Just goes to show you can get away with murder.

I can easily say that this book is defiantly within my top ten reads of 2019! (and there has been a few) I couldn't put it down it had me gripped from the beginning to the end!

I loved all the characters, their individuality both in their personality and individual circumstances, this book embraces the
diversity of friendship.

Full of secrets, betrayal, suspense, with a few twists and turns along the way I loved it!!

This was a great book about friendships, I had guessed what the ending might be but that in no way detracted from the enjoyment of the book. It was brilliantly written and told of the friendships you make through your children....often with people you have nothing in common with but your children, however these can be the strongest ones, based on shared experiences; the lows and highs of parenthood. The question of who murdered the husband was almost secondary to the evolving friendship of the women and I loved it, I couldn’t put it down.

These 5 mums, all from different backgrounds with different lives and different dreams. Meeting at a birthing class, they form ‘The Mothers Club’ - the only thing they have in common are their pregnancies. They each have their own troubles, worries and baggage - despite outward appearances. But then the husband of Bella goes missing. And then one of the mums, Jen, goes missing. Are they connected? And are the secrets that each of them keep the cause of these disappearances? Oooh this book had me gripped. It was clever, devious and made you feel sorry for some of the characters. I also liked how Naughton was able to make the mums’ trials and tribulations real; the alpha mum contest, the postnatal depression, coping with the change in your bodies - just the tip of the mummy iceberg. There’s also a few twists along the ride and I didn’t see them coming at all!

Well written and believable with a decent hook, I'm afraid I've just read too many similar books over the last few years to be really gripped by this one.

Five women from different walks of life meet at an NCT group and become firm friends. Through a the ups and downs of domestic life, love, pain and children they are there for each other. Bella’s husband disappears and the police are investigating his disappearance and suspect the ladies have some involvement.
What a bloody good read this was. The characters are built up well and you can sympathise with them all. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. The book started out good, but then I felt it was too predictable for me. I like how chapters went back and forth between now and then, and showed different girls' perspectives. The ending was partly shock, partly exactly what I predicted.

The Mother’s by Sarah Naughton is a really compelling read, and I raced through it in just a couple of sittings.

The story primarily focuses on Bella and her husband, Ewan. In the opening chapters, Bella reports Ewan missing to the police. At first, the police aren’t very interested in taking the case further, in fact the lead detective on the case is asked to push the case aside, but she stands her ground. She believes that something isn’t quite right about Ewan’s disappearance. When they discover that Ewan and Bella’s son’s nanny, Jen has also disappeared and it looks as though there is sign of foul play, then things start to heat up.

I don’t think I found any of the women the story focuses on particularly likeable, although there were times when I did feel sorry for Bella. The way some people treated Bella made me feel very angry. Initially I struggled to connect to Bella, but as her story was gradually revealed I felt I connected to her more.

I loved the dual timeline in this book, and I really liked how Sarah Naughton unpicked the layers as we got closer and closer to the truth. It is very well-plotted, and each character came through very strongly. I also really liked the pacing. It isn’t fast-paced, but I think it was the way I connected to the characters and their personal stories that made me turn those pages. I felt I really got to know them as though they were real people. Sarah Naughton’s writing is very immersive, and it pulls you into the story without any effort at all. In fact, I was actually quite sad to finish it as I was enjoying it so much.

I thought the revelations towards the end were very nicely done, and it fitted the story perfectly. It gave the ending a very satisfactory feeling, and it felt very believable. It does turn into a very dramatic conclusion. There were definitely parts of the story which I didn’t expect but the way it ended did make me feel very pleased.

Having read all three of Sarah Naughton’s books, I think this is her best novel to date. Her characters felt very real, and I found the plot highly intriguing. I wanted to know what had happened to Bella’s missing husband and I loved trying to work out how everything was going to unfold.

Sarah Naughton is a writer who is going from strength to strength. I’m looking forward to reading what she writes next.

I tried with this one but i just didnt think it was for me, not all psychological thrillers are and ones that discuss motherhood in this way is definitely not for me. I didnt mesh with the characters, that motherhood was awful and hehe wanted to kill the child lol. Also, the need to point out the nanny/maid was black, several times, then give her the stereotypical characteristics of the angry black woman? Not for me

I have mixed feelings about this book. The prologue gripped me from the start, and I wondered throughout which character it had been about. The book was great, had twists I didn't expect and I looked forward to reading it. However, the prologue was never completely linked to the rest of the novel and it seemed like it was a separat story. I enjoyed the book regardless, but would have preferred them to synchronise better and have more cohesion.

This is a psychological thriller that will have you gripped from the beginning to the end. It’s wonderfully dark and chilling with mystery, suspense and plot twists. Hard to put this one down

Review
I really enjoyed this book (although I do wish that two of the main male characters’ names didn’t begin with E...Ewan and Eliot - confusing).

There are five mothers, all very different in character and all good friends. Bella is married to Ewan who is horrid to her, disrespectful and a very unpleasant man. When Ewan goes missing, the women stick together with the same story given to the police.

Well plotted although a predictable ending. There were no surprises, however it was well-written and I didn’t find any anomalies. I read it in a weekend. I liked that the book ended with a “what they’re doing now”.

I rate this book 4 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thanks

This book was a bit similar to other books I’ve read over the last few years. Group of women friends, unlikely friendships, female solidarity, persecuted wife - ending in murder of husband. Very like Big Little Lies. I thought more could have been made of the police detectives characters to give it an edge over other similar stories. It was ok, if I hadn’t read similar I probably would have loved it.

Five mothers, one secret that the police would not imagine in their wildest dreams”.

Being a new mother myself and having established a tight knit group of 'mum' friends solely based on having children at the same time I was very eager to read this and it didn’t disappoint.

It was a fast paced read that I devoured in one sitting. I loved all the twists and turns and the revealing of the characters more sinister sides. I found that although this was a relatively short book the characters were well developed and interesting each with such wildly different lifestyles. There is just the right blend of the women falling apart and building themselves and each other back up to make you really get behind them even though they are all complicit in deception..

I found this a real page turner but my only niggle, and it is a small one, is that throughout the whole book was they kept calling Bella fat and frumpy even though we are told that she is only a size 12!!!!!

Thanks to Netgalley, Orion Publishing Group and the author for a free ARC in return for an honest review.

A twisty-turny novel about a group of mismatched NCT mothers after one of their husbands goes missing.

I couldn't put this one down and although I've not read anything else by this author I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for her other books. The only thing I didn't like were how some aspects of the denouement felt almost too convenient.

A gripping psychological thriller.

I didn’t know what to expect with this novel but enjoyed the read! Written about 5 mums who meet at a baby group and how there relationships develop! The suspense comes when one the husbands go missing and how they all get together. I liked how all the the characters are indifferent but also come together! The author has written this well, look forward to reading more novels.

An exciting thriller of a book revolving around the missing husband of the Mothers club - a group of mums who all get together regularly to put the world to rights and support each other through the ups and downs of real life. When one of the gangs husband walks out on her they all have to rally around to help support her as the police start investigating the disappearance. This kept me guessing and hooked until the last page.
