Hoodoo for Everyone by Sherry Shone offers an understanding and background of Hoodoo. It takes you through breaking biases, finding your guides, and being respectful of the culture and its practice. Sherry Shone takes and wraps you up with reassurance that Hoodoo is for everyone but makes sure you are fully aware that education is important. Even more important than getting the okay to practice Hoodoo is that you need to have the most respect for its history and for the people who sought deliverance practicing Hoodoo. Sherry Shone guides you to learn about herbs, shares some prayers, how to communicate, and the differences between ancestors, guides, and deities. It is a very informational, great reference book.
As a native of New Orleans and a beginner practitioner of hoodoo, this book has its definite pros and cons. It's very easy to read and give lots of information. Some of the information should be have that it is their personal practice. Also, many of the questions that were answered in the appendix should be main plot points and I would have like for more protection practices be integrated in the text.
This book was interesting. I had read a book on Hoodoo before, but it was not as in depth and informative as this one.
I found the Author knowledgeable and willing to share her views and opinions. A book you would go back to repeatedly.
Thanks to Netgalley and North Atlantic Books for the ARC. My Review is my own opinion.
I will add an amazon review once the book is published.
This is fascinating, inclusive and grounds the reader in the historical and folkloric tradition as well as how old practices can be both honoured and adapted to reflect the changing world.
this book explains how to set up a hoodoo altar, what to put on the altar and how to present give gifts/offerings to guides/spirits. i like how the author explains that we are able to use bible verses as forms of protections when working with hoodoo. explains different properties used in hoodoo such as herbs, the elements, directions etc. there is also a section on code of ethics. there are some sample spell phrases, how to cleanse, and different moon phases, and even how to find your life path number. this is a good book for those who want to learn more about hoodoo including the history and different elements that is used to prepare to conjure something. i received this arc from NG and this is my voluntary review. i wish this was in a mobi/kindle file offered, there was a lot of scrolling involved when reading in NG.
This is an interesting book written by someone who obviously knows her stuff and walks the walk. I appreciate that in an age when so many books just compile things from the internet and add cool artwork. I don't practice hoodoo and don't plan to try, but I really enjoyed learning about the practice.

As a native and resident of New Orleans I am always intrigued by studies of hoodoo or voodoo. The herbs and spells mentioned can uplift and heal. The book delves into the history of hoodoo and it's inclusiveness. I can see this becoming a classic.
It was an enlightening experience reading this book. The author has given me food for thought regarding Hoodoo. I am rereading to savor the knowledge the author is giving on these pages. I read this book via Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
When I started reading this book, I had no interest in practicing Hoodoo, but they have just changed. However I do enjoy reading about other practitioners and their practices and this book was amazingly clear and concise. If you’re interested in Hoodoo, as either a practitioner or just to learn about the practice, this is an excellent book for you to read. It will answer most of your questions and get you started if that is your desire. One of the best occult books I have read on this subject.
Perfect for witches who wish to learn more about hoodoo and it's origins, insight to the author who actively practices, and more tidbits of great information and resources.
I really enjoyed this book. As a person who had absolutely zero knowledge before this book gives a clear and concise insight into the topic. I particularly enjoyed the section on folklore and the blue lady, and very much enjoyed reading about the author’s own experience
A beginner’s guide to an inclusive Hoodoo practice--history, spellwork, folklore, and herbs If you’re interested in Hoodoo, as either a practitioner or just to learn about the practice, this is an excellent book for you to read. It will answer most of your questions and get you started if that is your desire. One of the best occult books I have read on this subject.
Stone's writing is articulate and inviting, warm but matter-of-fact. She introduces us to a modern Hoodoo faith rooted in taking care of our loved ones, helping liberate ourselves and our people. She focuses on ethics -- whether the impetus behind the works, or the gathering and using of ingredients. Each time after reading a chunk, I felt a little like I'd gone to a group therapy session: a little uplifted, a little more true to myself, and a little more seen.
Totally different from what I normally read but the title caught my eye. Highly recommend reading this. Different culture, different country, totally mesmerising. Definitely going to read her first book.
Thank you Netgalley & Sherry Shone for the advanced copy of this.
Thank you for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely wonderful and full of information.
This book was a little different than what I was expecting. There was great information indeed but I felt as if I was taking an exam 😃

This is absolutely the most powerful and well done book on Hoodoo that I have ever read. Sherry explains the whole process in terms that are easy to understand and more important, actually do, You dont need lots of stuff to do this work, just as our ancestors didnt have a new age shop to go to. I learned things I never ever knew about how to get a better life, or how to remove unwanted negativity. The whole book is a work of art. If you have any intention at all of learning how to do simple , positive things to improve your life . This book is the one for you. Many books on hoodoo have elaborate formulas and no real connection to the power needed to manifest what is needed. This book tells you why you arent getting anywhere and what to do to have success. Excellent!!!
