Wooooow this went a whole other way I’d thought it would take !!
When I was looking through Netgalley in search for a good thriller, I quickly found the Stalker, I asked if I could read it and when I got the email, that my demand was accepted I was so excited !! It seemed amazing.
And amazing it was, I’m writing this, 5 minutes after I finished the book and I’m still in a “wtf just happened “ mood... it did take some time to get into it, but the last half of the book got me hooked ! Wow.
Imagine you’re on your honeymoon, with the man you love the most, on an island with no other people on it. But you’re feeling watched, strange things happen and you and your hubby know that you’re not alone on the island. But who is there and why did that person scratched the word “Devil” on the window of the cottage ?....
I loved the writing style, it was super fluid and I imagined myself being on the island, feeling the cold wind through my hair. I loved it. I loved the ambiance, the setting and the ending. Again, just wow.
Fast-paced, tense, and engaging, this is the kind of thriller that you’ll finish in a day. This book is a real nail-biter with a creepy and sinister atmosphere that you can really sink your teeth into and a twist that you won’t see coming.
This novel was sent to me on Kindle by Netgalley for review. It is a character driven story with characters who are far from likeable. The story is dark and intriguing. There are twists and turns and a surprise conclusion. A lonely island...a couple who appear to be in love...are they? A stranger watching...no phones...no one to help...sounds familiar...other books have had this same theme...what will happen next??? Read and discover...some language not needed.
The Stalker by Sarah Alderson - Book Review
It was supposed to be the perfect honeymoon, Liam and Laura visit a remote island off the coast of Scotland. A lovely, isolated cottage surrounded by nothing except the beauty of nature… and the eyes of a stalker.
They soon realise that they are not the only ones on the island and their romantic getaway quickly turns into a nightmare. They soon realise the stalkers wants so much more than to just watch them from a distance and has made sure they cannot escape from the island.
When I got this book, I felt the title was incredibly unoriginal or simply lacked creativity – this sort of thing usually puts me off, but as it happens, I really like reading books with stalkers! And I know they say, “You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover,” but I almost always do! And I loved the cover.
The story starts slow and I didn’t mind that because it was written very well, and the characters grew on me almost instantly. I liked Laura – her vulnerability and insecurities made her relatable. I felt that the setting was perfect for this sort of book and the author was brilliant in creating the atmosphere without getting lost in the descriptive details.
I literally felt chills while reading this. It was incredibly suspenseful and reminded me of so many great thriller stories except this was a grade above most especially with the plot twists. This is definitely the type of book that defines “edge of the seat” thrillers. I found it hard to put down. I needed to know it would end and I was not disappointed.
There are many triggers in the story, and I think there will be some people who might find elements hard to digest. Overall, I really enjoyed reading The Stalker – well done, Sarah Alderson, for keeping me up for hours at night!
I really enjoyed this! Fast moving straight from the beginning, easy to follow and so gripping; one chapter soon became four!
I had the horrible feeling of something hanging over my shoulder, and at the end of part one I realised why!
I’m not usually a fan of books where suddenly we’re introduced to a whole new storyline but this absolutely made it.
I finished this within a day, an excellent thriller perfect for a lazy summer day!
Thanks to AVON, NetGalley and to Sophie Alderson!
Sarah Alderson never disappoints and I was excited to be given an ARC courtesy of NetGalley. "The Stalker" follows a couple on their delayed honeymoon and as the characters develop you begin to realize that somethings are not as they seem. Of course, you have to read to the end of the book to see the reality but the reading adventure to get there is beyond exciting!
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for this ARC. I have never read any books by Sarah Alderson, and was unfamiliar with her work. However, after reading The Stalker I believe I need to get more acquainted! Who doesn't love a good psychological thriller with the idea of ghosts thrown in on a deserted island! I was hooked from the very beginning, did find it a little slow at times but the twist ending made up for all that. Add the additional detailed writing of the description of this island off the coast of Scotland, and you won't be disappointed. Don't waste time, try to get this book, it's great!
Okay y'all, this one is spooky! This one is very scary- kept me on the edge of my seat and had a hard time reading it at night haha!
This read like a horror film and I AM ALL FOR IT. This Gothic feeling book had me feeling chills a few times to where I needed to take a break and walk away. That's how you want your scary books to make you feel. I am so thankful to have received this ARC, I will be reading EVERYTHING Sarah Alderson writes.
I read and loved Sarah’s last book, The Weekend Away, so jumped at the chance to read an advance copy of her new book which is due out 8/7/21.
All I can say is put an afternoon aside as you will want to read this in one day.
Newlyweds Liam and Laura head to a deserted Scottish island for their honeymoon. The island has only one property which has recently been bought to rent out and they are the first to stay there. The island also has a terrible history which they are unaware of until they arrive.
With no phone, mobile signal or Wi-fi this should be a romantic getaway with no distractions.
Or so they think. When they start to feel they are being watched and are not alone on the island as promised, Liam is initially annoyed, but annoyance soon turns to fear when a threatening message is scratched into their window and they realise there is a stalker out there.
Oh my gosh what a pulse racer of a thriller! The tension builds and builds throughout and what an ending! I could feel the fear bursting off the pages.
Highly recommended.
Sarah has been added to my list of must read authors!
Thank you to Ellie at Avon books for an advance copy of this book through NetGalley.
Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of The Stalker by Sarah Alderson. This was a thriller with a surprising twist! Loved this so much! Author knows how to set the atmosphere. Major creepy vibes in this one. I will read this author again. Thank you.
The Stalker starts with what sounds likes an ideal vacation, island, ruins, no other people, beaches, cliffs, sign me up, dream vacation. And then, not so much...This book was super fast-paced, but then I got to the second half. Mind blown. It took such a crazy, unexpected turn, I ended up finishing it in one sitting,
I got this book from Netgalley. It was under True Crime my favorite genre (nonfiction). Only to be disappointed that it wasn’t.
What’s meant to be a romantic honeymoon. Soon turns into strange things happening. And the feeling someone is watching you. This book definitely had a twist or two towards the end of the book.
It's been ages since I read a crackling thriller and this ticked most of the boxes. The story is well paced and twisted, I am partial to Scottish settings so that's another win and the cover is extremely pretty me thinks!
What began as a holiday, or a honeymoon tobhe specific turns into a nightmare for the newly wed couple, Laura and Liam! Supposedly disconnected from the world, all alone on the remote Isle of Shurra, they want to spend a week exploring the wilderness and spending time with each other when things start rolling downhill as they feel a presence on the otherwise uninhabited island. Should they have listened to the locals that there are spirits or is it someone with something sinister in mind? Those are the questions the book will answer as you keep turning the pages ahead.
A pretty decent thriller with a good story!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for lending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review
P.S - at about 75% there's a typing error which gave away the rest of the story to me.
Hope it helps in making a correction.
This one had me hooked from the beginning and I devoured it in less than 24 hours! It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. If you're looking for a thriller with an unexpected twist, this is it. I had to go back and re-read some of the earlier passages from the point of view of the Stalker once I was finished in order for it all to make sense, but once I did the author's intent became clear to me. Hard to say more without giving away spoilers. The atmosphere created by the isolated island off Scotland also drew me in greatly - I'm a sucker for a beautiful (even harrowing so) locale. I definitely felt tense while reading this, but hey that's part of the enticement. I see this being made into a horror movie in the near future and I'm all down to watch it!
♡ I wasn't hyped by this book in the beginning when I read. But as I went through the story, it got me fired up.
♡ The book is slow paced and I really want to appreciate the author for writing a detailed script. I mean how can someone write all the minute happenings. How can someone even find the words for it. I really got amazed by that. It's as if the book and the story was revolving around me.
♡ And here comes the main part, the TWISTS. I wasn't even expecting for it, to be honest. Not just one twist but many. And the truth revelations was perfectly fitted at the right time.
♡ The story has been set upon a sensitive topic, a sensitive issue that's prevailing even now. A issue that everyone needs to be aware of, that everyone needs to voice it out. And that has been brought out by the author really well.
♡ The Un - guessable twists and turns, the shocking revelations and especially the suspense of the book makes me rate it out 5 on 5
♡ The story was justified well. I had some small doubts to be clarified, yet that doesn't bring the ratings down. So yeah,
♡ I would suggest this book to everyone, every girl out there to know and learn from this book, how to go after what you want and how to voice it out by being strong before you get drowned by it.
Wow this book was good!! I read it in two sittings - I was following the story line wondering what was going to happen next then POW!!!!! Everything I thought was happening was turned on his head - the story was even darker than I first thought! So well written and keeping you on the edge of your seat! It’s all about perspective, and whether you see what you want to see. Or question - and the strength we have inside ourselves that in extreme situations can help us endure the unendurable.
4 solid stars!
Liam and Laura are newlyweds finally taking their postponed honeymoon on a remote island off the coast of Scotland. They have the whole island to themselves for seven days and it seems like the perfect romantic getaway. But Laura can't shake the feeling that she's being watched. She brushes it off thinking the tragic history of the island is just rattling her nerves but after a few strange occurrences, both Liam and Laura quickly realize they are not alone on the island and their romantic getaway turns into a struggle to survive.
This had me on the edge of my seat until the very last page! The setting was perfect and the general creep factor was just enough for me not to get bored. I enjoyed the storyline and trying to figure out who 'the stalker' is. I had one theory but once I reached the big reveal/twist, I was genuinely surprised and caught off guard. I had to stop and reread the last few pages. It was brilliant! There were some intense moments which I believe may be triggering to some readers but I'm not sure I can say what they are without hinting towards the ending of the story.
This would have been a 5 star read for me if it weren't for a couple of things. I feel like the pacing was a bit off, especially after the big twist. I understand the perspective had to shift but it just didn't match the tone of the first half of the story. Also, I will say that something was written before the reveal that I'm not sure if it was deliberate foreshadowing but I had brushed it off as a minor typo. But it did make me stop reading and backtrack for a moment. Nonetheless it was a fun and twisty ride and I look forward to reading more from this author.
Special thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. The Stalker is set to be released on July 8, 2021.
A pretty good thriller. The best thing about it was the atmosphere during the middle parts, it was so good, so suspenseful, and actually quite scary as well. The characters' anxiety translated onto the page really well and I was actually getting paranoid while reading. The introduction was a bit too long and it took a while until the story picked up, which was why I found the pacing a bit uneven. The ending was also hit and miss for me, I liked the twist with Mia but I feel like the rest of the story was pretty convenient and just the easiest way out. There wasn't a grand finale and everything was suddenly very easy, and I had just hoped for more conflict and suspense during those last chapters.
SO scary! This book was a great thriller book. Wow! I love a good thriller but don’t read home alone. LOL
This twist at the end was great. I didn’t see that coming at all. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy of this book. I will definitely be checking out more by this author because I love a good thriller. Very frightening at times for sure. I few times I looked over my shoulder.
