Another brilliant book from TM Logan.
I loved the way it led you one way, only to pull the rug from under you.
Ellen is on the train and a woman and her baby sit near her. They make small talk and then the woman asks Ellen to hold her baby while she takes an urgent phone call.
After a while Ellen wonders where Kathryn has gone and then at the next stop she sees her getting off the train.
Ellen is confused to be left holding a stranger’s baby and when she gets to her stop, is unsure what to do next as Kathryn had left her a note telling her to trust no-one - not even the Police.
I won’t say anymore as you really need to read it to see how the story unfolds from here.
This is a very clever thriller and one of my favourites of the year.
Thanks to Bonnier Books UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I'm already a bit of a fan of this author so I had high hopes going into this book and I have to say that I was not disappointed. It hit the ground running, held me captive all the way through, spitting me out at the end wholly satisfied.
It did run me ragged throughout though and I pretty much gave up trying to second guess quite early on and just sat back and enjoyed the ride.
Ellen is on the train minding her own business when a woman goes to sit with her along with her baby. They make a bit of small talk, mostly forced as Ellen doesn't really want to engage but then the mother asks Ellen if she minds holding the baby whilst she makes a phone call. Ellen really doesn't but the mother seems a bit flustered so takes the baby. The train stops at the next station and Ellen is shocked to see that the mother has left the train. Shocked and panicked Ellen looks around for someone to raise the alarm to but, on reaching into the baby bag also left behind, sees a note addressed to her warning her not to trust anyone...
And so begins a cat and mouse game, more detail of which I am reluctant to divulge here in fear it might contain spoilers. Suffice to say that it's crammed full of twists and turns, secrets lies and duplicitous behaviour. and some rather unsavoury and untrustworthy characters. All well drawn and all playing their parts with aplomb.
Ok so some of the plot skirts credibility - I have to admit that - I did roll my eyes a tad along the way but, and this is important. To me the niggles I had along the way were insignificant compared to the fun I was having reading the book. It was entertaining and gripping enough for me to forgive the few things that were a tad off key. Maybe I am too forgiving? Who knows, but I write my experience of the book and, on the whole, I loved it. But I can also appreciate and understand that there might be those who may not be as forgiving and that implausibility is more important.
For me it was highly entertaining and kept me occupied (and quiet!) for a few wonderfully spent hours in its company. Making me hanker for and wonder what's next from Mr Logan next time.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Having read a couple of previous books by T. M. Logan I couldn’t wait to request it on NetGalley and when I was approved I couldn’t wait to get started. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect but I loved it.
Trust Me is a fast paced and gripping book, with a well-executed plot that had me swiping through the pages on my Kindle until the very end. I did work out the ending but I wasn’t disappointed as there were plenty of twists that I didn’t see coming.
The book is told through multiple points of view, the main one being from Ellen the main protagonists. We don’t know who some of the points of views belong to at first but all is revealed at the end. I thought this worked very well in adding the little bit of extra suspense and mystery.
The characterisation was spot on for me. The characters felt believable and well developed. The main protagonists Ellen was definitely my favourite. You know from the very start that she is a character you know you will like. I liked Ellen’s character as she came across brave, caring character who can be resourceful and quick thing thanks to her Navy background.
This was a truly addictive read and would recommend to anyone who is looking for an action packed, fast paced read. Trust Me is definitely my favourite book from T. M. Logan, and can’t wait to give his other books a go.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers Zaffre (Bonnier Books UK) for my eARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
A brilliant book full of twists and turns.
Ellen is handed a baby to look after on the train whilst her mom takes a phone call. The babies mom never returns Ellen is left looking after the baby. In the baby’s bag she finds a note PLEASE PROTECT MIA, DON’T TRUST THE POLICE, DON’T TRUST ANYONE. Can Ellen protect Mia and return her to her mother.
Just when you think you have worked out what’s happening another twist is added.
Another amazing book by TM Logan, whether reading the book or listening to the audio version this is an author not to be ignored.
This puts the phrase "left holding the baby" to a new dimension.
Brilliant! Oncec you pick this up you will not want to put it down.
Thanks to Bonnier Books UK and Netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review
Brilliant!! This book had my heart pounding from start to finish!
I am new to this author but will certainly be reading more!
Fast paced, gripping and with so many twists you won’t know which way is up.
Ellen, wants to be a mother more than anything. So when she is handed a baby by a stranger and asked to look after her, she is left in a dilemma.
From here her whole world is turned upside down as she comes into contact with many people, all telling to “trust me”....but they can’t all be telling the truth.
Ellen has to work out who is the real bad guy, in order to protect Mia from being the next victim of a serial killer.
Absolutely thrilling, I loved it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier Books UK for this arc in exchange for an honest review. Another cracking read from T.M Logan. Having previously read The Holiday and The Catch I was delighted to get my hands on this book. It's a pacy thriller that grabbed me from the first pages. Id definitely be recommending this one. It's bound to be a huge hit.
Well, what a brilliant title this book has. "Trust Me" is just two little words, but when people tell you to trust them, can you really!
Ellen was only holding a baby for a fellow passenger on the train, just helping while an important phone call was being taken. An innocent act, and yet one that leaves Ellen in more danger than she had realised would be possible.
The thing the author has done with this story, apart from making it highly addictive, is to leave the reader wondering who to trust. Like Ellen, I was introduced to characters who all seem to have a reason for their actions. This act of asking for trust is one that is used to high effect throughout the story. The problem is is that when the main character, along with the reader, doesn't know the full story. Hearing only one side of a person argument is one thing, but when it seems that every person's version is slightly different it does make you wonder.
While I read the story I found myself changing my mind about who the main culprit was, as the author divulged more and more information like breadcrumbs. I do admit that I did get to the who, but I think this was down to a couple of clever sentences that the author gave. It wasn't one of those "eureka" moments, more of an "I wonder if it was..." moment.
The pacing is really good and it does fit this style of story. It is not overly fast and this is ideal as all the pieces of the puzzle are tweaked until they finally fall into place. There are several things that are seemingly unconnected, but gradually they do link.
This is quite a tense thriller as Ellen tries desperately to discover the truth. It does have a police investigation that runs in the background, but the story focuses on Ellen involvement more. This is an intriguing read and its one that falls into the crime, thriller and mystery genre. It's one I would recommend.
Trust Me is the second book I’ve read by T.M.Logan and this one definitely doesn’t disappoint.
Ellen is the main character in this tense, fast paced thriller, we meet up with her when she is in the train home after being told she will never have children. Her marriage has broken down because of it and her ex is now happily with someone else and expecting their own baby so this has hit Ellen hard. On the journey home a mother and baby ask to sit at her table and she reluctantly says they can although it is the worse duo she could have asked for sitting opposite her. The mother is being barraged with texts and asks Ellen if she could hold baby Mia while she takes a call. Minutes later Ellen sees the mother on the platform walking away from the train. We follow Ellen and Mia’s journey after they alight the train but I’m not going to say any more as this will reveal too much of the storyline.
I really enjoyed this thriller, I didn’t get the right perpetrator so bonus point there as I was led well and truly up the garden path!!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bonnier Books UK, Zaffre for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
This was an excellent thriller. It had me gripped from the very first chapter. The pace and writing were great with loads of false trails and guessing involved. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
I was gifted this arc thanks to Readers First and Zaffre Books. I also was approved for the e-arc thanks to netgalley.
Before receiving this book, I had read the preview which included the first 4 chapters and this was my first impression of the book:
I have read other books by T.M Logan which I have thoroughly enjoyed so I had high expectations for this. And oh my god did it meet those expectations! I was instantly gripped. What happens next? What happens to Mia? Does Ellen keep her? Why did Kathryn leave her? And who is the skinny man - does he have an important role or is he a distraction? I need to know!
Having now read the full book, this is my full review:
From the first impression, I had an idea in my head on where the story would go. However it went down a completely unexpected route that I hadn’t imagined. It was gripping and intense - everything you want from a thriller. I did feel it went a bit eh during the middle - I couldn’t really figure out what was going on.
As soon as the plot twist was revealed, I literally sat open mouthed in shock. It completely drew me back in. I never would’ve guessed! It was always pointing towards different scenarios but wow, that was completely unexpected. I am in shock! I am mind-blown! me > 🤯 I had to take a moment to process what i’d just read!
Absolutely fantastic book, love love loved it - especially the unexpected plot twist!!
Complex thriller with lots of diverse characters. Who does the baby belong to,why was she left with a stranger, who should we believe ? A good read.
I think I must be one of the last people to read some of T.M. Logan’s work and have seen so many people raving about them so when I saw the blog tour for this I had to jump at the chance to read one.
I wasn’t sure what to expect really but the premise of this book is that a stranger hands a baby to Ellen and asks her to protect her and to trust no one. I haven’t the foggiest what I’d do in this situation! Let alone if I was then followed off the train by some dodgy passenger and the note left by the mother specified not to trust the police.
There is so much pace in this book that it’s easy to get lost in the world but trying to figure out who the killer is was not easy. I had my suspicions, but then I think I suspected practically everyone at one point or another!
The book is really fast moving and so much action happens that you just want to keep on reading and try to uncover the truth. Who is Mia and why are so many people out to get her!
I was ready to give this book 5 stars but the ending did let it down a little bit for me, I felt it was a bit rushed and there were a few unanswered questions left. More out of my own curiosity though, the actual story was all explained and that.
I’ve not read this thinking that I must read more of this authors books but I would pick another one up if I saw one - which ones would people recommend?
Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier Books UK for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Having read Lies by this author and really enjoyed it, I was keen to get started on this book too.
Right from the first page the story was exciting and absorbing. The narrative was told by Ellen, the main character and was set in the present, so the chapters flowed nicely which made for easy reading.
The plot was twisty and kept the reader guessing who, if anyone could be trusted.
Towards the end of the story I did spot a clue and guessed how the plot was going to manifest. This did spoil my enjoyment of the end a little bit, but maybe that was more to do with a little disappointment of another sort, but that would be a spoiler!
Fans of T M Logan will not be disappointed with this latest of his psychological suspense offerings. He is very persuasive at writing from a female viewpoint - I found his main narrator/protagonist totally convincing in her reactions and behaviour in this highly charged and fast-paced thriller. There are so many heart-stopping moments in the final pages that it was a relief to get to the end!
If you like thrillers with a twist you will absolutely love this book. I’ve read T.M Logan’s earlier novels so was excited to receive this new one as a review copy.
Wow, what a rollercoaster of a read which started as soon as I opened the book. Ellen is on a train when a young woman, Kathryn, sits opposite her. Kathryn looks a bit stressed and worried so when she asks Ellen to hold her baby, Mia, whilst she makes a phone call, Ellen is happy to oblige, particularly as she loves children despite her current problems having one of her own.
However Kathryn does not return, getting off the train at the next station and Ellen is literally left holding the baby. She is not sure what to do but decides to deliver Mia to the authorities when she gets to the final stop. Unfortunately events overtake her before she can find anyone to help and Ellen is not even sure who to trust when she finds a warning in Mia’s changing bag that even the police could be involved in trying to harm the baby.
When Ellen and Mia are subsequently kidnapped after leaving the train, things really take off and she is caught up in something she does not really understand
This was such a fantastic thriller which really kept me on my toes. Whenever I thought I had worked out what was going on there was another twist. Like Ellen, I didn’t really know who to trust and why Mia was in such danger.
Ellen was a great character, very resourceful, and she turns out to be much more than a random stranger on a train as she is determined to protect baby Mia and find out what is going on. She has an interesting back story and every reason to want to save Mia as well as the capability to do so.
This is definitely a five star thriller and I highly recommend its purchase when it is published later this month.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Great storyline, great characters and there was a lot of twists and turns along the way. Enjoyed it. I have liked everything this author has written
You cant beat the start of this, unassuming lady on a train, annoyed by a baby and Mum that comes to sit with them, Mum ‘has’ to take a call and asks if she can hold the baby, train pulls into a station, Mum is seen walking away, baby left with unassuming lady
Great start, its taut, exciting, intriguing and suspenseful, and when they both get kidnapped it ratchets up all those things even more
T.M.Logan is a great ‘tale teller’, he captivates with his easy writing style, this book is no different, the style and ease of the writing is superb it really is
However.....as the story unfolds it all goes pear shape in it’s believability, for me anyway, it goes off at a tangent and just never regained it’s initial plausibility and I guessed the culprit very early on ( due to the constant barrage of evidence against the person we were meant to think it was, it was too much one way)
All told though if you put that to one side its a superb read, doesn’t make much sense anno, it’s hard to put in words great writing and not such a good story!
So will leave it there
5/10
Hovers somewhere between a 2 and a 3 Stars
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book I've read Logans previous work & was excited to read this. It was a good read and I liked the characters. It was hard to put down & a really good read
Thanks to T.M Logan, Bonnier Books and NetGalley for this advance review copy of Trust Me,
Have you ever been so excited to read a book that you are nervous to start in case it doesn't live up to your expectations?! This was me with Trust Me! I am a HUGE fan of T.M Logan - having read and really enjoyed his other books The Holiday and most recently The Catch. When I read the blurb for Trust Me, I couldn't wait to see what his latest thriller had in store. The good news is - it most DEFINITELY did not disappoint!
The story starts with a bang. Ellen is on the train when a flustered young woman with a baby descends in a flurry into the seat opposite her. When the woman's phone doesn't stop ringing, she asks Ellen if she would mind holding the baby (Mia) whilst she takes an urgent call. Despite this being a heart aching reminder of the role she will most likely never have; Ellen agrees. 5 minutes pass, then 10 and Ellen begins to feel uneasy. Just as she's about to go and look for the woman, she is horrified to spot her fleeing on the platform - leaving the train - and baby Mia - behind.
In amongst the baby's possessions she finds a note that makes her heart stop. "Please protect Mia. Don't trust the Police. Don't trust anyone"
The moments that follow and the decisions Ellen has to make will change both her and baby Mia's lives forever. How far is Ellen willing to go to save a stranger? Can she trust anyone and is everything as it seems?
I read this book from cover to cover in one sitting, and if I am honest, I think I forgot to breathe for most of the second half. There are lots of twists, revelations and reveals that it leaves you guessing page after page, and even when I did figure out the truth I still found myself gasping and manically flicking the pages in those final moments,
A cleverly weaved storyline with a super satisfying conclusion - another fab edge of your seat thriller from T.M.Logan - pre order it now - you wont be disappointed!
