I loved everything about this book! I switched back and forth between reading and listening and honestly… they’re totally equal! The narrator is fabulous, the writing is phenomenal… the storyline blows my mind!!! I loved it all! The alternating chapters and figuring out who the bad guys are and the fuzzy line between doing what’s right and doing the right thing… absolutely epic! Callie Taylor is in a class all to herself!
The Guilty Couple is really good, its fast paced and the characters are relatable. Olivia is let out of prison after being set up for allegedly arranging to have her husband killed for his life insurance. Once out she has two goals, to see her daughter and to prove her innocence.
The story does have a lot of coincidences where things just slot in to place for Olivia but its not distracting and the narrator Clare Corbett does a fantastic job at bringing the story to life. to the dramatic end.
Had me from the first chapter. Gripping story and hard to put down. I have read other books by C. L. Taylor and this one doesn't disappoint. The pace is fast and I found I was feeling as anxious as the main character. That is just what I want a good story to do - capture and involve me.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.
The Guilty Couple tells the story of Olivia, a woman sent to prison for the attempted murder of her husband. We later discover that Olivia has been framed and, on her release we watch her try to piece together the evidence that will allow her to clear her name.
I'm finding this book quite tricky to rate as there was a lot about it that I loved, but there were a number of things that really irritated me too.
The premise of the story was good; I really liked the similarities in the way the book started and ended. Some of the characters were excellently written - I particularly enjoyed 'Smithy'.
However, the writing wasn't the best and there were numerous phrases that were repeated over and over (eg. will go to prison for a very long time). There were also things that just didn't make much sense, in particular, there is a police detective who is also a personal trainer at a gym, but we rarely hear of her being at either job.
Overall, I did enjoy the book.
My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me an ARC in return for an honest review.
Wow! I was gripped from the first paragraph and became totally absorbed with this shocking thriller. Highly recommended.
Olivia has been in prison for 5 years and was wrongly accused. She believes that her husband framed her. Now that she is free she fights to clear her name and repair her relationship with her 12 year old daughter. With the help of her friends she fights for what is hers.
I honestly feel that this book was great, the storyline was catchy and the plot had you going for a while. The second half of the book could have been a bit more twisty.
The Narration was really good. A very enjoyable story that I think many will enjoy.
My thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for this ARC!
What an intruiging plot: a woman wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for a crime she didn't commit.
Yes, C.L. Taylor does it again!! A story full of twists and turns with such a strong woman in the center of it. Could not stop listening until the end!!
The narration is so well done it rounds up the book perfectly!!!
Thans #Netgalley # HarperCollins UK Audio, Avon for this listening copy
Great audiobook. Twisty and compelling.
Liv has just been released from prison after being framed by her ex-husband. She can only see her daughter on short, supervised visits with her overbearing in-laws listening to every word, and she has no money to her name. She is determined to prove her innocence and get her daughter back but the lies go much deeper than she ever realised.
I listened on audiobook thanks to Netgalley UK.
I really enjoyed this one, it was my first book by this author and has made me want to read more! I also found the narrator really good.
It was exciting and had twists and turns throughout. I liked the main character and felt myself getting annoyed on her behalf. I found there was enough suspense and thrill for the book. Overall, a good read.
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins Audio and C.L Taylor for an audio ARC in return for an honest review.
Olivia was falsely accused of the attempted murder of her husband. He framed her. Five years later and she is released from jail. Olivia is ready for her revenge.
There is only one word that does this book justice.. OUTSTANDING. ‘The Guilty Couple’
by C.L. Taylor is just phenomenal. I was hooked from the first few minutes. This books completely enthralls the reader. It is thrilling and a little eerie. I think I’ll need to reread it.
Clare Corbett’s narration was the icing on top of the cake. Very well suited.
I’d give this book 10 stars if I could.
Although I did enjoy to listen to this book, I thought it was a bit slow at times and I did find myself skipping forward a few sections. I also struggled to understand Olivia and I think that didn't help either. Overall it was still interesting and it kept me going until the end. Thanks for the opportunity to listen to this ARC.
Thank you for this advanced copy. I liked this book, but did skip around some in the middle. For whatever reason, these audiobooks are not the clearest for me. It was a little slow in the middle so i skipped an hour or so to get toward the end. Overall, it wasn't bad.
I absolutely love C L Taylors books and with Claire Corbett narrating I was delighted to get an advance audio copy of this book.
Unfortunately it didn't grip me as much as I'd hoped, so took me a while to get into the story and some of the characters were insufferable (Dom) and Olivia was a bit too naive and "woe is me" at the outset.
I also felt some of the side plots were a bit unnecessary.
However I did really like Smithy and when Olivia got some backbone and there were a few twists that kept me guessing, the narration really added to the story too.
My thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for my advance copy in return for my honest review.
I loved this book, listening to it on audio brought another dimension to it. It was a fast paced thriller that kept me hooked with all the twists and turns in it. I found the characters very relatable. Highly recommended. Five stars from me.
Many thanks to netgalley and C.L. Taylor for the advanced copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.
It’s hard to imagine how you would act if like Olivia you had been set up by your husband for a crime you didn’t commit. ( this is not a spoiler as it’s in the blurb) but I did try.even. Even with my sympathetic head on I can’t say I could agree with her decisions though. I won’t give any of the plot away but do have to comment on how lucky she was at ‘hearing’ things she wasn’t supposed to.
The Guilty Couple very much fits into the 'domestic thriller' category from the Gone Girl, Girl on the Train, The Couple Next Door stable and is no less enjoyable for that.. It moves along at a rattling good pace and what I enjoyed about Olivia's journey is that she rarely fell into the 'do nothing' bracket. She's pretty active in following her goals and rarely sits alone weeping, which is really refreshing.
There are perhaps a few too many coincidences littering the plot - in a city the size and scope of London it is rare for people to overlap so consistently, but again, that aside, it's all very good thriller-y fun,
I would have liked to know more about the mechanics of the original plot against Olivia, how it was hatched and perpetrated as the beginning of this story holds as much interest as the end.
Overall C.L. Taylor has done it again, take it to the beach, listen on a jog, root for Olivia and her plucky group of mates and enjoy a twisty old ride.
I’m a little mixed in my feelings about this one. Where the blurb promises an exciting listen unfortunately it didn’t live up to that. The storyline is told from several points of view which is always a plus but there was a good few side plots going on that took away from the main event. There are likeable and not so likeable characters. Some you are invested in and some you don’t care for at all. Claire Corbett is one of my favourite narrators and she did an excellent job as always. I didn’t like nor dislike it as this theme has been done before… a few times in fact.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC that’s due for release on the 23rd of June.
C. L. Taylor is an instant buy author for me and I generally really enjoy her work.
However this one didn't really hit the mark for me. I found the main character quite unlikeable and I didn't really care about her or any of the supporting cast. Her daughter was insufferable with plot points that were introduced but then entirely unexplored further. I enjoyed the story arc twists, they were somewhat expected/predictable but still enjoyable to see played out.
The narrator for this did a great job and was easy to listen to.
Not her strongest offering but enjoyable none the less, I would still pick up more in the future.
Big thanks to the publisher and netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Brilliant! I love this author’s plots, so intricate and twisty.
The narrator is good, easy to understand and listen to.
The guilty couple is a complex tale of betrayal, fraud, guilt and love. Who is the guilty person and who has been set up?
This book will keep you guessing and the ending is great.
A real page turner, I listened to it in one go!
I usually really enjoy books from C L Taylor but for some reason this one didn’t hit the spot. It seemed to drag on and not really get anywhere. The narrator was great, but due to the amount of characters I think it would have been beneficial to have multiple narrators - definitely something that would have helped my reading experience, and improved it too. It will not stop me trying the next book as the previous reads have been great.
