This cookbook is entirely dedicated to the blueberry. The author uses the fruit in a number of ways. The recipes are well set out and easy to follow and I would recommend this to anyone who likes blueberries!
One of my favorite fruits is the beautiful blueberry. I will eat it in any form. I yearn to go to Maine during blueberry season, pick them till I can't lift the pails (or my arms!), and then stuff my luggage with as much as I can. This recipe book was written for me. Gorgeous photography, mouth-watering recipes! I want to make them all. Really. I must make them all. I will make them all. Incidentals I loved about this book: the author fearlessly tells people not to worry, unless the recipe says otherwise, frozen berries will work, and she also used a hand mixer (so many recipes assume we all live in houses with miles of counter space for all the gadgets, including a stand mixer. I live in a 70+-year-old house with about 2 feet of counter space.). And she may have found the one reason on the planet I can think of for using an instant pot. If you love baking desserts, or love blueberries and are looking for some salad and chicken recipes that incorporate this small but mighty deliciousness, you will love this book. Highly recommended.
The recipes in this cookbook look amazing. I can't wait to try them all. I love that there were sweet and savory recipes. I also loved the cocktail ideas!
An amazing array of recipes that I cannot wait to try out. I am most looking for ward to trying some of the drink recipes (mainly the alcoholic ones!!) Beautiful photographs throughout made me feel hungry. Many thanks to Netgalley and publishers for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!
My three year old daughter is in love with blueberries (one of the only foods she will never say no to) so I was very excited for a whole cookbook filled with ideas on how to incorporate blueberries into dishes - both sweet and savory and I wasn't disappointed! I can't wait to try some of these yummy recipes out!
Mmmm, blueberries! The book begins with tips on berry picking and storage and then the recipes begin. While I would personally need to make some adjustments to eliminate the animal products called for (some aren't possible to veganize but others would be easy to adjust), I found several recipes I'd love to try. The accompanying photos are beautifully shot and certainly add to the appeal of the recipes. Recipes cover a wide range, from beverages (both alcoholic and non) to desserts to main dishes. There's sure to be something here to suit every blueberry lover!
Thank you to Storey Publishing, LLC and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
As you may be able to guess, Blueberry Love is a recipe book centred around blueberries. Unlike my favourite raspberries and blackberries, which I will happily eat on their own, I tend to only like blueberries in other things. I thought this book would be a good chance to expand my blueberry-recipe horizons, and I was right!
The introduction began with a brief bit of history, and I learned that a species of blueberries (Wild Maine blueberries) is one of the few fruits native to North America. The introduction also included some helpful information like how to choose blueberries, how to store them and how to use different types (frozen, fresh and wild).
We are then given some basic baking tips, like methods and equipment to use, before we get into the recipes, organised into four sections by meal type (e.g. breakfast, dessert). However, there were no title pages to delineate the sections like most cookbooks have, so it took me a while to remember the recipes were organised in this way.
My only qualm is I was turned off by the brief 'superfood' talk, which tends to be used not by nutritional experts but instead by people trying to sell you something. How exactly do blueberries 'promote weight loss' as this book says? Whether or not it's true, and even if it's only briefly mentioned, I don't appreciate a book about food being flippant, making these weighty claims without anything to back it up other than it's 'considered [to be so] by many'. It's misguided at best and harmful at worst.
All in all, this is a good book of recipes with lovely pictures, and I can't wait until next summer to try the blueberry-lavender lemonade!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.
This little cookbook of blueberry recipes looked inviting. Who doesn’t like blueberries?
They just shout “summer” to me. During the summer when they are plentiful and relatively inexpensive, I tend to hoard them away in the freezer. This cookbook is perfect for summer or winter baking of blueberry treats.
The photos of the recipes were bright and tempting. They illustrated the recipes perfectly. I am especially anxious to try the blueberry pecan bread and the blueberry coffeecake. The recipes do not appear too complicated. They do not require unusual or hard to find ingredients. Thus, you can take this book off the shelf in your cookbook library and get busy baking.
I love blueberries. I have them with my breakfast most days. I was drawn to this book because I had a pack of frozen blueberries and couldn’t decide what to do with them. There is a very good range of recipes from savoury to dessert to vodka! I struggle somewhat with the concept / combination of blueberries with meat. Grilled Turkey and Cheese with Blueberry-Onion Jam is unappealing to me but I suspect that’s more to do with US/UK differences in taste. This is, I know, written for the US market hence all measurements are in cups which means multiple calculations into fluid, volume and weight ounces, and there are ingredients, such as wild Maine blueberries, that are unobtainable here. Having said that, it didn’t stop me making the (very easy) cobbler for pudding last night and it went down very well - and very quickly!
Another great recipe book from Cynthia, very clearly written and an easy format to follow for each recipe. There are so many amazing recipes in this book I can’t wait to work my way through them all.
Blueberry picking memories from childhood can be as delicious as the berries themselves. Our parents diligently watched out for bears while our faces stained bluer and bluer. What could be better than immersing yourself in nature, harvesting wild berries with your family and enjoying the fruit (what is left!) in recipes later?
The author captures late summer in her rustic and simple blueberry recipes and tips. You will find a nice range of ideas from beverages to pancakes to salads to cakes to scones to salsa to gluten free muffins. The beautiful photography made me hungry!
As an adventurous cook and baker I am always seeking novel inspiration for the unique and was happy to see additions to add to my list such as Blueberry-Lavender Lemonade and Blueberry Shrub. For some odd reason I've not made Blueberry Butter but will now...a lovely idea!
Keep in mind these recipes will appeal most to basic cooks as they are not challenging and the ingredients are easy to find. Absent are recipes pairing wild blueberries with wild game and game birds but the savoury recipes here can easily be used with elk, venison, duck, pheasant, etc. That's what's so great about cookbooks...finding your own inspiration.
Thankfully we have blueberries in the freezer...what to make first? I think it will be the butter.
My sincere thank you to Storey Publishing for the an ARC of this delightful book in exchange for an honest review. Much appreciated.
Cynthia Graubart dedicates an entire book to making a single fruit the centerpiece of recipes. It is amazing. From Scones to Lemonade, there is something for everyone to try.
Cynthia Graubart, I did not think I could love blueberries more than strawberries, hence your cookbook an ode to blueberries has PROVEN ME WRONG!
Some interesting recipes that I noted were the warm chicken blueberry salad and the blueberry blue cheese spread. I cannot wait to male these for get togethers at my house with family. But i think tge very first recipe out of this that inwould try would be the Salmon with the blueberry onion jam glaze. I saw the jam in another recipe as well and had to go back thru to find it. The only criticism I would give is that since the jam (blueberry onion) is contained in more than one recipe I would have liked to have seen it as a stand alone recipe on a seperate page. Other than that, this is a stunner of a cookbook! Photographs are plenty and I love having the recipes illustrated with detail. Love this cookbook especially.
Ive already got a few people in mind for gifts of this!
Thank you to NetGalley for this free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is GORGEOUS! I love blueberries and often use them in baking. The recipes include well known blueberry combinations and recipes, blueberry and lemon, blueberry cheesecake but lots of new ideas I’d never considered but can’t wait to try!
The photos are wonderful and each recipe has at least one photo of the end result which I love, I hate it when recipe books don’t have enough photos.
I’d really recommend this book to blueberry fans, both bakers and cooks. I’m going to make a blueberry pie this afternoon and can’t wait to try some of the other recipes.
I love blueberry anything and knowing there’s a specific science to making the perfect blueberry dessert is mind blowing. Thank you so much netgalley, I never knew I needed this cool book so much!!
This is a great cookbook for anyone who loves blueberries or who has bushes and wants lots of wonderful ways to use their fruits. It's dividing into breakfasts, lunches and dinners, and desserts. Typical recipes include blueberry coffee cake, glazed blueberry donuts, salmon with a blueberry sauce, salads that incorporate blueberries, blueberry pies and cheesecakes, and even some cocktails. It also teaches you how to make staples like blueberry syrup and blueberry vodka.
Beautiful full color photos accompany just about every recipe. Nutritional information is not provided. It tends towards simple recipes using real ingredients (flour, sugar, whole chicken, etc.) instead of purchased premade ingredients. One gluten free recipe is provided (muffins) and some of the savory recipes are gluten free for things like meats and salads. This cookbook will work well for vegetarians, less so for vegans, and not really for paleo or keto folks. For those who just want some traditional, old fashioned, delicious blueberry recipes, it will work perfectly.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
Beautiful book full of great recipes mad with blueberries. The photos are mouthwatering! I cant't to make some of these recipes. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
I can't wait to put this book and Strawberry Love on an endcap together. In this book, I look forward to trying the blueberry-lemon icebox loaf cake and the salmon fillets with blueberry-onion jam glaze, a combo I never would've come up with myself.
This book was received as an ARC from Storey Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book could not have gotten more better and I am reviewing it right at the perfect time. We have so many blueberries in our freezer that we were running out of ideas other than jams, smoothies and desserts and this book solved most of those problems. There is nothing like fresh blueberries when they are in season and we get an abundance of them and we always get so overwhelmed with ideas of what to do and this book was a great solution for that. I can't wait to try the blueberry bread pudding and mustarda.
We will consider adding this title to our TX Cookbook collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
Yummmmm!! I can wait until the weekend! I still have frozen blueberries in my freezer and there are many blueberry recipes to make in this book! I'm betting some will freeze well, too! Blueberry Coffee cake sounds like a wonderful way to begin a day, some blueberry-orange scones to freeze. Blueberry-Lavender Lemonade with Buttermilk Blueberry Pancakes for lunch! Buttermilk Blueberry Soup on menu next year! Sauteed Pork with blueberries sounds wonderful for dinner! And a nice blueberry syrup to cover everything! Cobblers are always nice with apple, but blueberries instead sound like heaven! So many wonderful treats in this book with uses for blueberries I have not ever thought of. Genius! Thanks for sharing Ms. Graubart!
