I've been trying to change my carnivorous ways for some time for health and environmental reasons. This book is a fantastic guide full of practical tips and recipes. After such a long lockdown, eating the same kinds of meals, anything new and inspirational is helpful.

I have tried to consider ways to be healthier and this seemed like a perfect way to get a sense of being vegan.

I enjoyed a lot of the recipes and while I have not tried them all yet, it seems line a good idea. The author's story of becoming a vegan was interesting as I had not heard much about that before. I don't feel like I will return to this book frequently for recipes but I will definitely use a few I am now aware of for lunches here and there.

To all vegans or would be vegans, this book could be seen as the ‘go to’ instruction manual to get you on track.
It’s full of advice and recipes. It will also advise you about storage and produce to buy. It has sections on how to manage weight and, for new vegans, coping with falling off the path.
An easy to read book to get you started.

I didn't manage to stick he whole way through with Veganuary last year and I was a little disappointed with myself. But this book really successfully help me break down my week and my month into making veganism really easy and achievable for me. The structure and recipes are easy to follow and have helped encourage me to diversify my meals more to include more vegan cooking in my everyday life as well as helping me achieve Veganuary this year round. Its a good starter pack for beginners like me!

I'm not vegan but I did want to get more veg in my diet - without it being boring. This book is exactly what I needed. Lovely recipes and easy to follow.

Perfect for Veganuary, this book is an introduction to veganism and a holistic lifestyle for those who are just starting out. It includes recipes, hints and tips, and obviously a 28-day meal plan with everything you will need right down to a shopping list and instructions for how and when to prepare and cook your food.

This is a really great book for anyone curious about veganism, anyone who just wants to have a really healthy month, or even for those like me who wanted more of a reminder and a kick start to the year.

I've been a vegan for almost 2 years now, so most of what is in the book was already familiar to me. However, it was set out and written really well, and it is always good for me to go back to the beginning and remember why I wanted to become a vegan in the first place. I used to do a lot of reading and research on the subject, so I am well qualified to tell anyone that this book is a great place to start out. The recipes are very simple but full of good vegan staples and ideas that are easy to adapt and develop into more complicated dishes if you were so inclined. As they are, they are perfect for those on a budget or don't have much time to cook, so really nobody has an excuse for not giving this a try.

I really loved the fact that the author talks about leading a holistic lifestyle and not just the vegan diet, because to me they go hand in hand. I also loved the little quotes that are interspersed throughout.

I would recommend this book to anyone, either to follow the 28-day plan or just to get some ideas. It's definitely food for thought!

The content is interesting and I look forward to trying out the recipes.

This book is nicely illustrated with a good variety of recipes.

I initially struggled to read it as the formatting is all over the place on my Kindle. There are several pages of just upward pointing chevrons - 9 consecutive pages at one point. Headings don't show well and often have subscript and superscript characters. It was fine and looked very nice on my laptop though. I now realise that headings such as M E P R on my Kindle should have read Meal Prep.

The first half is the author talking about why she decided to adopt a vegan diet and the differences it has made to her. There is also a self-help section on breathing techniques, meditation, exercise and journalling. I wasn't so interested in those but I can see that would appeal to some readers.

The recipes are nicely laid out with shopping lists and tip for preparing some aspects of meals in advance. A good book to get you started on a new way of cooking and eating.

With thanks to NetGalley and Bluebird for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

UPDATE: I have just got a paper copy of this book and have upgraded my review from 4 stars to 5 stars as it's a lovely book. It's beautifully printed with excellent photos of every recipe. And really nicely laid out in terms of shopping lists and daily menu plans. It even has that lovely 'new book' aroma! I am completely inspired to get started on these recipes straight-away. My husband is looking nervous already!

I really liked this book. It’s so much more than just a 38 day vegan plan. The author Kim Julie Hansen takes the holistic approach and talks about our well being mentally and physically too. I enjoyed the section on meditation.

The cherry pancakes and mushroom penne were delicious. Will I commit to bring vegan full time.... I’m not sure yet. It’s a great book and an enjoyable read. Thank you #netgalley and #bluebird publishers #pan Macmillan for allowing me to review this book.

I'll start by saying that I don't believe being vegan is inherently healthier or kinder than any other type of diet, so I got this more because I was looking for inspiration for recipes that fit into a restricted diet that means no processed food of any description.

Well.

If you want to be vegan, you can do it without meditating and journalling. And that's what over half of this book is about. So if you feel that you need to grieve a loved one or cope with past trauma before you can become vegan, this is the book for you!

If, on the other hand, you're just looking for simple to follow, delicious recipes, I don't know that this is the best book to start your vegan journey with. I made a promise to myself never to buy kale ever again after repeatedly trying to like it and it always ending up staying in the fridge until it went mouldy. I can't stand avocado either, so a lot of the recipes in here aren't particularly appealing to me.

Having said that, there were a few nice ideas and things I enjoyed, such as the pineapple wild rice, so there were some recipes that helped me out. Overall, it's not a bad book to have on your shelf. Just not necessarily the most useful for inspiration in terms of what you can actually eat. It does give weekly shopping lists, which is helpful, and daily meal plans, but I wish there'd been a lot more of that and less of the navel gazing.

Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC without obligation.

The perfect accompaniment to Veganuary!
If you are Vegan but maybe need to focus more on meal prep and cooking ideas rather than convenience foods, or maybe you want to incorporate more vegan snacks and dishes in to your diet, or if you are just curious about Veganism, this book has very clear and detailed chapters that cover everything you need to know.

I found it interesting to read the author's story of how they initially were a junk food addict leading an unhealthy lifestyle with low self esteem, that I'm sure a lot of people can relate to, but that a dramatic event brought about a huge change and priority assessment that made them completely change their diet.

There is a chapter on what store cupboard and fridge ingredients to stock, shopping lists for each week, and clear recipes, calories, & instructions for each dish. There are also tips on how to store and pick a variety of fruits & vegetables. Chapters on relaxation and wellbeing are there to support the changes that come from making positive diet choices and to further wellness. There is also space to journal your thoughts, what you've learnt, what you are proud of, and what your goals are, making this more than just another diet book.

The recipes for overnight oats and rice noodles with veggies and peanut sauce were my favourites to try.

If you’re trying to keep a New Years Resolution and make a change to your diet or you are really into the whole “Veganuary” scene this might be the book for you. The 28 Day Vegan Plan isn’t just a cookbook it’s the ultimate guide to making the jump and go Vegan. Hansen doesn’t just give you the recipes (100 of them) but helps you prepare your mindset for the journey you are taking.

As well as weekly shopping lists and cooking guides there are exercises that you can work through to help you evaluate what you are doing. It may be that you use the 28 days to press reset on your eating habits, or you can use it as a guide to going permanently vegan. Personally I already have a largely vegetarian diet but I’m not a fanatic about it and I do eat meat if I fancy it – very rarely. It’s always good to discover some new recipes though and the Black Bean Tacos look amazing.

I'm not vegan myself but one of my New Years' Resolutions was to be healthier (let's see how long I can keep that one up!) and so I decided to see if there were any veggie recipes I could incorporate into my diet.
However when reading The 28-Day Vegan Plan I was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't just recipes. Hansen goes into her background and explains why she became vegan and her complicated relationship with food. This resonated with me, and will probably with lots of other people, as sadly disordered eating seems quite commonplace yet not really discussed. There are also tips on meditation and self-care. It was interesting to read - there aren't many cookbooks with self-worth passages - and highlighted Hansen's idea that this isn't a diet nor a quick-fix scheme for underlying issues. It was really nice to see someone address those topics and potentially provide pointers.
This is very much a beginner's cookbook. Every week has a shopping list at the front so you know exactly what to buy and what you'll be using for the seven days which is handy in terms of planning ahead. Hansen also provides instructions how to cook and store food which, while some tips I found helpful, a lot seemed to boil down (no pun intended) to common sense, such as storing food in air-tight containers. In terms of the recipes themselves, there's a really nice variety of meals from baked potatoes to pastas to tacos so there is something for everyone to enjoy. Some of the recipes are a little simplistic, for example the smoothies and the peanut butter and blueberry toast. They just seemed really basic in contrast to other recipes and I felt their inclusion was a little unnecessary.
I think The 28-Day Vegan Plan is a great starter into cooking, whether vegan or not. As I said previously, some recipes and prep instructions make this a really good book for beginners but I feel people with more experience might find these a bit milquetoast. I don't know if there are any more challenging recipes further in, so there might be something for them to enjoy. Overall, I did like The 28-Day Vegan Plan for Hansen's honesty regarding her past, the easy layout of the recipes, and for including a wide range of meals at an affordable cost.

Going vegan is not something I've really ever considered - I love cheese and eggs far too much. I have considered going vegetarian (very recently) but I thought I'd give this book a chance.

On first glance I thought this was just going to be a meal plan but in fact this book is hugely informative. We receive insight into the author's transition from a fast-food loving individual to a vegan - partaking in snippets of her journey. And Kim hasn't tried to make it sound all glamorous, in actual fact this book is very straight to the point about what you can expect when you make the change. Changes your body goes through and hints and tips she's picked up from her own experience and her fellow vegans.

There is also really useful information about lots of the "fancy" foods you're likely to eat more often if you make the change; when they're best to eat, how to store them, and of course, how to cook and prepare them.

I'm still not sure I'd go vegan any time soon but this book has shone light on an otherwise unfamiliar subject for me, and I will without doubt be trying some of these recipes in the meal plan as they sound and look delicious.
The recipes themselves appear to be very easy to follow too, not assuming any culinary school level knowledge!

Overall very impressed with this book - it's not too long the intro being a good length and a good level of detail. And it's split nicely too into sections of food groups so you can refer back to particular areas with ease.

A good guide to going vegan or if your like me - concentrating on eating more of a plant based healthy diet.

The 28 day vegan plan gives some good advice and some great meal plans. I will look back on this book for advice and guidance quite a lot.

Ok I’ll be honest turning Vegan was not on my list of things to do in the new year but this book has finally offered me some tasty sounding foods which also happen to be vegan and I’m actually excited to try this. I already don’t eat much meat and prefer vegetarian food but though vegan was a step too far however this book is a fearless and simple plan to introduce vegan meals into your life. I loved the fact a lot of the meals could be prepared before time and stored so meal time becomes easy. I’m excited to try these meals and be persuaded that vegan is not too extreme after all.

I was attracted to this book as my niece has recently turned to veganism and I thought I'd be inspired. It is a good basic, 'get one started', book on the subject and probably aimed more at the young as it has a lot of very basic information that many of us older generation adhere to as a matter of choice anyway, fresh, natural, seasonal ingredients cooked from scratch, etc. It is obviously intended to 'kick start' anyone to a more healthy lifestyle with a lot of raw natural ingredients and 'bowls' with pulses and fresh veg but also short of time during the week. Some of the recipes involve advance preparation with later reheating so each week would have a lot of meals based on the couple of things prepped in advance and used later in the week. Some of these things I would be reluctant to do certainly from a flavour point of view (reheated potato takes on a very weird flavour unless (dare I say it) unhealthily fried!). I know there is flexibility and this is encouraged, otherwise the menus using the same base ingredients could get repetitive within that week. Freezing would be good rather than sitting in a fridge most of which don't operate at cool enough temperatures!

I am slightly uncomfortable with the use of liquid smoke, I have come across this product as I was involved for several years in the food industry but not that familiar but my impression it is a chemical induced flavouring.

Despite everything it is an excellent book for somebody interested in this diet and a cleaner eating plan, whether for everyday or just an occasional 'detox'. There is a section on meditation plus other lifestyle choices. I would actually buy this book for my nieces's up and coming birthday as it would be right up her street and anything that get those reliant on 'ready meals' and processed foods in general is a good thing for us all. I personally would dip in and out or when my niece comes to stay. I, incidentally, did a wonderful vegan chocolate cake (OK unhealthy as baked and sweet) for her and it went down a storm.

Unfortunately, by catching the flu just before New Year's and guzzling down buckets of chicken soup in attempts of making me feel a little more alive, the start of Veganuary completely passed me by. Which is a shame because, the goal of going vegan for an entire month is an... intimidating one, to say the least (even for a person, like me, whose meals are predominantly vegan/vegetarian), and I always feel as though that a confirmed, easily-definable start-date make those challenges a hell of a lot easier.
However abritrary that start-date might be.
But, books like Kim-Julie Hansen's Vegan Reset: The 28-Day Plan to Kickstart Your Healthy Lifestyle really take the intimidation out of such a massive diet overhaul - they're approachable, non-judgemental and in this one in particular, a myriad of dishes are included that are easily-prepared and which contain ingredients that, for a majority of the population, are easily-sourced. And, isn't that normally where vegan cookbooks like this fail? That, by incorporating ingredients that can only be found by getting on a plane and picking the produce yourself, people who are considering veganism as an option, instead are alienated and turned-off by the diet's perceieved-inaccessibility.
I, for one, am definitely going to be leaving this book with a few pointers (black bean tacos? Yes please) and, even though Veganuary has already been a write-off, the rest of my 2019 is looking a little more hopeful.

I am not even close to being a vegetarian, let alone a vegan; but I was interested to see how this concept would fit in with my life. The author makes it easy to understand why this was a good choice for her, and has made me realise that I need to add more colour to my diet, the pictures of the various meals look wonderful. So, while I won’t be converted to the vegan way any time soon I will definitely be adding a lot more variety to my diet, probably using some of the recipes in this book. And if I am healthier as a result ... who knows?
