This is a great book about nature for preschool kids.

The book has great illustrations and is laid out nicely. There are facts to learn about as well as activities and quizzes.

A good way to encourage kids to explore the nature in their own garden.

Nature Smarts Workbook 1; Ages 4–6 is an engagingly colorful and accessible field guide/workbook for outdoor learning activities for young kids presented by Mass Audubon. Due out 10th May 2022 from Storey, it's 96 pages and will be available in paperback format.

Throughout the book the vocabulary words which might be unfamiliar to readers are written in the text and defined immediately negating the necessity of accessing other books or the internet. I liked that the emphasis is on learning, appreciating, and guarding our natural world and showing the interconnections between living creatures (including us). I also liked that the puzzles and activities are really fun. I also liked that the creative team made the effort to include a diverse group of kids in the tutorial illustrations (STEAM projects are for -everyone- and representation is important).

This is a workbook, and it's arranged in activity pages. The activities are grouped thematically: the world under your feet, fur scales & tails, feathered friends, plant power, and weather water & wind. The quizzes and puzzles scattered throughout, have an answer key at the back of the book, along with some sticker pages.

Activities are age appropriate and the language and concepts throughout will challenge, but not frustrate, most kids in the age range (4-6 years).

I've been banging on for years on my blog (and real life) about STEAM subjects and how vital they are for our future. This book would make a great choice for a classroom library, gift for a young naturalist, library activity project, home library, or similar use.

Five stars, there's a lot to like here.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This is the cutest Nature Workbook! It has cute activities that can be done inside and outside with great educational content for the younger kids. I would buy this for my son in a heartbeat.

Interesting book, perfect for the age its aimed at, children will obviously need someone to sit with them and support their reading needs but it really is a fun book, unfortunately my two couldn't benefit from some of the activities being an eBook but it would be really nurturing for a child to have physically.

The book itself focus on wildlife in North America which is important for all children to learn about however, I can't really recommend it for all children here, in England as some parents may not find its benefit, though we prefer our children to have a wide reading range and this is why it's beneficial to us personally.

Illustrations were very good and made it pretty accessible for children to understand what they were which I really liked! The eldest child nearly six could mostly read to herself and follow the instructions, however the smaller four year old needed assistance and support.

Many thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the chance to review this free ARC - I very much appreciate it and have left my review in return!

The nonfiction book is for ages 4-6 years old. It makes nature fun to learn. There are mazes, games, quizzes and outdoor science projects. It does focus on observation skills and the investigation method. This workbook presents endless projects for discovery and learning. After all, doesn’t one want to know the parts of insects?

Could an activity book make me long for the summer of 2020 and the days of unplanned home schooling? No. No book could do that. But, I so wish I had had this book then! It is basically flawless. The games are fun and accessible. The activities are engaging and well developed, including reflection questions that I think my young reader would actually enjoy.

Kid tested and Marmie approved, we give this workbook a two thumbs up review. My prekindergarten granddaughter and I read through the book and she loved it.! With short descriptions and facts followed by activities to do, this book is engaging and perfect for young children. The mazes were of particular interest and her comments when we looked at the hands-on activities was, "I'm ready! Let's do science!" I don't think you could get a better endorsement. :) This would be excellent for those who are looking for a colorful and interesting science workbook for children ages 4-6. I highly recommend it.

I received an electronic copy of the book from the publisher through NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are our own.

With being a home-school mom as well as working at our local library, I am always on the hunt for the best books or activity books to support our education. My 4, almost 5 year old will be starting a kindergarten curriculum in the fall and this will be an amazing resource that aligns well with the course. I can't wait to pre-order this for our home collection.

This a wonderful workbook for beginning school age children. It contains a lot of introductory information for small kids about nature including plants, animals, and the environment . It teaches concepts in fun and enjoyable ways, using things like stickers and mazes, so kids do not even realize they are learning. It also includes school age core concepts like math and language. There are a variety of activities and experiments to expand on concepts and help encourage kids to head outdoors. This book is perfect to complete over summer to prepare kids for school or divided up into sections over weekends to just have fun.

Thoroughly enjoyed exploring this activity book. It's beautifully illustrated and I love the fact that there were a range of activities that could be done either exploring with nature outside or snuggled up inside. Depending upon the reading level of your child would depend upon whether they would be able to use the activity book independently or whether they would need support in reading the instructions to go with the activities. My daughter is 5 and lots of the workbook she could read herself but some parts she needed help with. There was a great variety of activities and instructions were simple and easy to follow. I liked the style where there was a short informative piece of text, for example about what makes a minibeast an insect and then the activity helped consolidate what you learnt. We'll be purchasing a physical copy of this book when it is released and I'd be very interested in seeing more in the series.

Thanks for the eARC #NetGalley and #Storey #NatureSmartsWorkbookAges46

A lovely book, but not for the UK market.

This is a lovely book, crammed full of nature-themed games, puzzles and activities. However, many of the pages include creatures not seen in the UK, for example, skunk, raccoon, salamander, red-winged blackbird, hummingbird, moose, turtle… and the robin and woodpecker look different! Whilst many of the activities can still be carried out in spite of the differences between UK and US endemic wildlife, I believe that young children, and perhaps even their parents, will just be confused and believe that these birds and animals may well be found in their local area. A disclaimer at the start of the book advising that it features wildlife found in North America would have helped. Because of this, I cannot recommend this book for the UK market.

I would like to thank NetGalley for giving me a free advance reader copy of this book to review. This review is my own honest and independent opinion of the book.

This is a fantastic book! My child is only 3.5 so she's a little bit below the age range but I think she would still have a lot of fun with it. She can do mazes and loves matching up stickers, and I would just need to help her a little bit with some of the other activities, so I think that the book would still be great even for slightly younger kiddos. I'm looking forward to the summer when we can actually get outside and start digging in the dirt! Thank you to the Massachusetts Audubon Society and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review!

I really love this workbook. Its targeted perfectly for the ages 4-6. They really took the time to make the illustrations engaging and put them on every page to really attract the reader. It has such a great mixture of nature facts from plants, insects, animals, birds, weather, and more. I even learned many neat facts reading through it myself. It's super interactive with everything from mazes, stickers, scavenger hunts, games, experiments, and more. You can do everything from growing plants, making a simple bird feeder, creating your own beaver dam, and tons of other fun activities mixed throughout it. It will definitely keep the reader engaged and having fun, without even making them realize they are learning. This would be great for a nature lover, the classroom, nature centers, homeschooling, etc. Excellent mixture of everything.

I teach in a Forest School and run two family hiking groups. I can assure you, these will be suggested. I cannot believe how amazing these workbooks were. They were PERFECT not only for little minds building skills but also for nature lovers embracing new facts. I cannot wait for these to be printed so I can purchase them. These will be big hits with nature-loving families

This is a lovely nature workbook for ages 4-6. It would make an excellent supplement to any preschool-kindergarten curriculum. Bear in mind, this is coming from the Mass Audubon Society and is very specific to the North East USA. I really only recommend this for folks who live in that geographic region as there are experiments and suggestions for outside activities specific to that region. (There was one page about a cactus in a dessert, but otherwise all the animal/plant/climate stuff is specific to the NE US.)

Within you'll find mazes, dot-to-dots, stickers, scavenger hunts, nature crafts, experiments, and kid-friendly nature science information. I like the focus on getting outside and exploring. All of the activities seem like they would be high interest to the target age group.
