Like other books in this series, it is a fun little introduction to inspiring people. Definitely a great way to introduce kids to biographies and a nice read for adults too. I would recommend all the books in this series.

Dr. King has always been one of the most inspiring Civil Rights leaders of his generation and this compact account of his life will continue to inspire children everywhere.

Such a great book! I have been buying these as gifts and for my children, and now grandchildren for quite some time!
Beautifully produced and with information on each of these influential people's lives, there is enough to springboard the curious child into reading more in depth about culturally important figures, this is a must have for any child's bookshlef. How King's life was condensed into a child's book without missing any of the salient points or glossing over any part, is still a feat which astounds me. Complete with archive photos and encouraging further reading, this is a treasure of a book.

The Little People Big Dreams series are always great, and I'd always happily recommend any and all of them to customers. I'm yet to find one I don't like and they offer a great introduction to some fascinating people for kids (and in some cases adults too!).

Another lovely example of this series which offers children the chance to find out about the lives of famous people. Perfect for the class library!

Another great book in the series, although this one will fail to please many readers since MLK is such an influential feature and there is only such much Sanchez Vergara can do in 32 pages.

This entry into the charming Little People, BIG DREAMS series takes a look the life of Martin Luther King Jr. At a young age, King quickly learned there were differences in the world. He was not allowed in his friend's home because of the colour of his skin. They had different buses, and went to different schools. Martin took note, and polished his speaking skills. He became a Reverend, and spoke often to his congregation about equality, and making a stand for what's right. When Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat in a bus to a white passenger and was arrested for it, King rallied the citizens, successfully carrying out a strike against bus riding until the laws were changed. This was a spark to the major civil rights movement leading to King's famous 'I have a dream' speech. Above all, King supported non-violent protests, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, to get the message across. The end of the book contains a more detailed look at King's life, using language suited for much older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great! I read this with my cubs. We love this series! Highly recommended!

I absolutely adore this series and this book was no different. As most of the books but this one especially so they all share an important message/messages, each one individual to the specific person but written in a way that is easy for children to understand and learn from. This one in particular is so important for our youth to read especially with the way the world is at the moment. Our kids need to see, learn and remember that we have these role models who stood for something and that we all can too. I will 100 percent be buying a copy of this book for my daughter.

I like the graphics in this one. I don't like it because the copy I got wasn't the finished copy yet. I love the Little People series.

Martin Luther King is an essential figure and his activism needs to be remembered.

This little book introduces his life to children, explaining why it is important to stand up against discrimination, hate and racism.
I am glad that The Little People, Big Dreams included the figure of the minister in the collection as Martin's legacy and the 'I have a dream' speech are so important for future generations.

Thanks to the publisher and to the authors for the ARC in exchange of an honest review.

'Martin Luther King, Jr.' by Ma Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Mai Ly Degnan is the 33rd entry in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series of books for little readers.

Little Martin was surrounded by a family of preachers, so perhaps it was inevitable he would become one as well. An early childhood incident made him aware of racism when a childhood friend invited him to play, and the child's mother wouldn't let Martin in the house. Martin went on to great things.

This is such a great series that I instantly request review copies every time I see them. The range of artists in the series makes them interesting.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Childrens and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

I love the Little People, Big Dreams series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. I was happy to see this addition to the series, highlighting Martin Luther King Jr. This book shares his story from his childhood, ending with his famous, "I Have a Dream" speech. Young readers will learn how this peaceful and loving man impacted the world to change things through peaceful protest. His messages of love being the solution against hate, never accepting something that is wrong, and use peaceful ways to fight against wrong. His most important message is that it is the character of a person that matters, not the colour of their skin. I know this is a book for children, but it is too bad the decision was made not to include what happened to him. I think that is a very important part of his story. Once again, the illustrations are well done and will appeal to young children. I definitely recommend this book to all school and public libraries.

This is a great book to teach children about Martin Luther King Jr.

At the beginning of the story, young Martin plays with his friends and doesn’t notice that they look different from him. It isn’t until his friend’s mother won’t allow him into their house that he realizes they are different. This shows how children aren’t naturally racist, but have it taught to them. Martin goes on to fight against prejudice by teaching others.

I always remember learning about Martin Luther King Jr. in school, so I really liked this book. This is a great children’s book.

Like most books in the Little People Big World series this is a well done introduction to a historic character. I wish the author would have been brave enough to include the assassination. The book makes everything seem like there was a happy ending when there was not. This galley copy did not yet have the biography information in the back yet, so the assassination information could be included there, but it really should have been part of the story.

I don’t have much to say in this review that I didn’t say in my review on “David Attenborough,” which is a similar book within the same series. These books would make excellent introductions or supplements to lessons on the person they are about. I did fail to mention in my previous review just how adorable the art style is! I will say, however, formatting wise, it would make more sense to me if this book series were printed as more of a story book, rather than as a board book, BUT these books have been coming out in this format for years now and are clearly successful, so who am I to say? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Look for this new addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series just in time for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's Birthday on January 15! 🕊
This story follows Dr. King from an early encounter with segregation, through the Montgomery Bus Boycott, to his inspiring, "I Have a Dream Speech."
🕊
There are many great children's picture books about Dr. King, yet the text and illustrations in this book are perfect for younger children to begin to understand the concepts of segregation, racism, and civil rights. Be sure to check out this new release, as well as the numerous additional titles in this series! Releases January 7, 2020!

Another wonderful title in the LIttle People Big Dreams series. Telling of the life of Martin Luther King Jr in accessible language and bright pictures. With a slightly extended biography and timeline at the back of the book and suggestions for extended reading, this is the perfect introduction to the life of an important figure in history. I would not hesitate to use any of this series in class and will be looking to purchase some of these for our school library.
