This book does a great job explaining a number of terms around "the virus" that kids may be hearing, as well as telling them what happens inside the human body when we encounter a virus. It's easy to understand, facts-forward, I the illustrations are fun and bright. Great book!
Many thanks to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for the advance copy.
An absolutely adorable adorable and fun book! Interactive and the art style is just precious. I think this would make a great read for kids! Its educational, interactive, and the art is just so much fun to look at!
Stop that Virus! is a story about a virus that tries to attack the body. The cells, antibodies, and enzymes have to work together to fight the virus off. This book is a short 14-page board book.
I really liked the images for this book and it's what initially drew me towards it. The pictures are bright, big, and you can see movement and emotion in them, the illustrator did a great job.
The story is very simple and only includes a couple of words that your child might not know but they are explained while you read the book (cell, virus, antibody, virus),
Overall I think this is a very cute book for a child that could be used as an introductory to how the body works.
This is a great way to be able to talk to younger children about viruses.
My daughter is only three but had asked a few times about masks, washing hands and why we can’t do certain things – a prime example being soft play being closed. This book has helped her understand how bodies fight when they are poorly or have a virus. She has had her nasal flu spray too so she got really in to what was happening. It is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!
Explaining how germs and viruses work in a clever way kids will understand, this book is informative and fun. The illustrations are descriptive without being uninteresting for children or scary.
This book is fantastic for younger children at explaining what happens when someone is poorly with a 'virus'.
Very easy to understand , with great pictures that also explain it all.
All round great book.
A very nice and simple book about viruses and our bodies way of dealing with them. I read this with my son and it really helped him to understand that our bodies are always protecting us, great little book
This was a cute little book. I think it is appropriate for preschool through second grade. The pictures are colorful and engaging.
A simple but useful book that explains to young children about what a virus is and how the body fights it
This book was received as an ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – words & pictures in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book was adorable to the extreme. Love the bold drawings of all the characters and the play on enzymes and antibodies was too hysterical. This will be a great book for a storytime and in the classrooms of the young grades and they will be so impressed of the story and drawings. This could not have come at a better time and it's so exciting to see another way for children to learn about the importance of protecting yourself from those pesky, harmful viruses and having fun while doing it.
We will consider adding this title to our JNon-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
This is a brilliantly informative book that will be perfect for young children and parents or teachers wanting to teach their children about the virus
I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I REALLY liked this one! This comes out at the perfect time, with all the coronavirus stuff going on atm! I love the drawing of the virus and antibodies and enzymes, and I feel like it captures the key information about how the body fights viruses without being too complicated or too long / boring! This would be useful to use in the Primary School natural science classroom!
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the opportunity to read in exchange for an honest review. What an awesome book! It has great illustrations that work with the story to explain easily to a child what happens when we catch a virus and how our bodies react to fight.. a book I will share with my granddaughter when she is sick.. Great book.
This is an adorable and fun read which helps educate kids on what a virus really is! The art is wonderful and quite interactive. I think it's a great read for kids who are more curious about staying safe!
What a great book!! This book is perfect for teaching about viruses in a primary health class. It explains it so well and will make it easy for young children to understand how viruses work. The illustrations are so well done and complement the story perfectly.
In the worlds current climate this is a lovely little book. A clever way to help children understand in a simplified way what viruses do. Colourful and attention grabbing.
The antibodies are shown defeating the virus. However, to be used as more of an education tool. It would have been brilliant if we could have also gotten the message across that we can help the antibodies by washing our hands etc.
Overall though a good educational book for the younger readers.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Enjoyed reading this storybook about what happens when a virus attacks the body. Simple and easy to understand.
ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE. 5 stars. Timely book on viruses for the youngest of readers. Great illustrations, great message, minimal text with maximum impact.
What a delightful relevant book for this time in history. The colorful illustrations helped bring forth the complicated topic of viruses. My only wish is that some of the illustrated comparisons (like antibodies being like little workers) would have been verbalized in the writing as well as the pictures.
Even the youngest children listen to what the adults around them say. So, no doubt, they have been hearing the word virus. This title with its lively illustrations will be welcomed by families. It helps young children to understand how the body fights a virus and how a person gets better.
This title will offer reassurance to many children while a few might need to understand that these small figures that look somewhat like people are not really inside them. All will know that their bodies work to keep them safe and healthy
Many thanks to NetGalley for this title. All opinions are my own.
The illustrations in the book are very engaging and fun. My 4 year old was loving the pictures and they certainly helped her staying engaged in the story. Though it does seem clear that the book doesn't particularly work in eBook form from a child's perspective. I can imagine the physical copy is quite delightful and easier to absorb into for the targeted audience.
I will say that the wording felt a bit older than a board book generally is geared for. I wonder how it would have landed if it was slightly longer and a paperback picture book instead of a board book. I would gauge the book to be developed for 4-6 year olds more than 1-3 year olds - who are the usual consumers of board books.
Overall though, I still enjoyed it and it opened up a good conversation for my child and I to reinforce how important it is to wash hands, clean surfaces, and talk a little about what goes on in the body when a virus tries to infiltrate. I wish the book had touched more on the basic hygiene part though. It felt like a science class lesson geared towards the wrong audience. I know that sounds harsh but I just think the mark was missed by a tiny smidge. We still liked the book and I would still recommend it to other parents for discussing a basic outline of what goes on in the body when it's fighting one off.
The last note I have is, it's clear this was written and slated for publishing because of the COVID-19 virus we have all be dealing with. So, I suppose I wish it would've just embraced that and paved a pathway for parents to discuss on a science level.
This book provides a very simplified explanation to young children of how your body fights a virus. The terms and actions are accompanied by fun and colorful illustrations.
Thank you NetGalley for the DRC.
A timely book for the littles who may be curious about just what a virus is. This picture book follows a virus as it invades a cell in a virus and discusses how enzymes and antibodies get involved as the body tries to fend off the virus. I read this book with my 6 year old and he was able to follow along. There were tons of colorful illustrations and the language was appropriate for young kids, even if they may not have ever heard of enzymes or antibodies before.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – words & pictures for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I think that it's absolutely vital that we really help children to understand what's going on in the world right now, and how they can get involved in a solution to the problem, in this case Coronavirus. This book is incredibly helpful and educational and I really hope that a lot of children get their hands on this book as it's a very important book for children.
This book is so relevant right now with COVID19 invading our lives and bodies. It exposes the truth about the virus that is causing so much pain and grief all around the world! Kid's lives have changed drastically because of this dangerous virus and this book will explain to them in simple terms, enriched by bold cartoon-like illustrations, what is happening.
What is a virus? "Viruses are microscopic parasites that lack the capacity to thrive and reproduce outside of a host body."
This informative and educational book follows a virus as it tries to attack and ravage a healthy body. "Intruder alert!" Cells, enzymes, and antibodies snap to attention and their mission is to fight back and defeat that horrid intrusive enemy.
The artwork is bright, vibrant and very kid-friendly. The text is simple enabling little ones to understand the message of this board book and the implications of contracting a virus. Large Venetian blinds that can be opened up to the delight of youngsters make the book interactive. This book is not only perfect for sharing in homes but would be a great addition in a classroom and school library. I highly recommend it.
We were lucky to receive a free digital copy of this book from Netgalley. It is a bright picture book with clear illustrations and simple text suitable for younger readers (0-5 years). I think it would work well for 6-8 year olds too and help introduce them to the human immune system.
The child-friendly illustrations show a nasty villain virus attacking a body while the team of heroes (cells, enzymes and antibodies) work together to defeat the enemy germ.
We always enjoy picture books but this has bonus features that make it interactive. There are peep through sections, sliding sections and the story scenes cleverly change as you turn the pages.
The news is full of information about Covid-19 at the moment so this book is a really good way to understand more about viruses, how they attack our bodies, make us ill and how our body is able to fight back and defend itself!
This book brought such complex information to an understandable and enjoyable format that is perfect for young readers. I thought the illustrations and layout were perfect. I will definitely be reading this to my kindergarten students!
I'm so glad this book was ouished! I read this with my two children who are 4 and 6 years old. They enjoyed it, I enjoyed it. A very sweet, wonderful, educational way to exain to children and viruses.
Very child friendly.
This book is very cute and helps break down the way immune system fights off viruses in an engaging way. The different cells are given personas which make them seem less scary, and children can learn just how effective the immune system is. My kids really enjoy learning about how things work, especially bodies, so this will be a favorite in our house.
🦠 This book has beautiful artwork and it is simple. Perfect for children, It really explains the concept of germs and how our bodies fight the germs off!
It is great for children who are only just learning about germs/viruses. I would say the book is perfect for children 4/5years and under.
I enjoyed reading this book with my niece. She likes looking through the pictures and it also opened up a discussion about COVID-19 and ways in which we can help prevent the spread.
Thank you for sending me a digital copy of this book.
What a timely little book for kiddos! During a year where a virus is what we're all talking about, a book like this helps little ones to better understand what their parents are talking about. This book is informative and makes it easy to understand. I do wish that it included something about vaccines and what is making this specific virus so hard to fight. Overall, very good!
This was a great explanation for very young children to help them understand what is going on in the world. It was colorful and simple. I appreciated that it wasn't overly scientific or detailed because of the age group it is geared towards. I've seen plenty of books for elementary aged children, but this is the first I have seen for toddlers. It fits a perfect niche that needed a book like this.
Brightly colored and kept my children's attention! What a great way to help them understand what a virus is.
Thanks to the publishers for sharing this book. It's a cute way to teach kids about germs. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.
My kids loved this book!
We got an advance copy of it so didn't have the benefit of the whole board-book experience, but despite this we loved how the story was presented with the angry looking virus and the eager helpers trying to get rid of it.
The graphics were interesting and fun, it made sense to my four year old even without me telling the story which is always an excellent sign. It helped to explain the concept of germs., viruses and antibodies fighting really simply and in an enjoyable way. Would definitely recommend.
