This is a great mystery book. While the story wasn't groundbreaking, it kept me completely engaged and turning the page to find out what would happen next. I enjoyed the characters and their development throughout the story. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a book that will grab your attention and keep you turning the page.

Could she really have been married to the notorious teacher serial killer? She could not believe it; from a wife beater to a serial killer? Thankfully they suspected he was dead, mauled by animals in Alaska.

Cameron is a dentist with a thriving practice in Seattle. She is well known to a thirty-year detective called Tanner Mulholland. Now she is without a husband. The papers are saying that she is suspected of being complicit in John’s lifetime killing spree. Her dental clients canceled their appointments in droves and she discovers John had taken loans out against their home.

The author writes a very intricate and believable story. The obstacles faced by the protagonist are often daunting. Set in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, the settings become believable and spectacular. The distances traveled and the obstacles encountered are hard to believe. Enjoy the narrative and encounter nearly impossible odds with this intrepid heroine. 4.5 stars – CE Williams

I really enjoyed The Final Hunt by Audrey J. Cole. In this story, Cameron discovers that her deceased husband Jonh was actually a serial killer! Yikes! After turning in evidence to the police, Cameron's life takes a nosedive and she loses her home as well as her successful business. As time goes on, Cameron starts to wonder if John really did die in that bear attack, since his body was never recovered.
This was a fast paced book and I really enjoyed it! A first for me from this author but I will definitely be seeking out more books by Audrey J. Cole!

THE PLOT
“Alone in a hunting cabin, off-grid in an untamed wilderness. How does marriage come to this?”

Cameron’s husband John has disappeared while hunting and is presumed dead from a bear attack. After this, she finds the crime photos. John’s role in the recent Seattle serial murders was discovered. Cameron believes if her husband could hide the unimaginable from her, who’s to say he is truly dead?

MY OPINION
DNF at 48%. I really did not care about anything while reading this book. I found it so boring. None of the characters felt real. I did not care what happened to Cameron and I didn’t care to find out.

This was a brilliant read. So much so that I read it last night in one sitting. I loved that the story started after the serial killings had been done and after the perpetrator had been caught. It was really interesting how the ones left behind deal with the situation as well as how they get their revenge.

A lovely thriller to sink my teeth into (wink wink)!

This was right up my alley - serial killer, Alaskan wilderness, log cabins- I love it all!

The story was easy to follow, I devoured the book in one day, I just could not put it down. I loved the atmosphere it created!

The characters were relatable, the storyline full of all kinds of different turns and overall - a very enjoyable book.
I would not call it an edge-of-the-seat thriller, but it was great in its own way.

I guessed the accomplice very early on, but that did not take away from the enjoyment of reading.

Overall, strong 4 stars. Read during the UK heatwave 2022, so this book was great to cool me down :)

Thank you,NetGalley for the ARC!

This book was great. I had the “twist” figured out pretty quick. With that said the plot and the characters was what really made this book great to me. Cameron is a great protagonist because of the flaws she shows. She is by no means perfect and I imagine I would handle the “husband is a serial killer” news the same way she did, with lots of drinking!

The Final Hunt is a cookie-cutter mystery-thriller with minimal deviations from what's to be expected. But then, when I thought I wasn't enjoying myself, Cole threw in a totally random and extreme instalove to ensure I was as miserable as possible.

Not a single character is believable. Cameron is a weird mix of cold, meticulous killer and completely oblivious to her surroundings. John is definitely not a serial killer. Maybe I would believe a serial rapist but not someone who would get away with serious crime for a week, let alone years. The entire scenario was predictable from the first chapter. Not even chapter - the prologue gives the game away.

The Final Hunt made me want to go to Alaska. That's about it.

The Final Hunt by Audrey J Cole is a thriller with a lot of twists. When her husband John disappears during a hunting trip and is presumed dead from a bear attack, Cameron goes to his hunting cabin since it's the place that she feels closest to him. While there though, she finds some shocking photos. Did she actually know her husband at all? And what is she hiding about her first husband? This story really kept my attention, and I especially appreciated all the interesting relationships that were explored. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. Meh:! unfortunately, this book felt it has been written so many times - too common plotline, although the way John dies is novel.

It was a fast read, but there is nothing to impress me.

Cole gives readers another engaging novel with a strong heroine and adventures from Seattle to Alaska. Cameron experiences the terror of finding out her husband is a serial killer. But then he dies on a hunting trip. Or does he? She has to find out.

I like how Cole wove the plot, giving us hints of something in Cameron's history that makes us wonder if she is an innocent bystander to the murders or not. Regardless, Cameron suffers greatly from her husband's actions. The media hound her. She loses patients in her dental practice, a guilt by association ramification of her marriage.

I did feel Cameron's adventures in Alaska were a bit unbelievable. And that a trooper would so easily develop romantic feelings for her did not ring realistic. I did like learning much about winter camping and ice fishing in Alaska.

This is a book for readers who like an amazing heroine, over the top Alaska adventures and an ending that was too neat. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I like reading about places I have been to or know about so I'll be watching for another novel from Cole.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Alone in a hunting cabin, off-grid in an untamed wilderness. How does a marriage come to this?
After John disappeared while hunting—presumed dead from a bear attack—Cameron found the crime photos. His role in the recent Seattle serial murders was discovered. The media destroyed her reputation. She lost her dental practice, is on the brink of losing her home.
Everyone has a secret. But if her husband could hide the unimaginable from her, who’s to say he’s truly dead?
“What brings you so far from home?” the Alaska State Trooper had asked. The truth.

WOW!! What an absolutely gripping read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

4.5 stars rounded up
A well written, fast paced and highly entertaining thriller that had me hooked from the first chapter. Even though I figured it all out early on, I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting. The story begins with a bear attack in which Cameron's husband is killed. She quickly discovers he is a serial killer but things aren't adding up about his death and she begins her own investigation. Cameron is tough and has went through a lot in her life. I really liked her but my favorite character was the police detective, Mulholland. Nothing gets past him and I hope to see him in future books which I will definitely be reading.

Yowza! One day you’re just living your life and the next you find out your husband was a notorious serial killer. But don’t we all have terrible secrets? This was a quick, easy to read, action packed story with lots going on to keep my interest. In the final third of the story a little suspension of belief is needed, but it’s still a fun thriller to unfold. My favorite part was the setting being on the Washington Coast, my home, so all of it felt so familiar. The premise of this book caught my attention as I'm a sucker for a good "wife of a serial killer" book. However, this was not it.

It started off promising, with Cameron having her entire life fall apart before her eyes after she finds proof that her deceased husband was actually a serial killer who was responsible for murdering eleven women. Within days, the tabloids have gone crazy with their speculation that she either knew or was an accomplice to his crimes, she's lost her dental practice, and is on the verge of losing her house. To make matters worse, the detective in charge of investigating her husband's crimes has a video of her car on the route to the cabin where the bodies of two women were recently found, on the night they were taken. At least Cameron has one ally in her corner. Her husband's best friend and partner in the law firm Simon. At least until she cuts and dyes her hair and takes off in her private plane to the wilds of Alaska based on nothing more than a hunch that her deceased husband isn't really dead at all.

And that sadly, is where the book completely fell apart. While I believe it is worth mentioning that I had already figured out what the two major plot points were going to be by the time she landed in Alaska, I still had hope for the way the author would bring it all together. Instead, we now have Cameron who has absolutely NO IDEA how to survive in the snow-covered, wilds of Alaska going on one ice fishing trip (cut short), and suddenly she is an expert in driving a snowmobile, using a map and compass, and somehow surviving every ridiculous thing the author can think to throw into the story. Crashing the snowmobile? Check. Avalanche? Check. Pack of possibly rabid wolves poised to attack? Check. I could go on, but you get the point. It was about this time I started rolling my eyes.

Her mission in Alaska fulfilled, Cameron returns home to face the fact that she disappeared after being implicitly told not to by the Detective handling her husband's case. The real accomplice is revealed, again not a surprise, but whatever, and Cameron is rescued by the Alaskan State Trooper she had just met. The same man who then destroys evidence that could be used against her, and withholds pertinent information from the lead Detective. Things that work out in his favor as he eventually gets a happily ever after with Cameron moving to be near him in Alaska and taking over a small dental practice there.

Not only was the plot completely ridiculous, but the characters weren't particularly likable either. I was most disappointed in the fact that Dane (the state trooper) after only knowing Cameron for a handful of days goes against everything he should have stood for to help her get away with all of the things she was guilty of. I also think Tanner (the lead Detective in the Teacher Killer murders as they were called) came across as a bit of a novice taking him until the epilogue of the story to even consider running a simple search that should have been run the moment Cameron mentioned her theory to him.

All things considered, I am sure there may still be those to whom this book will appeal. Sadly, it just wasn't for me.

The Final Hunt is an enjoyable thriller even though it is perfectly predictable.

Cameron has a perfect life: a prosperous dental practice, a husband who loved her, and a past she has put behind her. This all changes when her husband John and his business partner go hunting and John is mauled by a bear. Trying to take a break from her grief, she heads up to the hunting cabin. But instead of peace and tranquility, she finds evidence that her husband is a serial killer. As people blame her for the death of the woman and her practice dwindles to nothing, Cameron realized the only ones on her side are her husband's business partner and herself. Based on a gut hunch, Cameron travels to Alaska for one final hunt.

Cameron is no damsel in distress. She refuses to take the heat for her husband's atrocities. Cameron isn't physically special—in fact, she is a very normal person. Reading about her rising above is inspiring. You cheer her own as she faces nature at its extreme. Cameron was someone I truly liked. I looked forward to seeing exactly what she did as she went after her prey.

The one downside is that Audrey J. Cole makes her story too simple. There is only a handful of characters so there is very little mystery. In fact, I called the overall plot from the prologue. The author tries to cast doubt about the main character by giving her a wicked secret but the tension that might make you second guess them isn't there. Luckily, the story was a fun ride and caRRIES you along the plot.

The Final Hunt features a strong female character entangled in an easy-to-figure mystery. The story is worth reading as she finds herself in the middle of the snowy wilderness.

I really enjoyed this one! There’s something about the eerie-ness of a cabin setting for a mystery that makes it more engaging. I loved that this had different twists and turns and even when you thought you knew the whole story, the author threw something else at you. I liked the shorter chapters. This one definitely kept me engaged the whole time, I wanted to keep reading it and coming back for more!

All I can say is WOW! The Final Hunt by Audrey J. Cole is a super book for anyone that like Psychological Fiction or just a story with a lot of twists and turns. I totally enjoyed every minute I spent with the characters. She had me heart racing and my instinct alert. I got to a point in the book that did not allow me to put it down.

We find out early in the book that Cameron is married to John and he is killed in a bear attack at his hunting cabin. She starts going up there on the weekends because she feels close to John there. What she discovers while there is the evidence that her husband is a serial killer in the Seattle area. Can you imagine the man you are married to is a serial killer? Not only that, she never suspected. There were not any clues that she picked up on while he was still alive.

I've got to tell you that Cameron has a lot of spunk. She does a lot of things in this book to save herself when she know that the police were looking at her as an accomplice in the murders. She is one brave woman! She goes to Alaska, she flies her own plane and she is a dentist about to lose everything. I think if I were in her spot, I may have just waited for the police to come and get me. I loved the character development in this story. You have the good, the bad and the ugly. You've got it all.

I thought the story line was a little unbelievable at first but, as I got into it and looked back on it, I decided it was everything Cameron would have done. She was going to save her skin not matter what. I admired her spunk and tenacity. I think you will too!

The Final Hunt by Audrey J. Cole is up for pre-order. If I were you, I would order it now so it would be in my inbox on June 7th. You are sure to enjoy this thrilling book and will be cheering Cameron on until the very end.
