn’t really matter with all the twists and turns of the story. It is an absolute page-turner, you have to keep reading to see what diabolical twist comes next! Holly goes through every emotion in her efforts to prove who is causing the problems, and learns a great deal in the process.
Holly’s friends Dee and Gavin are delightful, the way they turn detective to help Holly prove who the culprit is is very funny, and heartwarming. This is a real feel-good story, very well worth reading.
Jane Fallon's books are usually about revenge/deciet, and this is no different. It raises the question 'How well do we really know our friends - are they more frenemies?' I loved the twists and turns of this novel and second guessing made it a more interesting read. Identification with the protagonist in any story is key to success and I think anyone would have empathy for Jane Fallon's. Never knowing where the next chapter would lead, made it the clichéd page-turner. Cleverly plotted, with all the whys and wherefores answered, this was a pleasure to read and review.
Oh what a read! I do really love to read Jane's books. This one is another brilliantly created and very addictive read. I love the characters, the mystery and the pace. It's one of those books where you're sat on the edge of your seat frantically turning pages to find out what happens, but you don't even realise you're doing it until someone needs you and you have to stop. I love the complexity, the way it draws you in and the ending is just brilliant. What a book!
This tells the story about two close friends Holly and Roz.
Holly has worked hard for a promotion but it seems Roz isn’t as happy as she could be for her friend. Then funny things start to happen to holly at work. It starts to seem like sabotage.
I could not put this book down! Absolutely loved it! Once I start a Jane Fallon novel, I cannot stop. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it does have some unexpected twists. This is a must read
Good friends Holly and Roz tell each other everything but when Holly gets her dream job after putting her career on hold, is Roz really as supportive as she seems.
I really enjoyed this book. It had you guessing what would happen next and kept my interest throughout the entire book.
Typical Jane Fallon - light-hearted, entertaining, feel-good read! She is becoming my 'go to' author when I need a break from my usual genres of crime thrillers and police procedurals. Pure escapism!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.
Jane Fallon never seems to put a foot wrong. I have been a fan of hers for many years and she always seems to inject her books with something new while retaining her talent of writing well-paced books that will mainly appeal to women but are never just 'chick-lit'. This is a story of office politics taken to extremes, and will resonate with anyone who has ever come up against a difficult colleague. The plot is clever without being convoluted or implausible and will keep you reading even when you have other things you really should be getting on with!
