Fun introduction to how viruses work in an important time to know that -- it is very accessible to ages 2-5 years, though honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to give it some adults curious about how enzymes and antibodies work. The colorful and bold illustrations are also fun for younger ages.
A very simple introduction to viruses and the immune system. I admire the effort, explaining scientific concepts without using technical terms. It helps that the illustrations are well designed and do a solid job demonstrating the concepts.
Stop that virus! is a fun way to show children what a virus does in your body. It is quite a complicated thing to explain to young children but this book does a good job at making it seem easier to understand in a fun way with colourful illustrations. This makes it more appealing to children and helps with the understanding of the topic. A great book for young children.
This was simple and straight forward. The more adults that say “I’m tired of hearing about the virus” the more important it is to talk to our kids in a real and honest way. This was helpful In Doing that with my toddler.
This was a great explanation for very young children to help them understand what is going on in the world. It was colorful and simple. I appreciated that it wasn't overly scientific or detailed because of the age group it is geared towards. I've seen plenty of books for elementary aged children, but this is the first I have seen for toddlers. It fits a perfect niche that needed a book like this.
Brightly colored and kept my children's attention! What a great way to help them understand what a virus is.
Thanks to the publishers for sharing this book. It's a cute way to teach kids about germs. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.
I prefer books with more facts to explain science to my children. This book was ultra simplified and not that great. It was also very, very pink. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital review copy.
My kids loved this book!
We got an advance copy of it so didn't have the benefit of the whole board-book experience, but despite this we loved how the story was presented with the angry looking virus and the eager helpers trying to get rid of it.
The graphics were interesting and fun, it made sense to my four year old even without me telling the story which is always an excellent sign. It helped to explain the concept of germs., viruses and antibodies fighting really simply and in an enjoyable way. Would definitely recommend.
What a timely little book for kiddos! During a year where a virus is what we're all talking about, a book like this helps little ones to better understand what their parents are talking about. This book is informative and makes it easy to understand. I do wish that it included something about vaccines and what is making this specific virus so hard to fight. Overall, very good!
A well presented book, explanation is well written and explained however, I felt it was a bit too short to give a detailed review because as soon as you get into the book its ending, which is a shame, I wish it was longer, the kids liked it though and the pictures were very good.
This book brought such complex information to an understandable and enjoyable format that is perfect for young readers. I thought the illustrations and layout were perfect. I will definitely be reading this to my kindergarten students!
I'm so glad this book was ouished! I read this with my two children who are 4 and 6 years old. They enjoyed it, I enjoyed it. A very sweet, wonderful, educational way to exain to children and viruses.
Very child friendly.
This book is very cute and helps break down the way immune system fights off viruses in an engaging way. The different cells are given personas which make them seem less scary, and children can learn just how effective the immune system is. My kids really enjoy learning about how things work, especially bodies, so this will be a favorite in our house.
🦠 This book has beautiful artwork and it is simple. Perfect for children, It really explains the concept of germs and how our bodies fight the germs off!
It is great for children who are only just learning about germs/viruses. I would say the book is perfect for children 4/5years and under.
I enjoyed reading this book with my niece. She likes looking through the pictures and it also opened up a discussion about COVID-19 and ways in which we can help prevent the spread.
Thank you for sending me a digital copy of this book.
This book is so relevant right now with COVID19 invading our lives and bodies. It exposes the truth about the virus that is causing so much pain and grief all around the world! Kid's lives have changed drastically because of this dangerous virus and this book will explain to them in simple terms, enriched by bold cartoon-like illustrations, what is happening.
What is a virus? "Viruses are microscopic parasites that lack the capacity to thrive and reproduce outside of a host body."
This informative and educational book follows a virus as it tries to attack and ravage a healthy body. "Intruder alert!" Cells, enzymes, and antibodies snap to attention and their mission is to fight back and defeat that horrid intrusive enemy.
The artwork is bright, vibrant and very kid-friendly. The text is simple enabling little ones to understand the message of this board book and the implications of contracting a virus. Large Venetian blinds that can be opened up to the delight of youngsters make the book interactive. This book is not only perfect for sharing in homes but would be a great addition in a classroom and school library. I highly recommend it.
We were lucky to receive a free digital copy of this book from Netgalley. It is a bright picture book with clear illustrations and simple text suitable for younger readers (0-5 years). I think it would work well for 6-8 year olds too and help introduce them to the human immune system.
The child-friendly illustrations show a nasty villain virus attacking a body while the team of heroes (cells, enzymes and antibodies) work together to defeat the enemy germ.
We always enjoy picture books but this has bonus features that make it interactive. There are peep through sections, sliding sections and the story scenes cleverly change as you turn the pages.
The news is full of information about Covid-19 at the moment so this book is a really good way to understand more about viruses, how they attack our bodies, make us ill and how our body is able to fight back and defend itself!
The illustrations in the book are very engaging and fun. My 4 year old was loving the pictures and they certainly helped her staying engaged in the story. Though it does seem clear that the book doesn't particularly work in eBook form from a child's perspective. I can imagine the physical copy is quite delightful and easier to absorb into for the targeted audience.
I will say that the wording felt a bit older than a board book generally is geared for. I wonder how it would have landed if it was slightly longer and a paperback picture book instead of a board book. I would gauge the book to be developed for 4-6 year olds more than 1-3 year olds - who are the usual consumers of board books.
Overall though, I still enjoyed it and it opened up a good conversation for my child and I to reinforce how important it is to wash hands, clean surfaces, and talk a little about what goes on in the body when a virus tries to infiltrate. I wish the book had touched more on the basic hygiene part though. It felt like a science class lesson geared towards the wrong audience. I know that sounds harsh but I just think the mark was missed by a tiny smidge. We still liked the book and I would still recommend it to other parents for discussing a basic outline of what goes on in the body when it's fighting one off.
The last note I have is, it's clear this was written and slated for publishing because of the COVID-19 virus we have all be dealing with. So, I suppose I wish it would've just embraced that and paved a pathway for parents to discuss on a science level.
This book provides a very simplified explanation to young children of how your body fights a virus. The terms and actions are accompanied by fun and colorful illustrations.
Thank you NetGalley for the DRC.
A timely book for the littles who may be curious about just what a virus is. This picture book follows a virus as it invades a cell in a virus and discusses how enzymes and antibodies get involved as the body tries to fend off the virus. I read this book with my 6 year old and he was able to follow along. There were tons of colorful illustrations and the language was appropriate for young kids, even if they may not have ever heard of enzymes or antibodies before.
