Intermittent fasting has become such a big thing, that curiosity got the better of me, and I picked up this book. It's easy to read, and informative, but I'd want to do more research and talk to my Dr before I tried any fasting on my own. I do like the variety of plans included, and all the different suggested exercises. Not sure if it's something I'd follow word for word, but a good starting point if you're curious about intermittent fasting.
This was really useful and a great assistance to me as I am doing intermittent fasting and trying to lose weight to help me with my long covid symptoms.
All in all really really good.
I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
Great information on intermittent fasting, geared to women. This is something I’d like to try but haven’t yet.
I will refer back to this book many times in the future.
Excellent resource of you are considering intermittent fasting. A lot of great information to help you make your decision. I can’t wait to start and see if I get any results.
This was an interesting read overall. As I am one of those people who always struggled with weight gain and loss after pregnancies and other health issues, this was interesting to read as in what would work for me at this time and other new things are nutritionists pers coming up with to help us being more healthy in a safe way.
I must admit that I flat out refuse to do some of these diets as they seem to strict and I know I will not be able to keep at them unless I end up in the hospital because no calories at all in 24h seems to much for me.
There are however many tips and other tricks that are proving to be beneficial and doable so I’m going to try that instead.
Overall it’s a great informational book that many readers will find it useful in my opinion
I am somewhat bemused by the initial chapter of this book which wisely warns against crash dieting, while then detailing versions of intermittent fasting plans which involve full days where no calories are consumed at all, or where only 800 calories are consumed every day for 2 to 12 weeks..... surely this is the definition of a crash diet?!
However the more moderate fasting plans seem easily achievable (basically seeming to be skipping breakfast and keeping dinner as early as possible) and I know of people who have lost weight successfully via this method. It's backed up with some science and psychology, and gives some guidance on nutrition too, as well as how to adapt most successfully into intermittent fasting.
The book warns against people with certain health conditions using this method of weight loss (including diabetics and those who have trouble regulation their blood sugar levels, and those who are in recovery from eating disorders) so it isn't for everybody.
Other than one chapter detailing how men and women's biology differs in how intermittent fasting might work for them, I don't think the book is particularly aimed at women and it could easily just have been one book which mentioned both male and female experience - I'm sure men could cope with reading about how the diet might affect menstruation in women.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This book delivers exactly what the title promises. It was a great guide on fasting and although I don't think fasting is for me, it was a nice and quick read.
I really liked this book but there were a few things that I didn't understand. Some of the dietary recommendations
or deductions from the diet had no explanation as to why, even though a lot of them were healthy.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
I wish I found this book years ago! I dabbled in Intermittent Fasting in the past, relying on a combination of websites, YouTube videos and Facebook Groups for my source of knowledge -- I know, shame on me! This book saves you the time, the question and wonder when it comes to Intermittent Fasting.
This book is very transparent that IF may NOT be for you. It strives to give you all of the knowledge you need to make a decision going forward. It also breaks down the different types of IF, who it is best for, how your own personality type may come into play and how to make the most out of this lifestyle.
I found it informative, knowledgeable and honest.
Thank you, NetGalley, for an e-ARC of Intermittent Fasting for Women by Healthfit Publishing.
This book delivered exactly what the description promised. A guide for intermittent fasting designed for a women's body. The book included a lot of information about intermittent fasting as well as practical advice for being successful.
An interesting overview. I did not quite finish the book, though, I eventually realized that I am not really interested in intermittent fasting in practice. No need to fast. I was just curious. However, I had the impression that the book offers sufficient insights and information for those, who are into it.
Intermittent Fasting for Women is a complete reference guide to the fasting lifestyle. Different types of plans are discussed so you can find the one that works for you. The guide is easy to follow and the book has the benefit of including emotional effects and hormones specifically experienced by women. There is plenty of related scientific research so you can trust what you are advised, sample recipes, eating and exercise plans, recipes to download, common questions and answers, and lots of references and additional information. Overall it is a great guide for anyone wanted to learn more about it and get started.
Great information and motivation. I just wish I could do it to be able to understand the book more. My will power just isn't there yet
I was really looking forward to reading this book and learning more. It was an interesting read but a lot of the information has already been posted online and in articles so it's not all new. However it is interesting to have all the information together in the book to go back and check
I received a copy of Intermittent Fasting for Women from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Intermittent fasting has sparked my interest. This book answered many of my questions.
The author explains the different plans and how they would be beneficial they would be to me. I found this section of the book helpful.
On the negative side, I skimmed the exercise section I have a good exercise routine so I didn’t need this info.
I’m definitely going to further explore the 5:2 plan. I give this book 3 stars.
During a conversation with my adult daughter about the importance of eating breakfast she told me that she hadn't eaten breakfast for several years, and that it was actually unnecessary. As a woman then in her late 60's, and brought up with that old adage that Breakfast Is THE Most Important Meal of the Day, I initially scoffed at this nonsensical idea. I have to add here that said daughter is extremely fit, practices yoga every day, and is a qualified yoga teacher so when she referred me to a certain internet channel, steering me in the direction of a particular series of lectures and videos, I decided to have a look. I was hooked, and have followed this lifestyle for a number of years. I also signed up for a gym membership and have been going regularly – except for the Covid lockdown years – ever since. My excess weight gradually dropped off and I felt so much better. All this goes by way of explaining why I wanted to read this book.
The problem I've found with this is simply that there is too much technical information. There are so many topics here:
What intermittent fasting is, how it affects women in particular, how it affects hormones, combining it with exercise and healthy diet. Different types of fasting are discussed, as are certain health problems and how fasting might affect them.
There certainly is a huge amount of information – an encyclopedia – and for me, having been on a 12 -12 (with slight variations along the way)for the past four years, it's a book I would dip into, skimming through a lot of what is now irrelevant to me.
I’ve been interested in intermittent fasting and have tried, but with this, I know I’ll succeed! Straight to the point and easy to read, this book takes you through fasting for women, barriers to overcome, and simple ideas for activity to improve success. Definitely worth the read, and as a reference guide on the intermittent fasting journey.
A good and informative book about Intermittent Fasting. I've been reading it and trying the 16:8 protocol and it's been slowly working for me. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
