I enjoyed this tale of warring friends and was rooting for Holly all through this book. It takes a while before you realise how flawed her friend Roz is and the lengths that she goes to to get the job she wants. Roz appears to have the perfect life and be Holly's best friend so it is a big surprise when she finds out where all the mysterious pranks are coming from.
I liked Holly and her daughter and her best friend, Dee, and wanted to get to the end of the story but was sad that it had all ended. Great novel from Jane Fallon.
I had never read a book by Jane Fallon before but this was fantastic!
It was an easy-read about friendship, betrayal, revenge and all the things we find in between. I found the plot interesting and real and the relationship between co-workers mirrored real life as well. This is not a thriller but it made my heart beat faster. I will be buying some of Fallon's previous titles because her writing is really addictive. Highly recommended.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this title!
Light hearted easy read - I found this to.be a page turner without being too demanding!
Thanks for the advanced copy!
Couldn't fault this book at all - fabulous characters playing out a fun tale of frenemies! Brilliantly paced, and with a few unexpected twists this book is a definite winner.
Thumbs up to another great book from Jane Fallon. This time the plot was just as beguilingly deceptive in its plot as her previous novel, "Faking Friends". Things never work out well to begin with for the main character, this time Holly, but as the book progresses she works it out and revenge ensues. There are always twists and turns. One minute you begin to like a character and then the warmth is swept way by their own actions. I loved the way she carefully cleared up all the loose ends by the culmination of the book and gave us a feelgood end.
Jane writes so well. Her character descriptions are spot on and I love the way she carefully connects all the players.
I think you'll enjoy this book, if its the first time you have met a Jane Fallon book or want to have another fix of a soft thriller.
A great revenge novel, as only to be expected from Jane Fallon.
Great characters with lots of surprises along the way. Loved the way we learnt more about some of the secondary characters along the way and how that fitted into the story. The setting was great too - unusual but gave an interesting insight into the world ongoing drama production - different to the usual office basis for similar storylines.
A very enjoyable read and I will continue to look out for more by this author.
Thank you to Netgalley for an early read.
Set in the script editing world of a TV show all me a secret is a tale of suspicion, jealousy and revenge, Holly has just been promoted but is someone trying to get her dismissed by sending emails from her computer. We follow Holly as she tries to discover who is responsible and it could be someone close.
Tell me a secret is part chick lit part mystery, so if you like those genres you may well enjoy this book. It's nice easy read with nothing too difficult to work out. A book that can be picked up, read a chapter and put down for a while with out you forgetting the plot. If you're looking for something to read on the way to work or at lunch, then give this one ago.
If you have just finished a mammoth tomb (ie Little Life) you know the kind, the ones that leave you with a book hangover, this would be the ideal book to read next, its frivolous, entertaining and light-hearted but with enough intrigue to keep you turning those pages. A perfect holiday read, begging to be read on the beach, sans cocktail. This is the first Jane Fallon novel I have read and I would definitely read other books by this author now. If you love Marian Keyes, you should give this author a go for sure.
I loved Tell Me a Secret by Jane Fallon. I struggled to put this down reading late into the night as I just had to know who was behind the sabotage. A fab book.
It just goes to show how you think you know someone but you don’t. This is a story of how a ‘friend’ can turn against you but they don’t beat you. Well written and worth reading.
Holly and Roz work in the script department of a long running soap drama and are best friends. When Holly is offered a promotion to Script Editor on a one month probation, she celebrates with the one person who helped with the application process - Roz who seemed over the moon at the decision.
Very quickly, things start to go wrong for Holly with rude, slanderous and embarrassing messages are sent to members of the shows cast and her boss supposedly from her.
Things take a unusual turn when Holly starts to realise that may be Roz is not the person she thought she was and enlists the help of her friend Dee to find out the truth before her probation period is up.
A steady paced story that is padded out more than necessary and for most people - the plot is predicable. Despite this, it is a nice easy read.
I think most people will read this book and be able to guess the outcome.... however.... I still enjoyed reading it and it is a good easy read. So ultimately predictable but enjoyable.
A really good read I thoroughly enjoyed this book was looking forward to this as I had read Jane's previous novel and I wasn't disappointed a great mix of characters good and bad and plenty of drama to keep you wanting more after holly's promotion at work things go from bad to worse as someone tries to sabotage her position and in trying to find out who among her supposedly friends is responsible the story unfolds, and after some detective work from her friends Dee and Gavin Holly finally finds answer and it's not at all what she expected
Frenemies and work really don't mix. Satisfying long read which is loaded with plot twists and tension. My only disappointment with this book was part of the ending but I can't tell you why without a huge spoiler, and overall this book is very much worth reading.
I stayed up last night until 4am to finish this book - not because it was fast paced or heartracingly gripping but because it grows on you steadily, sucking you in to the murky world of TV production/office politics where you end up being emotionally invested in seeing Holly sort out a terrible situation. The characters are well drawn and believable - in fact I’m sure I’ve worked with a few of the characters in my time. A well deserved 5 stars
Jane Fallon never fails to keep me on the edge of my seat. Holly has landed promotion at work and her work friend Roz is delighted for her. They have always had such a good work relationship and Holly feels it's only natural to get support from Roz. Who is causing trouble for Holly then? Who is trying to destroy her promotion before it even starts? Things go from bad to worse when Holly has a new lodger and something doesn't feel right.
Oh my goodness, workplace rivalry at its worse. I could not put this book down, you just have to read it.
Great book, loved it. What version of ourselves do we present in the workplace? Are our friends at work truly friends or just colleagues we spend a lot of time with. What jealousies and lies exist beneath the surface? That sounds quite dark, but this isn't a deeply depressing tale, there is a fair bit of humour woven in. Really well written and great characters.
Holly us a forty something mum of a one with a job in the script department of a television soap. She has been there only a short while when she gets promoted and finally has the job of her dreams. Everyone seems happy for Holly but then strange things start happening at work, emails from her computer are being sent to the stars of the show full of disparaging remarks and someone tries to upset the script writers in front of Holly's boss. Desperate to not seem incompetent and fretting over whether she will last until the end of her probation period Holly tries to work out who might be trying to take her down and is shocked by what she discovers. Mix this wither her daughters pregnancy and a new lodger that seems too good to be true and you have the makings of a great story.
This is a fantastic read and I have loved reading it. I love the friendly, chatty style and I really enjoyed trying to work out who had it in for Holly. It becomes apparent fairly early on who it is but we are left working out how they are doing it, and more importantly, why.
I found this book a to be a bit of fresh air for what I have been reading lately love a good girly fiction to lighten the mood.
Holly is the main character and find herself getting a promotion in work to a job she has dreamed at getting , But things start to happen which could ruin her promotion and she figures someone is set out to get her fired but who?
with a few twists and secret and lies the truth comes out but you must read to find out who the mystery person could be.
I really had a fun time reading this and it only took a few days to finish. Was a real easy read easy to get into and the flow kept you wondering what might happen next.
would recommend this to any fans of Jane Fallon another great book thankyou
Rather, far-fetched, but an easy read and perfect "escape from reality" book. Just how far will someone go to be liked in the workplace? What would you do to get ahead? Do any of us really present "ourselves" to others?
Written with lots of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing (although some twists are better signposted than others and some turns might have been left out for a more impactful read - in particular, the last, empathetic turn). For me, the character development was not quite detailed enough and I found it hard to like any of the characters.
My major criticism, however, was how the chapters broke. Often I'd find myself flicking back as a character was brought into play in a way that would have been impossible at the chapter opening - in fact, there was nothing wrong with the writing, but the lack of chapter break meant that I found myself questioning the continuity.
Overall, a good, fun, read to be taken at face value.
With thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the copy.
